About Atalia M.

Close

You will learn all levels of music theory (the math of music) and find out how and why music is made. In my lessons you will learn anything from basic rhythms and music notation to key signatures and harmonic analysis.

About Atalia
Everyone has a beautiful voice. Let me teach you how to make it heard.

My passion for music is the most pervasive quality of my personality. Consequently, passing that passion on to others is what brings me the most joy in life. My goal is to spread the love and appreciation for this unique and transcending art form through guidance, performance, and instruction. As my student, you will receive exactly what you (or your child) want out of the lessons-you are the one controlling what you want from them (be it any style of music, professional track or just for fun, music theory, and performance) and I am there to provide it. Music is nothing short of extremely fun and completely liberating.

I have always loved to sing and play guitar and piano starting from a young age, and I never gave up my determination and passion for perfor
ming. In middle and high school I did many musicals (Jekyll and Hyde, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Oliver, Miss Saigon, Little Shop of Horrors, Footloose, Kiss Me Kate, and Cats) and sang in the choir (including the California All State Honor Choir and Jazz Choir). I played guitar in the school Jazz Band and participated in many jam sessions out of school. I also participated in many piano competitions, including ones for my own composition (I received an honorable mention for one of my own piano works). In college, I received a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Redlands. I have recently completed my Master of Music in Vocal Performance from the University of Redlands. I have performed many opera roles including Suor Angelica in Puccini's Suor Angelica, Violetta in Verdi's La Traviata, the Queen of the Night in Mozart's The Magic Flute, and Fiordiligi in Mozart's Cosi Fan Tutte, and Najade in Strauss' Ariadne auf Naxos. I was also in the University Chapel Singers Choir, Madrigals Choir, and Treblemakers a Capella Jazz choir. I currently reside in Germany where I am teaching online lessons to students all over the world, teaching English, and pursuing an opera career. So far I have sung the role of the Queen of the Night in Weimar, Germany and have done a few concerts singing Christine from the Phantom of the Opera.

"Hard work beats talent if talent does not work hard." This is my favorite quote. I truly believe that hard work will take you anywhere, no matter where your starting point is. With hard work and determination, you can be anything you want to be. With motivation, anyone can be a beautiful singer, guitarist, and pianist. If I did not believe this with all my heart, I would not be where I am today. To me, every student has great potential. It is my job and joy to bring out that potential and cultivate it into talent, love, and passion.

LESSON DETAILS

My lessons are fun and rewarding. I do not believe that a critical environment is one that is healthy or pleasant to learn in. Therefore, I am a very encouraging, patient, and supportive teacher, and I will praise you for your improvements, as well as help you correct your difficulties. I like to think of my lessons as a team effort, with more emphasis on working together and having fun. With that being said, I believe that you get what you put in out of our lessons. The more you practice and the more you show me determination and motivation, the more we can have fun, improve technique, and really make music in our lessons.

I customize each lesson to my student, so you tell me what you want to sing or play and what your goals as a musician are, and I will instruct you (or your child) in the exact way that fits your goals and interests. After a couple months with me, you will have a new found passion for music, knowledge of proper technique, reading and diction, and the skills to perform and communicate pieces of music. Most importantly, you will have the time of your life!

My voice lessons consist of vocal warm-ups where you learn proper technique and posture, breathing exercises to expand your diaphragm and support when you sing, and Repertoire work where you apply the technique you learned, practice performance skills, and learn diction of English, Italian, German, Hebrew, or French.

My guitar and piano lessons start with learning how to read music (if you do not know already) and being familiar with the keys or frets and the notes on the staff. Then we work on pieces of music, paying attention to the key factors of musicianship including rhythm, interpretation, dynamics, composition, musicality, and performance practice. My music theory lessons are based on whatever the student wants to learn or needs instruction on. I teach anywhere from basic music notation to advanced harmonic and formal analysis.

My speaking and lessons are similar to my voice lessons, minus the singing aspect-the same technique we use for singing is the technique we must use for speaking if we want to be heard, be healthy, and not get tired or worse - lose our voice. We work on breathing and projection techniques and then practice on a reading sample or presentation.

My acting lessons consist of different improv-acting games, projection techniques, and monologue and role studies. You will learn how to communicate a message to the audience clearly and effectively while having a wonderful time!

My language and tutoring classes are focused on fluency-getting comfortable speaking in the target language. We go through chapters of a lesson plan I created myself-learning vocabulary and grammar by learning the functions of them and completing speaking goals. After just a few lessons, you will find that you will be able to converse in your target language. Your individual pace is the most important to me, so we learn at the speed that you are the most comfortable with.

All I expect from you is to bring a pencil, a good attitude, and the willingness to practice and work hard in our lessons, and I will supply the rest! Looking forward to hearing your beautiful music or voice!

Improve your musical knowledge whether you are completely new to reading music, or experienced and looking to hone your skills.

About Erin
I have a Master's in Vocal Performance from Portland State University, and over a decade of vocal training and performance experience.

I teach voice lessons to kids, teenagers, and adults, ranging in ability from beginner to experienced. I have helped the beginning students learn to match pitch and read notes on the staff. My voice students learn to sing with purer vowels, increased breath support, and to access greater vocal range.

I teach beginning piano to all ages. I teach students as young as 5 as long as they are able to stay focused for the duration of a half hour lesson. Most of my piano students are in the 7 -10 range, but I teach some beginning adults as well.

I travel to some students in N and NE Portland, but I vastly prefer to have students come to me. For students in Vancouver, WA, I do ask that they come to me.

*** Lesson Details ***
Voice students will learn to improve their technique through proper breathing, correct vowels, space, and resonance. I teach repertoire based on the students' interest, but I am well versed in classical and operatic repertoire in English, French, German, and Italian, as well as some musical theatre and jazz. I also teach pop songs for those who are interested. I can help you improve your technique for whatever style of music you want to sing. For adults, I recommend an hour voice lesson. For kids, I recommend a half hour voice lesson, and half hour of piano if they are not already taking it.

Piano students will learn to read music, play with correct form, learn scales, and improve their musicianship skills. I teach out of lesson books (mostly Faber) to improve technique, but I want students to learn supplemental pieces that are fun for them as well. For piano beginners, I recommend 30 minutes. Once the student is a little more experienced, I like to have them for 45 minutes.

I hope to share with you the same joy I get from making music!

*** Studio Equipment ***
My studio at home has a piano, my music library, a large mirror for aiding the student in observing their vocal habits.

*** Travel Equipment ***
For in home lessons, students will need to have a keyboard or a piano in a space free of distractions. Students should have a neat, three ring binder to hold any loose sheet music. Piano students need a regular notebook to write lesson assignments.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in teaching classical art songs and musical theatre.

Anastasiya N. currently lives in Minneapolis where she just completed her first year of Doctorate Degree in Clarinet Performance at the University of Minnesota. Prior to that, Anastasiya N. studied at Grand Valley State University, MI on a full scholarship while pursuing her Bachelor Degree and received her Masters from the U of Minnesota. From early age and on she was exposed to music from her dad and that early environment helped her to form as an individual, a musician and clarinetist.

About Matthew
Hi, I am Matt. I am a band director in the Fort Smith, AR area. I am in my 7th year teaching band and love every minute of it. I have recently decided to return to teaching private lessons, and would love to help you with your auditions, festival music, AP music theory exams, or just learn some skills on becoming a better musician. Outside of the audition music, we continually work tone production, range, and confidence on any wind instrument. In college I had a small guitar studio as well. Some of those guitar students have gone on to study at the collegiate level and gig around town today! I have taught beginning band for 4 years now on all wind instruments including percussion. I have a firm grasp to provide solid fundamentals to start your musical journey and get you off to a great start. Feel free to ask me any questions about lesson
s.

June 2012 - June 2015 I was the head band director of Waldron High School in Waldron, AR. We won several awards through our marching and concert band program. I also ran after school lessons in which many students made our region honor band.

June 2015 - Present
I am currently the head director at Trinity Junior High in Fort Smith. I run a 7-9 band program that includes both marching and concert band seasons. Our student involvement is quite high as our band program serves about 50% of our total student population (about 90 kids served daily on all wind instruments). My band here has received many superior ratings, and many students make our region honor group, and go on to excel in high school band programs in our area.

I have had a very solid foundation in Music Theory. If you would like to better your understanding of the function of music, or if you are enrolled in a Music Theory course and need tutoring, I would be happy to help.

About Lyle
I am a professional singer, pianist, and teacher of the two. I have a Bachelor of Music degree from California State University Long Beach, and a Master of Music degree from University of California Los Angeles. During my study of those two degrees, I had marvelous teaching from some of the finest pianists, coaches, and voice teachers around. I can teach you how to sing with true passion, ease, and intent.

I began my study of the piano at the age of 7, my mother being my first teacher. I started on Alfred Piano Books, and still strongly believe in that same curriculum. From there I began to study classical composers like Chopin, Beethoven, Clementi, and Mozart. Although my love of classical music runs deep to my core, I love jazz, pop, and gospel music. I am happy to assist the learning of any style, anything that YOU are passionate for
. :)

With me, you can expect to make weekly progress in your instrument of choice. I am a dedicated performer and an even more dedicated teacher. To me, the two go hand in hand.

Please allow me the opportunity in teaching you and in turn I will give you all the knowledge I possess.

Lyle has a singing voice that will stun and amaze you when he sings in front of you. That will immediately put you at ease and motivate you to sing better using his techniques. His classical training has proven to be a great foundation for teaching me effective ways to understand, use and improve my voice. After 2 lessons I can already see a big difference in my singing abilities and I always learn many new things at each lesson. Lyle has a really open, friendly and non judgemental demeanor and this helped a lot with my nervousness. I have had many piano teachers before I came to Joseph. Since then, in his private lessons we've covered scales, learned classical pieces, choir songs, accompaniment for hymns and how to play by ear.
I love how much he cares for each of his students and wants each lesson to be valuable. The passion for teaching is seen in him, and as a current student of his, I could say that he has built plethora of skills in me, so that I can use that knowledge to serve God, persevere, and carry on that education to the generation after me.
He has a lot of experience teaching piano and a big background in music. It's a blessing to be a student of a talented teacher, composer, and conductor, who is also highly respected, inspirational and caring.

I have been taking theory/harmony lessons with Mr. Joseph Nikita for 4 years now and couldn't be any more satisfied with his teaching style.
Mr. Nikita takes the complex concepts of music harmony and breaks them down to the point where they become easy to understand, retain, and apply to my homework and compositions.
One thing I much admire in Mr. Nikita's teaching is the variability in his explanations. I don't prefer learning in a lecture-style environment (where the teacher lectures and the student takes notes), so Mr. Nikita takes each topic and explains it in multiple ways - using real-life applications and examples. This helps me obtain a clear understanding of each lesson - making it easy to go in depth in music harmony.

He is a very talented and kind teacher and a perfect conductor.

Come learn how to read notes, rhythms, sight-reading and more! Reading music doesn't have to be a headache - in fact, it can be fun!

About Guthrie
Hi everyone, I'm Guthrie! I love music more than anything else; playing, teaching, composing are all my life passions. My styles vary from Irish flute to classical, and sometimes bagpipes on the side!

I'm from the Washington state, but currently studying music in Montréal, Québec. I've also lived and played music in Germany and Norway, both of which have shaped my personal taste in music. And as a teacher, I like to let the student tell me how they like to learn, what kind of music they want to learn to play, and then I can accommodate that. I promise you will learn a lot from me, (and me from you!) and have quite a bit of fun on the side!

Whether you are just starting out, studying for the AP Music Theory exam, or in need of tutoring for your college Harmony courses, I can help you tackle the specific areas of music theory that you are struggling with, and improve your overall musicianship.

About Brittney
I am a music educator and professional performer in the NYC metro area. I hold a B.A. in music education with a concentration in woodwind performance.

I have taught students from ages 3 to 65, and I have the enthusiasm and resources to help you meet your specific musical goals. Whether your goal is college audition preparation or simply to build confidence and self-expression, I will work with you to develop a plan that fits your budget, schedule, and personal goals. My students have auditioned for and performed in regional honors ensembles, regional piano festivals, and community performances.

I teach piano, saxophone, clarinet, and flute to students of all different ages and experience levels, as well as ear training and music theory. I have been playing the saxophone for 13 years, and regularly perform in both classical and contempor
ary styles. I can teach students to read music and pursue classical excellence, to learn how to play contemporary music using chord sheets, or both depending on the goals and preference of the student.

I have premiered works by contemporary composers such as Paul Gaita and Patrick Burns, given several solo recitals, and studied with NYC multiple woodwind artists Todd Groves, Dr. Joseph d'Auguste, and Vito Chiavuzzo.

My personal passion is bringing music to the lives of as many students as possible, regardless of their level or specific interests. Please reach out with any questions, and I hope to meet you soon!

Music is creative, lively, and an expression of yourself. There's no reason why learning the theory behind music should be any different. I offer you all the tools and tips to read music like a pro, teach you all the rules of music, and most importantly, teach you all the many ways to break them.

Let's learn, explore, and create together.

About Alex
My name is Alex Domini and I am a fourth generation musician who offers private and semi-private lessons in music literacy, music theory, sight reading, and clarinet. I started my formal training at the age of nine and by high school I was accepted and studying at the prestigious Manhattan School of Music: Precollege Division, double majoring in Classical Voice and Clarinet. In college, I got a Bachelor of Fine Arts from The Hartt School of Music, which boasts one of the best Music Education programs in the country. Since graduating, I have worked with multiple composers as a singer to develop music because of my sure-fire techniques to make reading music as simple as reading a book.

In my classes, students will be grounded and centered by the Kodaly method of music pedagogy, while being encouraged to create and express themselves thro
ugh their new understanding of music. In one hour of class, students will enforce ideas taught last class, learn why the rules of music exist, and through curious exploration, learn how to break them.

I am an enthusiastic music lover who believes that an education in music transcends academic success. It inspires empathy, creativity, and new pathways to seeing the world around us. Let's inspire the next generation of creators and innovators with what makes us the most human: music.
