James is very patient and we learn a song or two a week. We even learned three full songs last week! He can help you find the songs you like and excels at providing the instruction you're looking for while keeping a relaxed atmosphere. He explains how to read notes well and we just click with him.

As a beginning saxophone player, the first lesson was just the basics (how to put the instrument together, hold it, and get the correct mouth and lip and finger placement. I was even able to get a few good notes out! Really looking forward to the next lesson. Will definitely purchase longer lesson time in the future, as half hour went by to quickly.

Donna S.

Arcadia, CA

Experienced sax and brass teacher of 27 years available for eager students of all experience levels and ages! I structure my lessons so students learn what they want to learn, while also building a strong foundation of technical skills. I specialize in Classical, rock, blues, and jazz. I can work with any method book that is used in schools, but I also like to supplement with the Jamey Aebersold books for improvisation and the Rubank and DeVille Universal Method for Saxophone.

About Donna

Hey, I'm Donna and I've been teaching trumpet, Brass instruments and saxophones since 1987. I am a certified teacher in NY, and have recently moved to Los Angeles to enjoy the weather and perform Rock, Jazz, Blues with many different bands.

I love starting students out on their instruments, and have had great success helping beginners and intermediate players do really well in school and at Solo festivals, All County and All State.

I have judged NYSSMA Festivals for over 15 years (and still fly back to do it!), and know how to help students play well under the pressure of an audition.

I have had students get accepted into Juilliard and Manhattan Pre-Colleges (Jazz), USDAN, many other music camps and colleges across the country.

I have performed at the Orpheum Theatre (LA), City National Grove (Anaheim), Wolf Den (Mohegan Sun, CT), World Cafe (Philadelphia), Paramount NY, Landmark Theatre, Dix Hills Performing Arts Centre, NYCB Theatre, Riverhead Blues Festival, Patchogue Theatre, Theatre Three and numerous restaurants and clubs in NY and Los Angeles metro areas.

From performing with many bands, I know how exciting it is to play songs. I want all my Beginner and Intermediate students to enjoy making music by ear and by reading. In addition to classical music, I also love teaching Jazz and improvisation to all my students, which makes them more independent and creative. I have also used many method books like Breeze Easy, Essential Elements 2000, Rubank, Jump Right In, Clarke, Arban and Universal Method for Saxophone.

I love helping students reach their potential!

I have many videos on YouTube to help young players, trumpet and saxes.

*** Studio Equipment ***
I predominantly use Selmer Mark VI saxophones (alto and tenor)

Bach Stradivarius Model 37 Trumpet
Cannonball Trumpet

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in helping students overcome embouchure problems.
I also have vast experience teaching students with braces. I have written articles on this topic on my site and others over the years.

Joseph S.

Fullerton, CA

I'm getting my degree in Saxophone Performance, and specialize in classical saxophone.

About Joseph

I grew up in music, and started playing the piano when I was 6 years old, and began composing and using Logic Pro two years after that. I have been playing saxophone for 8 years, and am currently working to gain my bachelors degree in music performance from California State University, Fullerton. During my saxophone instruction I also began learning clarinet as a supplementary instrument, and have been playing it for 3 years. What I love about music the most, is how deep it resonates with the human soul and how the music stems from the passion of the composer and the performer.

I feel that
my job as a teacher is to instill a sense of passion and love for music in my students, in addition to teaching them the instrument and the rudiments of music. I also am a strong believer that the best way to grow as a musician is to perform, to play with other musicians, and to listen to as much music as one can get their hands on. My teaching style emphasizes deliberate and consistent practice schedules and a very broad and visceral understanding of music as a whole.

Eric C.

Upland, CA

I figure out exactly where you in your technique and knowledge on the instrument, then I'll start teaching from there. I am fluent in classical, jazz, blues, r&b, as well as pop-rock.

About Eric

Hi! I'm Eric Croissant, a Saxophonist, Singer, Teacher, and Composer born and raised in Southern California. I've been playing the saxophone for over ten years now, singing for as long as I can remember, and have been living and breathing music since I was born. I play for various local gigs, and sometimes gigs in Los Angeles at venues such as the Baked Potato.

The three most rewarding experiences in my musical career, would be a successful performance, great feedback on a new composition, and watching the progress of my student's skill. I have taught students from elementary school all th
e way to those that are older than me. I keep my lessons fun, efficient, and applicable. While we all hate homework, I give students assignments to work on, so they don't forget what I teach, and so they can expand upon the concepts given in lessons, familiarizing them with the information. I look forward to helping you unlock your potential!
