Alysia R. Glenview, IL

I like giving my flute students a very well-rounded education. In terms of playing the flute, I strive to help my students improve their note-reading ability, their technical skill, their timing, and their musicality. Often in lessons, I teach students how to play scales, technical exercises, solo works (of various musical genres).

Also, for students that participate in ensembles such as band or orchestra, I am more than happy to help them with their ensemble music.

About Alysia

Having taught piano and flute lessons for over 12 years in the North Shore. I have had the pleasure of working with students of all ages (3 - adult), both beginner and advanced. I enjoy teaching students the "classical music" repertoire. I also strive to give my students a solid foundation in music theory and history in order for them to truly understand and appreciate the roots and structure of the music. In addition, I want my students to really love playing music and so I strongly encourage my students to also learn to play music outside of the classical repertoire. I believe balance is key, so I generally teach students to play classical music as well as music from other genres (such as film music, pop music, video game music, holiday music etc). *** Lesson Details *** Each ...

Loretta M. Chicago, IL

Flute lessons focus on posture, breath control, theory, and performance in all genres of music.

About Loretta

I have always been fascinated with how music is created and who works behind the scenes of performances and recordings. I started playing the flute in elementary school, piano in junior high school, and singing in high school. Once I got to UMASS, Dartmouth I chose the Music option for my major. I then moved on to NYU. I have been teaching for over ten years now. Working with students both in person and online has been amazing. With online lessons I am able to work with students who love the convenience of being at home and in person I can show students what it is like to really grow! I love my students of all ages, and can only hope to show others how amazing music can be. I have worked with a handful of students with special needs and am comfortable teaching in a non-traditional style.

My 11-year-old absolutely loves Miss Loretta. She's enthusiastic, patient, encouraging and makes learning music fun. My daughter looks forward to her weekly lesson and learning something new. If my daughter brings a piece she wants to learn, Loretta finds a way to fit it in. It's clear that Loretta loves teaching and is a natural at it. We feel lucky to have found her.

In my last lesson, Loretta helped me work through a major misconception about myself. I did not believe that my voice sounded good in falsetto - so I didn't practice it, lowered my expectations, and generally created a self-defeating barrier..

The transformation in learning to love what's coming out of my pipes is more than just voice-deep. Now I believe there are new lands I can conquer! Thank you for helping me to love my upper register Loretta!

After only a couple of lessons I can tell that Loretta is a well rounded teacher. As a flute instructor she is better than what I could have imaged.
Charis B. Woodstock, IL

About Charis

I have a B.S. in Music Education. I have worked with several disabled students patiently guiding them, finding creative ways to make music accessible to them. I believe it is not about me or the parent, but the student. I work with children of all ages believing that we can find a way that works so that in a few months you see results. Anyone can learn to sing or play but not everyone is going to enjoy it without the right approach and teacher. I don't want to hear a student say that the teacher didn't listen to me, they wouldn't entertain my ideas. In my studio I have two piano's and a keyboard. We have monitors and microphones and the ability to record. I encourage the composer to the pop music player, from the classical artist to the Broadway singer. Currently, I have ...

Daniel continues to devise new ways to make learning music theory fascinating, and the mechanics of playing the piano fun. His encouraging nature minimizes the frustration of being a beginning student.

excellent instructor and a wonderful person

I have been taking music lessons with Daniel since April of 2013 and it has been a great learning experience.

I had no musical background and I started learning Saxophone with Daniel and 7 months later, I am able to play popular songs that he chooses to fit best for enhancing learning curve. He does a great job with reinforcing correct habits from the very beginning and has been very encouraging and has highlighted improvement as we go from class to class. As music learning can be frustratingly slow, the feedback and reassurance he provides definitely helps in keep going back for more.

I wanted to learn guitar and piano with him as well, he encouraged to learn only Piano (for enhancing learning curve for musical theory concepts) and hold guitar for later. Which speaks about how he is genuinely concerned about your learning of music with sound reasoning. So now I take guitar and Piano lessons with him. He is very patient, polite and professional. He is great with students of all ages and easily modifies teaching style as per student needs.

Besides all that he is a great person to talk to. Numerous times we have had great discussions about things outside music.

I would highly recommend Daniel for music lessons to everyone.

My resume and references are available upon request. *** Lesson Details *** I emphasize solid tone and technique as a foundation for playing, but always encourage musicality and finding your own voice within a piece. You'll often find me asking you "how did you feel about that performance?" in lessons, so you can begin to identify and troubleshoot your own habits ...
