Comprehensive and fun lessons focusing on musicality, technique and music theory for all ages.
Dear students and parents,
Hello and welcome to takelessons.com! My name is Jessica and I am classically trained violinist with over 20 years of playing experience. I was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland and recently relocated to Saint Louis County with my family. Music has always been passion of mine since a very young age, so it was inevitable that it would end up being my career. Naturally, a love for teaching the wonders of music followed suit!
I always try to form a great rapport with my students and parents from the very first lesson. For younger students, I encourage my parents to take an active part in both lessons and daily practice, as is encouraged by Shinichi Suzuki.
I've been teaching violin and viola professionally for over 12 years now. My experience includes teaching private lessons at students homes as wel
l as at various music schools, summer camps and festivals. A few advanced students have even attended and performed in some of these aforementioned festivals! I am always encouraging my students to go above and beyond.
A bit of background about me: I started my music studies at the age of 7. Lessons and orchestra were literally the highlight of my childhood. I ended up attending the Baltimore School for the Arts for high school, and went on to receive my Bachelor of Music Performance degree from Shenandoah University and complete further studies in England, Northern Ireland and Maryland (UMBC graduate certificate). I am also a registered Suzuki Violin/Viola teacher and have attended many teachers workshops in order to gain the knowledge and experience necessary to work with any and all types of students, including those with learning disabilities, such as ADD and FAS.
*** Lesson Details *** While I am a registered Suzuki violin teacher, I do not teach solely out of a certain method or "by the book"; I choose and mold every lesson depending on specific, strengths, weaknesses, etc. If you are a more advanced, serious player, more intensive lessons and repertoire will follow suit.
I am comfortable teaching all ages and levels up to advanced. Use of games make learning the violin fun and accessible for young children. Older and more advanced students receive a more technical, intensive and advanced approach. Coaching and weekly help on school assigned materials (orchestra/string class music and homework) Classical, Jazz, Gypsy and Fiddle styles are all introduced and studied to give students a rounded technique. Music theory (reading and understanding music) is incorporated in lessons. Repertoire is diverse and exciting. Various approaches for the visual or aural learner. Guaranteed to keep you or your child engaged and interested!
*** Equipment and Studio Lesson Details ***
-If you are coming to my home for lessons, please be sure to bring your instrument and any books you may already have.
**Please note, there are three cats in the house. They are usually isolated to a different part of the house during lessons to ensure there are no unnecessary distractions and to help minimize potential allergies (studio is also sprayed with allergy reducer spray and vacuumed regularly). All are UTD on shots. Please call and ask to schedule a "trial" lesson to see if the animals interfere with allergies.
New students: You may park on the cul-de-sac next to the house and walk down. I have a trial 1/8, 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 size violin to use for the first lesson if your child is a beginner. After the first lesson I will send an email explaining what materials and equipment I recommend you buy to help you sound your best.
Places to rent or buy instruments will be recommended upon request.
*** Cancellation/Reschedule Requests *** 1) At least 24 hours notice is required if you need to cancel your, or your child's, lesson. You will be given the option to take a credit that will automatically roll over to cover future unpaid lessons on your calendar, or the option to reschedule for a different day within a week of the canceled lesson.
2) If you find that you need to cancel with less than 24 hours notice you will be given the option to make up your lesson within 7 calendar days of your originally scheduled lesson time. If you cannot do a makeup lesson, this will result in the lesson being marked as "missed" and will still be charged as if you attended the lesson.
3) If you do not show up to your lesson scheduled at my home studio and no notice was given, the lesson will be marked as "missed" and will still be charged as if you attended the lesson.
4) If I need to reschedule or cancel a lesson for whatever reason, you will be given an option for a makeup lesson or given a credit that will automatically roll over to cover future unpaid lessons.
5) I require two weeks notice to discontinue lessons if you would like to receive a refund or be exempt from paying future tuition.
6) All lessons are billed ahead of schedule and must be paid in advance in order to keep your lesson slot.

Sheila was exceptionally supportive and patient with my beginner's efforts . . . looking forward to steady improvement with my fiddle-
I like making music fun. With the knowledge that playing an instrument is very difficult, my approach to teaching is to make each task seem as easy as possible. I promote the art of listening to music just as much as playing the notes on the page. I incorporate all the important aspects of violin playing: posture, sight-reading, technique, scales, and musicality to turn all my students into the best musicians they can be!
My name is Annarita and I am a violinist from Des Plaines, Illinois. I began playing at the age of seven, and by the time I was in high school I realized I wanted to make playing and teaching violin my career.
In 2013, I graduated with my Bachelor's Degree in music from Loyola University Chicago. During my college career I had the opportunity to spend a semester in Vienna, Austria to expand my knowledge of the classical music world.
In 2010, I began playing with the Fox Valley Orchestra - an ensemble of which I am still a part and consider my second home. I also perform regularly with the Kankakee Valley Symphony Orchestra, Stargate Productions, as well as the string orchestra at Northeastern Illinois University. In 2015 I had the opportunity to perform with Rod Stewart...one of my favorite memories!
Besides my passion for perf
orming, I also very much love teaching. I worked with The People's Music School and with the Chicago Metamorphosis Orchestra Project in Chicago as a violin teacher and ensemble coach. I also teach a wide range of private students.
*** Lesson Details *** 1. I set goals with my students and give them the tools they need in order to reach them. -I focus a lot on note reading, music theory, practice techniques, and bodily awareness to ensure each student understands every aspect of their instrument and music 2. I explain how the assigned studies will help improve students' overall ability to play the violin -I'm not a "spoon-feeder" - I teach my students how to teach themselves and think independently! 3. I keep my lessons at an appropriate difficulty for each student. 4. Most importantly, I teach students how to practice efficiently and with patience. Improvement does not happen overnight; but with a little focus and patience, it will come a lot sooner than you think!
*** Travel Equipment *** Students must have an instrument, music stand, assigned music, and a metronome if necessary.

Aside from all the technical aspects of learning violin, I will coach you to become a confident musician. You will achieve this confidence by strengthening your skills and having fun at the same time!
You will learn: proper technique, music theory, music history, to sight-read, tune your violin, solos, collaborate with other musicians, how to conduct, and how to prepare for an audition.
I take the lessons at the student's learning pace, and I challenge them to get past mental barriers.
Whether you are playing as a hobby, interested in preparing for an audition, or simply need extra help, this is the place for you.
**Lessons resume first week of October! Save your spot now!**

- - - Hello there, curious musician to be!
Over the past few years I've developed the most beautiful relationships with my students, and their families. I've helped complete beginners gain enough skills, and confidence to perform in recitals in front of many guests! If you're interested in performing (not mandatory), I host 2 recitals a year, and they're a huge hit! If your child has special needs, I do accept most students.
Many of my students have auditioned, and been accepted into theater companies, orchestras, and choirs. Whether you are just starting out, or are looking to improve on your skills, this is the studio for you.
I've been playing the violin when I was 10, and have performed wit
h several Honors Orchestras, mariachis, as well as professional groups. My Junior and Senior year of high school I was honored to be Concertmaster.
I began my classical vocal training at San Diego State University in Spring of 2012. I was trained as a Soprano and an Alto because of my coachability, and musicianship. Since then I have worked with several talented and dynamic directors throughout my training experience. I have attended the annual San Diego Summer Choral Festival, as well as the Conducting Workshop, which consisted of an intensive choral training weekend followed by performances. I am also part of a professional choir in San Diego called Pro Arte Voices, and regularly sing with the El Paso Chamber Choir.
I continue to work on myself so that I can always give my best to my students, and teach them something new. I look forward to making music with you, or your child soon :)
We have had a wonderful experience with Souaad - both when she lived in San Diego and once we started doing lessons online. My daughter started with her at age 10 and is now 13 and loving her vocal experiences. We initially started with Souaad in preparation for an audition for a musical but have continued with more lessons and ongoing training both vocally and with music theory.
Her experiences with Souaad has encouraged her to audition for many plays (and she's gotten the roles!) and join the school choire. Souaad is very professional to work with as a parent and also very engaging for my daughter. Right now they are working together for a recital and will be performing a duet together. She's very flexible with schedules too. Couldn't be happier!

At the age of 58 I decided to start taking violin lessons for 2 reasons, enjoyment of playing music and exercise my brain. I found Lucy K on the takelessons.com website and she was able to accommodate my request for lessons in my home on a Sunday. Starting from scratch, she taught me the fundamentals of playing and I have made some progress over the last 8 months. She is patient with me yet will push me along and at time bring me out of my comfort zone, which is good. She has the ability and training to teach students from early age to older adults like me. In addition, she also teaches piano, which my wife started lessons with Lucy K at the same time I started violin. She has my recommendation if you have interest in either violin or piano.
Learn to play violin in whatever style you want -- Jazz, Bluegrass, Classical, you name it! I have more than 4 years of experience performing in versatile ensembles all around Chicago, everywhere from Symphony Center to the Green Mill Jazz Club. I also have more than 6 years of teaching experience with students of all ages. Lessons are completely customized and catered to the needs/goals of each student. My utmost goal in teaching is to help students develop a unique musical voice!
I am a professional violinist... and fiddle player! I graduated from Roosevelt University with a Bachelor of Music degree in Violin Performance.
My students can expect to improve week to week in their violin technique and overall musicianship. Every student is interested in different types of music; I teach students to apply foundational techniques in order to unlock their own individual sound in whatever style they choose.
I teach students of all different ages and experience levels. I have studied classical violin for 14 years, and jazz fiddle for 7 years. I can teach students to read music and pursue classical excellence, but also how to perform alternative styles such as jazz or bluegrass either by ear or by using chord sheets and transcriptions.
As a professional violinist, I currently spend most of my time playing with the Civi
c Orchestra of Chicago. In the past, I have also been fortunate enough to work with amazing ensembles such as the Chicago Jazz Philharmonic and the Millennial Chamber Players. I have performed in jazz combos at iconic Chicago venues such as the Jazz Showcase and the Green Mill. I also regularly play around the city with the bluegrass band Android Mandela and the Spanish rock band Calaveras LD.
Music is everything to me, and I bring the same energy and passion to my teaching that I bring to my creative music making!

All ages welcome. Lessons are customized and catered to the needs/goals of each student. Not only will you be playing songs in no time, but you will be building a strong foundation of note reading, music theory, ear training, sight reading, technique, and more. I have different graduated professional music teacher available For all the instruments offered.
Learning a musical instrument should be fun, exciting, and most importantly pain-free.
I have been playing the violin for over 24 years. I like to teach beginning, intermediate, and advanced students regardless of their age. I would prefer beginners to take at least one year of piano lessons prior to learning how to the play the violin. This way students can transfer basic music knowledge into violin playing, especially in the field of reading and learning new music. My goal is to help music lovers learn how to teach themselves one day when a music teacher is no longer available.
I started teaching in 2011 while I was completing the Master of Music degree at Rice University. As I finished my Doctor of Musical Arts degree in December 2017, I decided to build and expand my own studio in Burleson, TX.
I also tutor beginning, intermediate, and advanced Chinese and have always loved Chinese literature.
Thank you Chaul for a great lesson and also for being so patient with me when my computer didn't log into the session right away. I enjoyed my first lesson and am excited to have such a fabulous teacher that sent me material and information to prepare for my first session. I feel confident that I will be able to progress and I know that I will enjoy learning with you. I'm looking forward to my next lesson.
