Paul M. New York, NY

My goal as a teacher is to make students successful in their goals. I work with a variety of people; some of them study music for personal enjoyment and others for their musical career. Everyone responds differently to music, that is why I prepare special lessons for each student. It is important that my students enjoy what they are playing and for that reason I have a variety of repertoire that they can choose from.
From a lot of experience with beginner piano students, both young and adults, I have been able to find a regimen of piano teaching that combines time efficiency with fun. As the lessons continue, I slowly add new tools to each weekly lesson that are exiting and interesting. While working with intermediate to advanced students, I have had coached them to apply and get accepted into some of the top Universities and Conservatories in the country. My students, beginner intermediate and advanced levels, have been awarded for their performances and activities in schools and ...

Paul is an amazing musician, teacher and individual. Over the course of a few weeks he specifically evaluated my singing and worked with me in order to improve my singing. With every lesson that I had, I was able to notice real improvement in my voice. Paul also exposed me to a wide array of musical styles, in order to better get to know my voice which I thoroughly enjoyed. He is very encouraging and friendly, from the first lesson he already works to help you feel comfortable.

All in all, by having Paul as an instructor you get to learn from an amazing, accomplished musician who truly knows his field and who also has a great personality while being a great teacher, I think that sums it up pretty well.

Elliott A. New York, NY

About Elliott

I am a classically trained singer living, working, and teaching in NYC. I have a degree in vocal performance from The University of Maryland at College Park. While in the D.C. Metro area I performed as a chorister and soloist at The National Shrine, Metropolitan A.M.E Church, and the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. In need of a vocal coach, I searched the Takelessons website and by what I call devine guidance I selected Elliott A. He has been my coach for a little over a year now and I would highly recommend him for his qualifications, passion for singing and his incredible teaching gift. Elliott provides a comfortable environment and really goes extra miles to ensure that concepts he teaches are practically understood. I started with many bad singing habits and poor technique and now I can definitely see great improvement in my technique and vocal freedom. I look forward to continue working with him until and beyond reaching my goal of greatness. In my opinion he's simply the BEST.

Elliot is a gem! He is everything I wanted in an instructor!

I met Elliot through a friend who is also taking lessons from him. As a beginner I was very specific in what I wanted in a teacher--someone who is patient, kind, structured and has no problem starting with the very basic fundamentals in singing. Elliot took me on as a student and has proven to be everything I could have hoped to find in a teacher! Lesson after lesson I feel more confident and capable. I feel stronger in my voice and become more and more excited for singing. Elliot's knowledge of singing technique are showcased throughout the lesson as he explains exactly what is needed to be adjusted in your technique and his patience is key to a full understanding of what is needed to be done. I highly recommend Elliot to any singer looking to train their voice, maintain technique, or broaden their range!

The total package

I have been studying with Elliott for almost two years now and I could not be happier with the progress that we have made. Not only is he very good at communicating what I need to improve upon in the lesson, but also to help me to understand myself so that I remember and make it a habit. He's very reliable and professional, but also he makes a comfortable environment where one feels at ease and never afraid to voice opinions or concerns. I cannot wait to see where this next year takes us. :) He's also great with giving a healthy balance of encouragement in addition to critique.

A great experience!

I highly recommend Marni for voice lessons. She is an extremely talented teacher in both the mechanics and creative aspects of singing. Often, she explains concepts to me in a visual manner because it is familiar to me (I have experience in visual art). I'm amazed at how much I've improved my vocal range/quality in a short time, and how much more comfortable I feel when I sing (both physical comfort and improved confidence). Marni is a gifted artist who will help you find your unique singing voice.

Amy C. Weehawken, NJ

I have been a professional singer for most of my adult life. I love teaching and sharing my knowledge with students as they discover ways towards self-expression through the voice.

About Amy

I have been a voice teacher for over twenty- five years. My background includes ten years of classical training with Maestro Julio Berrocal as well as vocal training through the Feldekrais approach with Marcy Lindhiemer. In acting I have studied with renowned Stanislavsky scholar Sonia Moore and Master acting teacher of the Strasberg Method, Marcia Haufrecht. I believe we all have something distinctive that can be developed and expressed through the voice. I work to help the student discover their individual and unique sound. I give them tools to gain the ability and confidence to achieve their goals. I empathize deeply with the challenges that students face both in studying voice and performance since I have been a professional singer for many years. Through my personal experience in ...

Kathryn Z. New York, NY

All levels of voice are taught, geared to whatever is your musical specialty but using a technique stemming from classical voice.

About Kathryn

Kathy believes that variety is the spice of not only life, but also music. Raised singing folk music with a musical family (think accordions, guitars and lots of vocal harmonies), she learned guitar and piano at an early age, but began singing even earlier. Her quest to give the world the best her vocal cords could offer led her to obtain an undergraduate degree in vocal performance from the University of Nebraska (where she graduated honorable mention, named with the vocal department's Outstanding Senior in Music award, and also obtained a minor in theatre) and a master's degree in music from the Cleveland Institute of Music. Both of these degrees emphasized classical singing technique, and through this study Kathy gained a solid foundation for her musical craft. Once out of ...

Had been with Kathy for 4 years, I enjoyed every lesson with her. She is knowledgeable and inspiring. I was a totally beginner and she guided me through each step with patience. She not only taught me the piano skill but also how to appreciate music and how to observe the music integrated in everyday life.
