I have been teaching band for over ten years in public and private schools, specializing in trumpet, saxophone and trombone, but able to teach beginning and intermediate clarinet, baritone/euphonium, and percussion as well.

I love what I do! Music is a gift and something we can all enjoy as long as we live! Strong instrumental playing begins with a solid understanding of the fundamentals of music and the simple act of making a sound from the instrument. Students learn to play music by ear first, and are later introduced to music notation. More advanced lessons emphasize sight-reading, expression, and improvisation.

An instrumentalist since age 10, Thomas has experience as a performer and teacher. His previous education has included methodology classes on teaching specific instruments, and he is available to teach beginning trumpet lessons.

About Thomas

The first lesson was successful. My particular background in piano is unique, and my needs are atypical as well. I thought Thomas assessed my abilities, lack of abilities, and goals well and quickly. He started me on a different perspective on looking at music (reading the staff) that seems very helpful. I'm encouraged.

A typical lesson will consist of lip flexibility exercises, studies, solo to be prepared for recital and a duet for fun! When possible, the student will work on a popular show tune, jazz or other "fun" piece.

Mr. A. has a talent for teaching that makes it a privilege to be one of his students. Our son has been thoroughly enjoying the time under his tutelage, and continues to do so via video while in-house is not an option. The trumpet lessons have included trumpet technique, musical notation and reading, ear training, trumpet hygiene, and instrument care.
Mr. A. is a respectful, punctual, and precise teacher who inspires students to reach their potential.

Hello and welcome to my online music studio!

I have been teaching elementary and intermediate brass professionally for over 6 years. I use a differentiated instruction method in my lessons which centers around tailoring instruction to meet individual student needs, interests, and goals. Instruction varies based on the type of learner, the age of the student, and whether or not they have prior experience.

In private lessons, I teach students about basic theory, ear-training, sight-reading, scales, proper breathing, embouchure development, and much more. I will help students prepare for school-related events such as District Band auditions, Solo and Ensemble Festival, and coach them as they advance through middle and high school band and/or orchestra.

A little about me: I began private French horn lessons at age 11 and continued lessons until age 17. I currently teach online and in-person music lessons in the DC/Northern Virginia area. I have played horn in ensembles such as the ...

I have 50 years of teaching experience. I believes in establishing a firm understanding of brass playing and musical literature of all styles and have the experience to do that. I emphasize the principles of great brass playing no matter what the musical style. I had several students who have gone onto Honors musical groups and as college trumpet majors.

About Michael

Mike is the most amazing trumpet teacher out there! I took lessons with him for 8 years, and he always encouraged me to keep playing! I played throughout college and am now looking for a community band, and I am so grateful to have had such an amazing teacher to encourage me to keep playing post high school. He is great for all levels, and teaches a wide range of musical styles for whatever you'd want to learn! I cannot recommend Mike enough. If you're looking for lessons, he is certainly the best out there!
David Bach
Mike is a very experienced and generous teacher. He has professional performing experience in all kinds of ensembles and styles from quintets to orchestras and from classical to jazz. He is an outstanding jazz musician and a good arranger and adapts pieces to make them playable for students of all ages and levels of ability. And Mike understands and values students of ALL abilities, including those with special needs. He taught music to students with disabilities in a New York school providing all kids a meaninful and challenging musical experience. I've done many gigs with Mike for many years and I have also been a student of his, although he would never say I was. We practice together weekly, regardless of where we are living, and I learn something every time we meet that helps me be a better player. Mike will make you a better player too!
Hayim
It takes a special kind of teacher to teach a beginning older adult trumpet. Was I fortunate to find Mike! I learned much more than how to play. Mike never missed an opportunity to share music that he thought I would like, a story or two about one of his favorite trumpet players, or a podcast on trumpet players. And lessons were always fun.

I have had the great pleasure of performing alongside him in a number of different situations. As a sideman we have performed music on an extremely high level, everything from Jazz Standards, originals, to Weather Report etc. Vinnie's abilities as trumpeter and educator are tremendous, world class all across the board.
