Students of all ages in a personal relaxed atmosphere.
Customized to each student. If the student has not previously taken lessons I use Piano Adventures as the basic course guide. I have found it the most productive and enjoyable for my students. I uses a minimum of the Lesson and Theory book for my younger students with either the basic course or Accelerated course depending on their age and maturity. Adults begin with the All In one adult book. I add the other books that accompany each level based on the particular students needs and interests. I believe that a good grounding in Theory is essential as a student who becomes proficient in sight reading, no matter how well he/she plays by ear, will find that the doors for lifetime musical fulfillment with be much wider. However, with a student who has already had some lessons I will be happy to continue with any method that the student is currently using.
I also believe in supplementing the Piano course with the student's favorite ...

My students receive individualized lessons based on their interest and ability. They learn to read music notation, play core piano literature, learn theory, music history, and composition.
All students participate in a yearly recital and have the option of entering the NJMTA Piano Festival to be adjudicated each year.
I have a two-fold goal with each student: that she or he become an excellent musician, and that we have fun together as that happens.
About Jennifer

After teaching elementary music in the public schools and operating a private music studio for 47 years, I retired from public school teaching in June. Since March, because of the coronavirus, I have been teaching lessons entirely online. I strive to personalize lessons to suit each student's learning style, ability and personal goals. My master's thesis was Developing an Approach for Beginning Group Piano Instruction. As a composer myself, I strongly encourage my students to understand music theory and to explore writing music of their own. I believe in strong sight-reading skills while supporting their natural abilities to learn by ear. The ultimate goal with all students is to develop a life-long love for music in order to make it a permanent part of their lives!
About Darrell
My goal is to personalize a music lesson that is designed around each student’s learning style, skill level, schedule and interests. My specialty is in teaching elementary age students, but I have taught all ages, including adults through the years. My philosophy for teaching involves these eleme

The glissando is another handy piano technique to have in your musical toolbox. Read on to find out how to incorporate it into your playing! Look at any piece of sheet music, and chances are you’ll see Italian musical terms such as largo, allegro, or acapella. Even the piano itself is named after the Italian term for “soft-loud,” pianoforte. Among these terms is one you may be unfamiliar with: the glissando. What is a Glissando?
