My college years from undergrad to graduate were concentrated on classical guitar. One of the most difficult styles to play but extremely rewarding and you can play all by yourself without any accompaniment! I can get you ready for a college tryout or just learn the basics, or whatever you want to know.
From Renaissance to Beatles.
I believe it is very important to learn the fundamentals of the guitar. I want all my students to be familiar with the entire fretboard and use the picking, fretting, and chording technique that best suits their hands and needs. I recognize that there is not one single right way to play the guitar and I will work on helping each student find the way that works best for them. I will also discuss proper care, maintenance, and storage of instruments.
Other important skills I teach are sight-reading (standard notation and lead sheets/chord charts), basic to advanced music theory, rhythm/lead playing, improvisation, chord voicing, and finger-style. I can help students learn a difficult song or guitar solo and even help them write their own music.
For students who want to learn classical guitar, there are some additional subjects we could cover. These include tone production, interpretation of different styles of classical and Latin guitar music, memorization, and performance.
