About John

I have been teaching young people and adults how to play musical instruments for over 20 years. A lot of my students are well on their way to a rewarding future with music, some as professionals and others as hobbyists. In addition to being a teacher, I am also a professional performer who has worked in a wide variety of styles and I have a Masters degree in music composition and theory.

One of my main specialties is working with very young students and total beginners. There is a special skill to teaching young children that can only be developed through experience. For the older student, or the student who already has a musical background my specialty is helping you learn the styles that have always been of most interest to you. I can also help older students gain a broad understanding of music through some basic music theory.

**

* Lesson Details ***
I can teach piano or keyboard to beginners and up to advanced students. On guitar and woodwinds I can teach beginners and up to intermediate level students.
My teaching style is fairly relaxed and very positive, but I will try to keep the lessons on a course that is going to benefit you the most.

For younger piano students and beginners I prefer the Alfreds piano system. The songs in the Alfreds books allow for immediate playing and note reading without any tedious memorization. The beginner books contain a lot of fun songs that kids really gravitate toward. For older students I try to gear the lessons toward whatever musical style you prefer. For students who have only had traditional piano lessons I can teach you how to read pop and jazz chord charts, as well as how to turn those chord charts into fully arranged music. I can also teach improvisation and the skills that are required to play specific styles of music in a professional band.

For my younger guitar students I have a variety of beginner material I have collected over the years, but for my older students I prefer to work on songs of their choice.
My beginner woodwind students will work with a Yamaha method book, while older students can learn improvisation and theory if they like.

I also can lead Orff styled tuned percussion ensembles. The Orff style of music performance allows for students from entirely mis-matched musical backgrounds to play music together, even on their first day of class.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Professional digital piano, many other keyboards, guitar, bass guitar, saxophone, flute, and four Orff tuned percussion instruments. I also have a comfortable seating area for parents, guests or observers.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I can provide multiple keyboards, a guitar, saxophone, flute and 4 Orff style tuned percussion instruments, as well as countless books and literature.

*** Specialties ***
I play keyboards professionally in jazz, RnB, rock, reggae, Latin rock and other styles. I can help the student who has only had traditional lessons branch out and learn how to read chord charts, which in turn teaches them theory.
I am a certified Orff teacher as well.

About Kevin

I have had a fairly diverse musical background, including playing with bands and orchestras, as well as participating in choral groups and opera. I have a master's degree in music performance for wind conducting, and a bachelor's degree in music with an emphasis on piano performance.

I have taught private lessons for several years now and I love every moment with my students! I have a real passion for sharing my knowledge and experience with others, both failures and successes. I believe everyone has creative potential, and I believe music is a real universal art form that anyone can tap into if they want. Above all, making and creating music should also be fun!

*** Lesson Details ***
I try to keep my lessons professional but comfortable too. I don't yell at students for messing up or anything like that. I usually have an agenda b

ut am willing to adjust and compromise if the situation dictates. If you don't have a curriculum in mind, I like Alfred's piano courses, but will do my best to find one that fits you as a student best. My initial goals are to make sure the basics of reading music and performing are set so that no matter what musical avenue you want to pursue, you will be successful. I do specialize in classical music but enjoy creating and playing in other genres as well.

I now also offer lessons online, as well as tutoring in most math areas!

***CANCELLATION POLICY***
I kindly ask for 24 hour notice whenever possible if a lesson is going to be missed. Generally speaking, if I don't hear from a student and their lesson time passes I will mark the lesson as missed, but I am also usually more than willing to make up the lesson at a later time.

*** Studio Equipment ***
I have a piano keyboard at my home.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I would expect students to have their own instruments as needed, as well as music paper, pencils, etc. I may be able to provide some of those materials on occasion as well as some books/recordings, but will by and large expect students to purchase those for themselves.

*** Specialties ***
I am much more familiar with classical styles and Broadway. My music writing style tends to be somewhere between neo-classical and avant-garde.

I just finished a series of online upright bass lessons with Dr. Norman. It's wonderful to have a lesson without toting the bass around town. Dr. Norman is impressive in skill and knowledge. There was nothing musically he didn't know, couldn't explain, or demonstrate on the bass. He has a keyboard at hand to play chords or emphasize a particular key, and he is proficient on that too. Dr. Norman is A++.

Cant say enough good things about Joel. He doesnt get frustrated when I don't grasp a concept he breaks it down to where I can understand and work through it. Works to play what I'm interested and what I really want to play. I thought going to learn an instrument at 27 would be rough but it has been fun and enjoyable.

Joel is an amazing instructor. I have had music instructors that get frustrated and roll their eyes or scoff. Not once have I gotten that from Joel. He breaks it down to where it is completely understandable and willing to work at your speed. I especially like that he isn't hung up on boring songs he pushes for what the student is interested in. Makes learning so much more fun. I thought trying to learn an instrument at 27 would make me feel dumb but Joel doesnt create that kind of environment. Only good vibes. Cant say enough good things about Joel.

He is especially gifted in putting students at ease and guiding them in pursuing their individual music styles. After only a short number of lesson with Joel, our shy girl is playing and singing her favorite popular songs !!

Very patient and informative. Allowed me to ask endless questions. Addressed all my concerns and removed any doubt about this arrangement working specifically for me and my schedule. His studio has a very nice setup and it's simplified. We did a breakdown of my experience and focused on setting realistic goals towards my learning process. More than a "Teacher" of music but a "Professor" of guitar methods! He focused in on getting me comfortable with the most basic of finger techniques, finger placement and familiarized with the sections of the solo lead guitar. After an hour's session my mind was put at ease about my ability to be patient with myself. I was never made to feel awkward or out of my league. This caused me to open up and to really focus. Mr.Cole has a great style and passion towards helping me to soak in as much content as possible. His location is within a community that's family orientated. I look forward to being tutored by Mr.Cole over the course of the next year without any complications.

About Kanada

Dr Kanada Narahari (Kanada Raghava) was born in Manchikeri, a small village in western ghats, Karnataka, India to his illustrious parents, Vidvan Narahari Keshava Bhat and Sumangala Bhat. His father Vidvan Narahari Keshava Bhat is a renowned Sanskrit scholar, poet and author of many works in Sanskrit on theatre plays and Yakshagaana, a form of traditional performing art.
Therefore it is not surprising that, young Kanada Narahari would have been exposed to Indian performing arts, music and literature at very tender age. When he was just nine years old, he enrolled to study Carnatic classical vocal with Vidushi Shreedevi Aravind. After spending some years under Vidushiji, he began to develop an interest in Hindustani Classical music and was particularly attracted to the Sitar.
This then began a new journey. At the exciting age of 22, he

initially spent a year under Subrahmanya Hegade, he found solace at the feet of his mentor and teacher, Pundit Sanjeev Korthi.

Roberta
"Undoubtedly the Fur Elise of piano teachers! This is the second teacher for my little one and just after the first lesson, the difference in Lana’s style
of teaching when compared to the previous teacher was quite apparent. The professionalism and the ability Lana consistently exhibits to conjure the personal motivation out of my little one to excel in piano is simply amazing. We have been taking lessons from her for over a year now and my daughter has made strides in reading sheet music, playing steadily, and being more comfortable playing in front of others. When friends and relatives come over they have noticed a difference in her play and have asked what we have done differently. The first time someone asked, my daughter replied “Lana” and I couldn’t help but laugh a little as I was not expecting her to even respond. Lana is an exceptional piano teacher whose love for music is infectious and I would highly recommend!"

If you want talent and an amazing experience for your child, you will want to take lessons with Denise!

"Cant speak highly enough about Adam. I felt he went above and beyond for a guitar teacher. He challenged me to perform at an open mic fairly early (I coul
dnt play a full song before starting lessons) and took his own time to come support me. He teaches piano too and has a great understanding of music theory. This was big for me as music theory is fascinating to me. Our lessons were very relaxed and always left me excited to get home and practice more. My interest in guitar is fairly schizophrenic and I like to change focus all the time to cover as much ground in our precious weekly hour. Adam did a great job working with my idiosyncrasies and taught me a great amount in the few months we had lessons. (I moved out of town)"

He's flexible and open with his approach, tailoring it to my interests in music and also answering questions I had when buying my first guitar. And, he's a great guy! I would highly recommend Omar to other prospective students of any instrument."
