I am a translator for Brazilian Portuguese but have worked as a teacher since I graduated because teaching is my passion and learning is my passion.

My focus in teaching is how to acquire a foreign language just as one acquires their native language, making that language a part of one’s life.
Whether you are brand new to the language or have been studying for awhile- I would love to be your guide on your language journey!

Are you looking to quickly learn and communicate in Portuguese? Are you traveling abroad to Brazil and need to speak to people for business or school? My courses in Brazilian Portuguese language immersion will teach you the basics of conjugation and vocabulary specific to conversational Portuguese that will get you far on your travels. With over ten years of experience in the study of Latin languages, and personal immersion experiences in Brazil and Mozambique, I've been able to hone and master the craft of learning language through immersion. I learned to speak Portuguese fluently in less than two months, and you can too! Let's get off book and into the beautiful, dynamic culture of Brazil!

I have a bachelor’s degree in Political Theory with a specialization in Latin languages and vocal performance. I am a native New Yorker who grew up around people who spoke many languages from all over the globe. I am not a native speaker in Spanish or Portuguese, and so many of my peers would ask me: how is it you learned to speak th
ese languages so quickly and so fluently? The trick to learning a new language begins with confidence. Just like learning a new instrument, you don’t want to allow the mechanism of your tool to trip you up when you want to communicate. Through techniques of active listening, immersion, and cultural integration, I have been successful at teaching students how to blossom within a new language, culture, and music.
Paulo Freire, Brazilian author of a critically acclaimed book on pedagogy once said: “The teacher is of course an artist, but being an artist does not mean that he or she can make the profile, can shape the students. What the educator does in teaching is to make it possible for the students to become themselves.” When I teach, I like my students to be able to experience their own creativity within a new context, learning more about themselves through new eyes and perspective.
I learned all the Portuguese I know from taking many different Portuguese classes at college, including grammar, linguistics, and literature and from living in the "Portuguese House" (at the Foreign Language Student Residence, part of on-campus housing at BYU) for two semesters. I specialize in teaching Portuguese to speakers of Spanish, but I can also teach anyone who wants to learn, even without any other prior language experience. I have grown to love the Portuguese language and the people of the various Portuguese-speaking countries around the world.
I hail from Walla Walla, Washington, home of the "famous" sweet onions. I can't begin to express how much I love languages!! I have studied 8 so far (Spanish, French, German, Japanese, Portuguese, Italian, Swedish, and Dutch) and I teach 5 (Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, and Japanese), and want to keep learning new languages throughout the rest of my life. I love to work with students so that's why I've kept my rates low--to make sure more people can have the opportunity to learn these languages. I have a down-to-earth style and I allow my students to guide their own learning in a student-structured, individualized way. As of June 2019, I have taught multiple students different languages, among whom are three students I have been teaching between 7 and 9 months, who have all improved considerably and continue to progress steadily
. I am positive I can help you come to understand the wonderful world that is language and to learn how amazing it is to be able to say the same thing in so many different ways, and how much better it is to be able to communicate with someone in his/her native language instead of having to resort to English. Let's do this!!
Note: I have not had any connectivity problems for quite a while now so be assured that I can provide quality instruction with no issues.
Since I'm absolute beginner in Japanese, I found Paul to be the perfect fit for me. If you are young or adult (me) I would highly recommend taking classes with Paul at least for your beginning classes. I'm sure he would be the perfect fit for you too.

Beginner and intermediate lessons. I have had a passion for the Portuguese language the moment I visited Brazilian soil 13 years ago and learned of their unique culture and romantic language. I lived in Brazil for two years and in Portugal for 4 months and will teach you the prominent accents from either place. I have a bachelors in Portuguese and have had previous employment opportunity teaching it. I will not only teach you but provide sources for you to utilize so that with each lesson you make large improvements.
Portuguese is my life and passion. I have lived in Brazil for two years and Portugal for 3 months--I understand and can teach the accents from both places. I am a Portuguese teacher but I also practice medicine on the side as a Physician Assistant. I previously taught Portuguese to students who needed to develop and learn the language in a matter of 2 months so that they could jump right into working and providing service in Brazil full-time. The best way to learn the language is through a variety of channels, such as music, videos, interpersonal communication, and various apps. I will utilize resources that are enjoyable for students to do at home to maximize their learning that is specific to them.
