I have been teaching violin for seven years. Though I am classically trained, my interest in music goes far beyond classical music. I am constantly listening to various genres of music and consider myself a forever learner, loving everything in music from Prokofiev to the Flaming Lips. It is my job to help guide my students through their musical journeys, whether that is helping them get into their regional orchestra or teaching them that one song they've always wanted to learn. I teach out of the Essential Elements and Suzuki Method books. Though my lessons are fun and relaxed I will always give my students that extra push when needed. My goal is to help each student reach their personal success and to instill a love for playing music.
Tools for lessons:
Music Stand
Rosin
Shoulder rest or sponge
Previous method books (if you are not a first time learner)
Metronome
Pencil

In our first lesson, you will learn about the parts of your instrument, how to care for it, and how to hold it. You will even learn some notes and begin reading music! By the end of your first package of lessons, you will be able to play with lovely tone, using the bow as well as plucking, and will have a handful of simple songs under your belt.
Students describe me as patient, fun, and encouraging! As your teacher, you can expect me to work with you from where you are, and with subjects and curriculum that match what you are interested in learning. I teach traditional classical, using either Suzuki or Essential Elements, depending on your learning and self-motivational needs, and I also teach fiddle music, including Celtic, old-time, bluegrass, and alternative styles. *Please check my availability before signing up, as my time slots are quickly filling up!* I look forward to meeting you! Call Take Lessons today to sign up!

I have worked as a professional String Teacher for the past 10 with students learning the Violin, Viola, Cello, Double Bass and Guitar. I have also worked as an Orchestra Director in public schools in Boston, San Francisco and New York. My students enjoy learning with me and are inspired not only about playing music, but about life.
You will learn the proper position to facilitate playing any of the string instruments.
After studying with me, you will have a strong understanding of how to develop your position, tone and technique on the violin. You will learn more about music based on your level (of current understanding). You will explore. You will learn how to play along to/with a song of your choice. You will be reminded that this is a tool and you are the artist.
What is your message or reason for playing?
What purpose does it fulfill?
You will receive/be given creative encouragement to express yourself.
You will be inspired.

Experienced teacher of 5 years, I have taught strings in the schools as well as in my private studio. I specialize in working with beginners and intermediate students grades 5-12, but adults are welcome too! We use a body-oriented approach to help students play the violin with ease and clarity. This approach includes a mix of Alexander Technique, body mapping, Suzuki pedagogy, Karen Tuttle Coordination, and my somatic movement education curriculum. However, we also equally rely on ear training. Whether you're reading notes for the first time or playing by ear, we do ear training. Through this method, you become more comfortable playing the violin, and with dedication, you learn how to become your own teacher. Ready to get started?
About Anastasia
I am a singer, violist, voice coach, music educator, somatic movement educator, and interdisciplinary artist. I hold two degrees: a Bachelor of Science from the University of Vermont and a Bachelor of Music from the UNC School of the Arts. Born and raised in Memphis, TN, I grew up singing gospel a

Anna is an outstanding teacher who really understands how to get through to a student! She places a lot of emphasis on physical aspects of violin technique such as relaxation, that often go unaddressed by most teachers, leading to future problems.
The most striking thing about Anna's pedagogical style is that she is truly passionate about bringing the music to life. She constantly emphasizes the emotional interpretation of the music, however simple the piece may be, and ensures that the student projects the right tonal quality and color to bring out these interpretations.
Working with her has been a great experience, and I always eagerly look forward to the next lesson!"

Provided answers to all my questions and constructive criticism where improvement was needed.
He is always quick to provide positive reinforcement and encouragement."

If you are searching for an outstanding violin teacher, I highly recommend Helena. Her students benefit from her many years of teaching and performing experience as well as her extensive educational background. When you learn musical pieces with Helena she teaches proper technique with just the right amount of music theory to produce well-rounded musicians. Some of her best qualities are her great abundance of patience that she mixes with professionalism, kindness, a sense of humor, and a great deal of encouragement.  Helena is certainly a violin teacher you will be glad you found. I feel privileged to be her student! Thank you Helena for continually inspiring me to learn and keeping me challenged as well!"
