Welcome! My name is Toshi M. I was born in Hiroshima City and raised in Tokyo, Japan.

I am currently working with a new project through Google called, "Ok Glass." It's a data collection project that leads to the betterment of Google products for voice search capabilities in their Google search engine, Chrome software and Google Glass. Google has chosen me to record, translate and transcribe for these projects within the Japanese division!

***Please read my entire page including the Cancellation, reschedule and late Policy carefully before purc
hasing lessons!!***

My tutoring policy is not just simply to teach the Japanese language as a Japanese. No, I always want to teach students more than the language.

If you are interested in the Japanese traditions as well as the language and traditions, then that is a good start for learning. Fun, interest and enjoyment are the best tools for learning with my tutoring.

You will not only be able to speak Japanese, but you will grasp the traits of the Japanese language, traditions, history, culture, and, most importantly, the uniquely Japanese styles of courtesy and customs simultaneously!

I teach practical Japanese so you can actually communicate and exchange proper responses with real Japanese with a sense of smooth conversation. My teaching method varies depending on the student's level.

Are you struggling?

Perhaps you went to a Japanese language school, but when you saw Japanese anime or movies you still did not understand? Then you wondered WHY, didn'™t you! After all, you paid so much money for school!

Here is the answer: most of the school are not teaching true and complete Japanese! Yes, they are teaching proper Japanese very well. but it only works for some test like a JLPT or speaking at work.

The SECRET is that Japanese people do not speak proper Japanese all the time. They usually speak casual, informal Japanese when they are talking with friends and family, and there are gender differences in spoken Japanese!

Japanese movies and anime cartoons, manga, are mostly stories of friends and family, NOT stories of formal work.

That is why you need to know proper Japanese and casual, informal Japanese both! The Japanese culture and language have customs and orders which you must know and understand completely!

I teach both of these structures at the same time. You need to know when and how to change from proper verbs to casual, informal verbs, and then you will begin to understand the Japanese anime and movies!

I am very strong in teaching proper Japanese, including reading and writing Hiragana, Katakana, and Kanji. If you are only interested in JLPT Training (any level) or AP Japanese Language and Culture, we can certainly work with that.

However, I also teach business Japanese, word beautification, gender differences in spoken Japanese, proper and casual conversations, polite language, humble language, and respectful verbs. This is necessary for improving your personal and business relations!

I also teach Japanese slang along with many other aspects of the Japanese culture. Whatever you need or want to learn, I am here to assist you!

Whether you are a beginner or an advanced student, I can tutor you in private lessons at your computer. I am experienced with teaching all levels and all ages!

I give a fun, relaxed lesson and work to teach the precise and gentle true Japanese way in a friendly and open-minded one-on-one session or group lessons via Skype.

I believe you will find everything you need, because I am focused on providing high-quality service and customer satisfaction. I will do everything I can to meet your expectations, and with a variety of offerings to choose from, I am sure you will be happy working with me!

I also teach ORIGAMI (Japanese art of paper folding), Japanese Calligraphy, how to make SUSHI, and how to hold the Japanese Traditional Tea Ceremony, How to make healthy Japanese foods. I am able to give you information about J-POP and traditional Japanese songs as well. We can have fun with those, too.

If you would like to have a lesson once per week or twice per week, let's discuss the possibilities!

I do not usually set up a specific 10-hour or 20-hour plan, because it all depends on the student's level.

I then find the best speed for each student. At that point, if you want to stop at 10 hours, that is fine, and you can stop! Or, if you want to continue to do the class, you can continue. You may stop at 8, 15 or 30 sessions... whatever is best for you!

Do you want to speak Japanese for a few conversations... or do you want to speak Japanese fluently? Or perhaps you want to take a Japanese Language Proficiency Test or AP Japanese Language and Culture Test? That all depends on your achievement!

You can let me know if you want to continue or not anytime! Let's go from there!

If you have any questions about my tutoring, please feel free to contact me through TakeLessons.com.

Hope to see you soon, I look forward to lesson with you! :)

ARIGATOU :)

Have an awesome day and God Bless!

Toshi

***Cancellation, reschedule and late, others policy***
Class cancellations and rescheduling must be done 24 hours in advance before the scheduled lesson. If you do not reach me within the 24 hour period, you will be charged for the lesson. (You must contact me 24 hours in advance or else you will be charged for the lesson. It does not matter what the reason the is, you will be charged.)

If you cannot make your assigned lesson time for more than two weeks consecutively (for vacation, camp, or for any other reason) I will have to give your lesson time to another student. I work with many students and have a busy teaching schedule, which means that I cannot afford to hold a time slot with a student that cannot consistently show up for their lesson. If you would to start lessons again, I ask that you please chose your preferred day and time from my availability, and then let me know when you want to start again. I will then put you in my schedule.

If you are going to be late for your lesson, please contact me by text or Skype message before your scheduled class. If you are late 5 minutes or more to class (without prior notice), your lesson will be cancelled, and you will be charged for the missed lesson. No refunds given and you might be terminated from my calendar. Please note: if you signed up for lessons with me, you have agreed to my cancellation, reschedule, and late policy. I had my first lesson with Toshi recently and thoroughly enjoyed it. He has his plate full with me, I must say. I not only want speaking and listening practice, but also help with grammar and vocab in order to meet my goal of passing the N1 level of the JLPT in December. I'm confident I'll get there with his help. We had a very interesting conversation and I am looking forward to studying with him more.

Toshi is a great Japanese teacher to our son. He is Japanese who has learned fluent English, so he understands the difficulties that students face trying to learn the language and explains these concepts clearly. We are lucky to have Toshi to help our son improve his understanding and ability to speak Japanese in his high school class.

I can't wait to work with you! I am passionate about the subjects I teach, and find nothing can compare to seeing a student "get it", so they may too enjoy the passion that comes from learning and doing something they love.

Everything I teach I've learned most completely by doing as a Professional, and find great reward in sharing my experience and knowledge with my students.

When the "aha" light goes on, it's truly a wonderful moment for me, and encourages me to drive my students to build towards more of those moments as students, and then ultimately, for themselves as they learn to grow for themselves.

Richard is so patient and knowledgeable. I am very happy with our lessons. Because of my background with classical guitar he wondered if the fact that he doesn't read music and I am renewing my mind back into it would not be a good teaching set-up. Not at all. I now have an electric guitar and the five years spent playing classical, now fifteen years ago, did not give me a good foundation for understanding music theory unfortunately. I have a genre I had already picked out fingerstyle electric and now with some thinking my way through the basics I did have I still need to learn just basic strumming etc. I understand what he is referring to in music so we still speak in the same key. Also and lastly my daughter has a severe seizure/dementia disorder that is very unpredictable and our caregiver's mom just passed away so there will be times when I just can't do a week/day. He has been very understanding. I am smiling from my soul because music is my healing path for difficult stuff I couldn't pay any doctor/therapist to even call me back for. Thank you so much for your assistance. Sincerely Teresa

I have been teaching and painting for a long, loooong time- since 1983, actually! I am also a professional mural artist and painter, and found that my painting improved many years after art school. I was frustrated back then and painting seemed so complicated! Is that you? I figured out, with my own research, the freedom and fun in painting. Your painting will improve week to week as we work together to apply nice color combinations, explore values, shapes, edges and so on. Are you interested in portraits, still lifes, landscapes, animals? Let's start with smaller painting sketches to learn the basics of color, shape and design. Then we will take it from there. You can and will succeed in producing paintings you desire!

Discussions and references to art history, an important part of the class.

But the art craft is paramount.
I teach different painting media including oil, acrylic, watercolor.
As well a drawing media - crayon, charcoal, pastel, etc.
Beginners and advanced students are welcome.
I also prepare students who dream about Art School and professional career.
I have two approaches.
With my advice, students choose media, style, subjects and work under professional guidance.

For the first lesson, I provide everything is needed and we discuss what materials we'll need later.
For the following lessons, students buy their own materials.
At first visit, students should bring samples of their work and (or) photographs of their work if any.

I am so fortunate to have Boris as my art class teacher! Starting from December 2018, by now I have attended about 20 x 2+ hours of private lessons held in his studio and love going there on weekends. Within few sessions I learned that Boris has excellent educational background and proven life-long miscellaneous art experiences backed up with striking masterpieces - his own art creations.

Boris undoubtedly is a marvelous teacher and educator for those students who want to go beyond mechanistic approaches to the drawing and painting, willing expand their ways to ‘perceive’ the visual art. Boris has unique talent to deliver information and instructions in a concise and clear manner aided with his unlimited patience and politeness. Self-trained hobbyist in watercolor, I never took formal classes before; being engineer by trade, was a bit uncertain if we can get along smoothly due to big gaps on my side. That doubt disappeared after just couple of our meetings. Boris has adapted to my needs well above my expectations by giving just right amount of elements of classical academic disciplines - which I personally was looking for - such as perspective, composition, light and color, forms, constructional drawing.

My initial interest was to work in acrylic for landscape painting from photographs on a medium sized canvas. Boris’ suggestion to start with still life painting (completed as the very first project) was a saver for the ongoing mountain depiction project, relatively complex. I am gladly satisfied with his guidance, solution proposals, and corrections – I like the friendly atmosphere in his studio and "behind-the-scene" explanations why he thinks this or that could be made more professional. My painting perception is also growing because of art history studies I do at home following talks and lectures Boris gives during our classes; I like to review and study illustrations in books and online materials that he recommends – now I know much more about famous artists and major directions in visual art and art advances throughout the centuries.

Standing shoulder-to-shoulder to advanced, really experienced artist, is a stirring feeling and thanks to Boris’ soft skills, I can tell I am respected and taken care of. During 2019 spring break I brought my 15yo son for 4 master class sessions at Boris studio, and they have finished a pretty looking painting on 18x24 inch canvas in acrylic on an extraterrestrial planet theme; which has significantly promoted my son’s interests both in art and astronomy. My son enjoyed talking to teacher, our time was worthy spent on ‘painting bootcamp’.

Boris gives memorable, highly narrative hands-on sessions on color blocking, shading, underpainting, color mixing, value and tone balance solutions, one-line drawing, composition, and many more. I feel I am back to a good school where I do acquire my new painting skills at a rate I can control.

I strongly recommend Boris to both kids and adults.

I am taking Boris’s classes for more than 4 years and am more than happy with my progress. Boris is an amazing teacher and a very talented artist with lots of experience and knowledge of art history. He helped me work on my creativity, master different techniques, explore various mediums and challenge myself. I took group and individual classes and both formats worked fine. I am always looking forward to my art classes with Boris as I learn something new and they are never boring.

As a photographer, I like to think that I’m efficient at finding the holy grail of documentary photography, the “decisive moment” – every single time. I’ve been perfecting my photojournalistic style for decades and reached the point where the skill of “blending in”, becoming ubiquitous yet invisible morphed into a habit. My working style gravitates towards documenting the natural flow of your event.

But there’s a flip side: every once in a while, merely capturing what’s in front of me just doesn’t cut it. Sometimes I have to shatter the ambience and create a peculiar mix of light and shadows, divergent colors, delivering a brand new reality. I do all this at the set, not in Photoshop – so we’re creating a reality, not faking it.

Is it possible to learn this power? Of course, that's why I'm here!
