I have found that the classical music world can often fall into the trap of being stuffy, competitive, and intimidating. The professional scene can sometimes lose sight of what's really important (that music is supposed to be fun and enjoyable!) and unfortunately drive some people away from this divine art form. Music is everything and everywhere - it is the most intimate, intuitive and beautiful language that transcends the oral and written word. I do emphasize proper technique in lessons, but I do not lose sight of this truth and try my best to keep my students motivated and inspired. With all that being said, I can go at whatever pace the student wishes. I can provide a low pressure, light hearted environment. I am also capable of placing focus on refining proper violin/viola technique - this creates the best results and faster progress. At the end of each lesson, I give clear instructions how to productively practice at home.

About Aekyung

Graduated from The Juilliard School with both my Master's and Bachelor's degree. Studied with the principal of the NY Philharmonic. Suzuki Certified Teacher. Currently on faculty at an established music institute in CT and a member of the Hartford Symphony Orchestra. More about me: I am a highly

*** Lesson Details ***
I strongly believe that, if every child would be provided with an ideal environment, would gain extraordinary ability. There are no exceptions. No one can tell how able man is by the nature. What is known is the ability that is spoiled or developed. It cannot be denied that most children speak their native languages beautifully by learning about 3000-4000 words by age 5 or 6. Nothing can clearer demonstrate of the original power of the human mind. Through the years of studying and teaching music I realized that this is the most important concept for developing each kid's talent, to increase his or her ability to the maximum. Therefore I am combining the great methods of teaching violin. The Suzuki method and the Russian school method. Suzuki method helps at the earliest stage of playing an instrument and I am using later Russian school method for more advanced period of studying.

Tigran is a skillful, kind, patient and honest teacher. I’m a beginning adult learner and have been progressing very quickly with his help. Tigran’s teaching is structured and organized while keeping the lessons challenging and interesting enough to want to keep going. I value his time and knowledge. I also intend to continue learning the violin from Tigran for the long term. HIGHLY recommend!

Tom is very patient with younger students that get distracted easily. One of my children is very interested in learning Irish folk music and Tom is great about helping him explore his interests in music. I love having lessons in home. It's very convient and allows me to keep my toddler entertained while my other children are doing lessons. Lessons are also affordable. I would definitely recommend Tom!

I have been teaching violin for six years. Though I am classically trained, my interest in music goes far beyond classical music. I am constantly listening to various genres of music and consider myself a forever learner, loving everything in music from Prokofiev to the Flaming Lips. It is my job to help guide my students through their musical journeys, whether that is helping them get into their regional orchestra or teaching them that one song they've always wanted to learn. I teach out of the Essential Elements or Suzuki Method books. Though my lessons are fun and relaxed I will always give my students that extra push when needed. My goal is to help each student reach their personal success and to instill a love for playing music.

Tools for lessons:

Music Stand
Rosin
Shoulder rest or sponge
Previous method books (if you are not a first time learner)
Metronome
Pencil

Miss Phoebe is an excellent, patient instructor for my two young violinists! She is prompt, and has lots of tools in her tool kit to bring about proper posture, tone, sound. She exhibits a very warm kind discipline that makes clear her expectations without being mean about it at all. I think my kids have made significant progress under her tutelage and I would definitely recommend her for any skill level!

I'm an adult learner who went through Suzuki book 2 and a few other pieces with Phoebe as my instructor. I spent a month prior with a "bad experience" and hadn't taken lessons in probably 10 years before that.

Working with Phoebe was GREAT. She was very easy to work with and really saw to improving my skills. She was encouraging and very positive. When I had troubles with parts (which was often), she would always have multiple suggestions as to how to practice them to work through the difficulties. She also gave me nudges along when I didn't think I could do certain things too. All in all, I had a great experience working with Phoebe and would have loved to continue to work with her if she was still in my local area.

If you're wondering why not 5 stars, that's more from my lack of experience than any issue with her. The guide says 5 stars is the "best teacher ever". She probably was the best teacher ever for me, but I'm somewhere between beginner and intermediate. Is she a good fit for an advanced student, I'm going to guess that, yes, she is, but I don't know that info personally so I went with 4.

"My 12 year-old daugher has been practicing viola with Jill for 7 months now. From day 1, I have been impressed by Jill's teaching style that is rigorous, but also flexible and supportive. In just a few lessons, my daughter's music playing deepened. The most important to me was to see and hear my daughter starts to breath, feel and enjoy her music. I believe that now my daughter is not playing for me but more for herself. I am extremely thankful to Jill and recommend her highly as a violin and viola instructor. I believe her instruction will have a lifelong impact on my daughter. On top of things, my daughter and I enjoy our time during her lessons very much."

"My daughter is 14yr old and is passionate about music. Finding Mrs. Ignatov has been a blessing. In the past year and a half, my daughter's technique (bowing, phrasing, intonation) has improved vastly under her instruction.
She cares about her students and wants them to achieve their goals/dreams. My daughter made the CYSO's Philharmonic Orchestra in her first year of auditioning, all thanks to the guidance of Mrs. Ignatov and her attentiveness to details!
If you or your child love music and wish to achieve your full potential, Mrs. Ignatov will help you get there."
