I focus on technique, and I like to explore with my students different music styles, and help them to find the one they like the most.

Hi! My name is T.J. and I am a professional drummer and educator currently living in Forest Park, IL. I received my B.A. in Jazz Studies from Elmhurst College in the Spring of 2019. I have been playing professionally in Chicago and it's surrounding suburbs for over five years now, and have played the drum set for 13 years.

I am very passionate about my craft, and absolutely love spreading that knowledge with others and inspiring them to the best of my ability. I am well versed in many styles, including Rock, Jazz,, Fusion, Funk, World Music, and Classical Percussion.

I am active in many bands, such as Instrumental Rock/Fusion band Elysian Green and Folk/Rock band Fleeting Suns (check either out on spotify!) The drum set is a important instrument for every musician to try out, and it can be a ton of fun! A beginning student can expect to play along to many of their favorite songs in just a few weeks. An intermediate to advanced student can expect to have a skillset that will propel them into auditions with bands in whatever genre most interests them. This would entail an understanding of polyrhythm, feel (swing vs. straight, for example), consistent tempo and the ability to replicate basic drumbeats in any genre on their instrument. Any drum beat can be simplified or made more complex to suit the students ability level, so we can delve in to whatever kind of drum-beats inspire you!
