I've been teaching cello for 30 years and my students have gone on to play with different ensembles like symphony orchestras. Within the first few lessons, you'll be able to play simple songs by reading and by ear and as time goes on you'll be able to play more complex repertoire. I specialize in classical, style but I can teach you different kinds of styles, typically use Kummer method and Suzuki repertoire but I use a variety of method and books. I have the following tools available for your lessons: cello, computer program, sound system, Tuner and Metronome . I love working with students of all ages and experience levels and I can't wait to meet you!

About Maria

With more than 30 years of teaching experience for the cello, I have taught students of all ages, throughout California and overseas. I earned a Bachelor's degree and a Master's degree in Cello Performance and am currently the Principal cellist for the Camellia Symphony, California. In addition, I

I took lessons from Maria for 6 years, starting the summer just before I entered high school. Initially I was embarrassed because I knew most kids learning an instrument had started years before me, and I hadn't had any experience with reading sheet music or anything like that.

But she never held any preconceived notions about where my ability *should* be, which helped me feel comfortable learning the cello for fun, which was why I was taking lessons. And Maria was always patient working with me on whatever little part of a piece I struggled with week after week until I got it. She let me self direct how I wanted to learn, so I didn't spend as much time memorizing music theory and was able to learn through playing, which worked well for me.

While taking lessons through high school and part of college, I had a lot of difficult classes and sometimes had to sacrifice my short-term cello progress to make time for them. I always felt bad when this happened, but Maria understood and once the air cleared I was always excited to catch up to where I wanted to be.

Cello was always something kind of meditative where I could make something beautiful by putting in time, and I don't think I would enjoy playing now if I hadn't had the warm guidance of such a great teacher on my journey through the music world.

1 hour lesson with music theory, performance tips, and of course playing music!
I have been teaching for 6 years. In 2013 I received my Bachelors Degree in music from Bluefield College. I have played for the Rappahannock Youth Symphony and the Bluefield College Orchestra and I have in duets and trios with members of the Roanoke Symphony. I enjoy playing music, because music echoes the soul. Everyone may speak a different language, but all musicians speak the same language of notes and rhythm.

About Dawnn

I absolutely love teaching music. I have experience teaching children as young as 6 and adults age 70. I have 19 years of experience playing music. The instruments I have experience playing are violin, viola and cello. I have been teaching for 10 years. I am Assistant Conductor of the Crossroads Y

We have been with Dawnn for a couple of years now. Originally, the purpose of us hiring her as a violin teacher was to get my son into the string orchestra. Promise fulfilled and my son got into the orchestra. Besides, we really appreciate Dawnn for her commitment, punctuality, and proficiency. Her skill and expertise are producing wonderful fruits in my son's musical accomplishments . Thank you so much!

I am a second year cello performance major at the University of Georgia and have been playing the cello for over ten years. I have experience performing and practicing in a variety of ensembles and genres (i.e. orchestras, chamber ensembles, jazz, rock/jam bands, bluegrass, pop). I plan to incorporate music theory and ear training into lessons to help my students become more familiar with their instruments and repertoire. I want to encourage innovation and creativity in each of my students so that they can feel comfortable approaching any musical opportunity.

About Jordi

I am a third year cello performance major and jazz minor (bass guitar) at the University of Georgia. I have been playing classical cello for over eleven years and bass for two. I am prepared to teach students of any age and give them the tools and adaptability to perform in a variety of ensembles,

I'll get right to the point. Paul's personality made it extremely easy for me not only to be comfortable but to feel really appreciated. I was fearful that Paul may feel like, "oh great another person who THINKS he has something but can't sing a lick!" I experienced the exact opposite. Within 15 minutes he located what has been my most frustrating issue. I felt like I was already ahead of the game and we hadn't even started yet! Paul has the rare balance of a sense of humor and still following an agenda to meet my goal. Thanks to Paul I really feel like I can, and WILL reach all my goals. AND enjoy the journey to them!! Can't wait for the next lesson!

"As an adult learner, I was intimidated by the prospect of learning the cello because it’s such a demanding instrument, but Arlette has put these apprehensions at ease. She is wonderfully experienced which gives the student a very solid foundation; essential to playing the cello well. Highly recommend her as an instructor for any aspiring cellist."

"Excellent, excellent teacher

I've been taking cello lessons from Bijan for about 2 years now, and his instruction has caused me take a greater appreciation for music on the whole. Cello is my first instrument and I was worried that, as an adult player just starting out, I'd have to hunt around for an effective teacher. I was very, very lucky in getting Bijan as my teacher. His credentials are unmatched and his talent across multiple musical styles is amazing. Any question you have, from instrument choice to deep music theory, he has an answer for. He has also been incredibly patient with me, even when I seemed frustrated and ready to give up. I probably would have if it had not been for his encouragement and help. Bijan would absolutely be my first choice for anyone in the San Diego area wanting to learn music."

"The most attentive and knowledgeable music teacher I have ever had. Very aware of student improvements and yet able to make suggestions where they are needed, without any kind of harsh criticism.

John provides all the information - both theory and performance in a very laid back way which leaves the student feeling stress free. He is very realistic as to the expectations of what the student's abilities are now and when "tentatively" they can expect to achieve a level of playing.

He does his job. It is up to me to do mine! Having fun and learning in a very short time. Not easy - but practice, practice, practice."

Is Cello Hard to Learn? Read THIS Before Taking Lessons

Many beginning musicians wonder, “Is cello hard to learn?” The process of learning the cello is not difficult, but it’s important to keep in mind that the cello is not an instrument of instant gratification. It does require focused, daily practice time and a good teacher to guide you along the way. How far you progress with cello is a direct result of the amount of quality time you put into practicing the instrument. Even someone who puts in just 30 minutes a day will notice a signi …
