I can help beginning students on viola learn the basics.

About Thomas
Thomas J. W. is an active music teacher, composer, adjudicator, and clinician in the greater Philadelphia area. He has over fifteen years experience as a concert band director, marching band director, jazz improvisation instructor, choral director, private instructor, and marching drill writer. His directing career has included small rural band programs, small metro programs, large high-achieving suburban programs, and non-profit youth bands. In addition to his band compositions, he also has over forty unpublished vocal arrangements to his credit, most written for use with collegiate men's a cappella groups. Thomas taught over 600 online and local private music lessons in 2016.

Thomas has a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education from The Pennsylvania State University. He holds a teaching certificate in the states of Pennsylvania
and New Jersey and has taught at the secondary level in both states. In addition to both instrumental and choral ensembles at Penn State, Thomas was a student leader in the Penn State Blue Band and a member of the brass section of the Cadets of Bergen County Drum and Bugle Corps in 1993 and 1994. He served as an Associate Director of the Warren Junior Military Band of Youngstown, Ohio from 1995 to 2005. He also served as a visual staff member for the renowned North Penn Marching Knights of Lansdale, PA for one season in 2004.

He is a current adjudicator with Drum Corps International and Cavalcade of Bands. He is a member of MENC, PMEA, NJMEA, ASCAP, CASA, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, and the National Band Association. He appeared in the Marquis Who's Who Among American Educators in 2004 and 2005, an honor rarely bestowed upon teachers, as students who appear in the Who's Who Among American High School Students must nominate them. He currently is a music teacher at the Center for Performing and Fine Arts of the PA Leadership Charter School in West Chester, PA and resides in Downingtown, PA with his wife and two sons.

Thomas will happily work with students on the autism spectrum or students with ADD.

*** Lesson Details ***
My lessons are tailored to the needs and interests of each student. If a student is involved in school music ensembles, we will work with their lesson books from school in addition to material outside of the books, including SmartMusic, Noteflight, and teacher-created materials. We will focus on building proper tone production and individual technique - something that often is difficult to learn in a large ensemble setting.

I am capable of starting a beginner student on any band instrument including percussion, any classical string instrument (violin, viola, cello, string bass), and piano. I can begin a student on drum set and work with them through their first method book, but I would then recommend they find a specialized drum set teacher after a period of six to twelve months.

For advanced students, I work from selected conservatory etude books on developing advanced skills and can work with students on audition pieces for honors bands/orchestras or college auditions.

My lessons are a half-hour once a week, with the option of working for 45 minutes or 60 minutes.

*** Specialties ***

Thomas is honestly an amazing musician and teacher. He was really patient with me. Despite having to deal with major timezone differences (as I live in Myanmar), he took the time to figure it out. Also, he helped me figure out the stuff it took me months to figure out. He also really knows what he's doing. I learned so much in that hour of practice. 10/10 would recommend him.

You will learn posture and note reading for the alto clef. You will be guided by me through method books and I will create supplemental materials to help you advance. You will play duets with me and develop playing skills. You will learn higher positions and learn to play in an orchestra to follow a conductor. You will learn how to articulate to make the viola stand out in an ensemble. I have been teaching viola for 5 years. My students win seats in school orchestras. I want to be your next instructor.

About Mark
I NOW TEACH ONLINE LESSONS. I teach according to your individual needs. I only teach in my own studio. I do not travel anymore. I also have time to teach lessons every other week. You may inquire to me about my availability to teach every other week on Saturdays. I help you become successful on piano, violin, cello, viola, bass, guitar, or bass guitar. I help you learn the instrument and learn to read music with my own ideas using fun worksheets and songs you really like to learn how to play. I fill your voids with activities such as practice techniques, sub-lessons, and ear training. I guide you toward proper posture, tone development, and the ability to keep a steady beat. I help you develop your musical independence by tweaking lessons to help you succeed. I help you have fun learning to read music for your instrument using my materia
ls. I believe talent is not a factor in learning. Mastering an instrument is the result of effective instruction and step by step guidance toward foundations and skills. I love to teach private lessons because I believe in spreading the word to make the great gift of playing music available to many. It is an inherited right and gift to enjoy a lifetime of personal satisfaction from playing a musical instrument. I love to help students build confidence and make progress. I help them problem solve by going through problems with them. I teach "how to think" and how to become a life long learner of the instrument. I love the challenge of finding ways to help students become successful at every step of the way. I am excited and enthused to be apart of student progress. I am influenced by many 20th Century performers including Van Cliburn, Oscar Peterson, George Shearing, Erroll Garner, Yudi Menuhin, Issac Stern, Dave Brubeck, and Horowitz among others. I am passionate in my teaching about providing an effective solution to my student's needs. I am pleased to announce my teaching has awarded a cello student a spot at Del Sol music high school for the 2017-2018 school year. this student of mine passed an audition January of 2017 as a result of my teaching. The student worked very hard and followed my instruction very well. Congratulations!! I am also pleased to announce two of my cello students have both passed auditions to play in the Las Vegas Youth Orchestra starting in September 2017, September 2018, and September 2019. They both auditioned during May 2017, May 2018, and May 2019. Congratulations to both of you!!! There is also a viola student of mine who has passed audition for LVYO in May 2019 for the September 2019 season; Congratulations!! I also had a violin student who passed auditions for LVA (Las Vegas Academy) a couple of years ago. I have no connection to these organizations. These students all worked hard and followed my instruction. I can help you learn as well. Recently with the development of "octave" strings, if you have been split between learning violin, viola, or cello; these strings installed on a violin or viola make the instrument sound like a cello. It is really something. They are tuned an octave below, so they sound very low. A lot of cello music will have to be transcribed for owners of these instruments installed with "octave" strings. Videos can be found on YOU TUBE of these instruments played. They are ordinary violins or violas strung up with thicker strings to sound an octave below.

I am a professional educator who works with both children and adults, and has the patience to help them. I am a performer who has over 30 years of public experience in solo playing as well as ensemble work. I have performed at Nordstrom for nine years, and performed at many private functions. I have performed classical as well as jazz music as part as my performance experience. I have taught private lessons for well over 20 years. I'm sorry, as of Summer 2016 I do not travel to student locations. I teach at my studio as well as online. If you are among the many parents who home-school your children, you should consider music lessons for them. There are many benefits of home-schooling, but unfortunately students miss out on specials. Practicing an instrument can make up for that and also teach critical learning habits and personal skills toward learning in general. Give me a try, in my studio or online; I can help you learn.

*** Lesson Details ***
I believe in personalizing your approach to the strangeness of the instrument. You need to learn much about posture, and proper tone production within the first year. Method books are not "how to" books. You need a teacher to guide you toward becoming familiar with the instrument. You also need to learn how to listen to the sounds you make as you play. To develop "musical independence" you need to become musically literate, develop tone production skills, and internalize a steady beat. Rhythm and tone are basic concepts that must be mastered to maximize pleasure in playing your instrument. Learning how to problem solve is another skill I teach so you can help yourself toward progress.
I believe in using the instrument in daily activities such as playing "Happy Birthday" at family get together. Christmas Songs or Hanukkah Songs can bring much joy during December family parties.
A musician in the house brings much joy during holidays and celebrations; and the families are brought closer together. Memories are created and last forever. Playing an instrument is exciting and expresses what can not be said using words. I believe in teaching students based on their strengths, and building upon them. I am excited to help you learn!!

I only teach in my own studio and online. I do not travel anymore.

You can advance quickly if you are taught to listen to yourself and follow my instruction. I will guide you every step of the way to understand how music making works. Music lessons are fun and enjoyable. I am pleased to guide you through your learning every step of the way. My students in Las Vegas have had much success with my teaching and guidance. I will succeed where others fail. You will reap the benefits of my professional instruction. I bring a wealth of teaching experience, teacher training, and professional playing experience to every lesson. Most music store studio instructors have very little or no teacher training. Playing experience does not make one a helpful teacher. Failure to learn "how to" teach along with not earning any teaching credentials will not make anyone an effective music instructor.
I have experience teaching children and adults with autism within a variety of functioning ranges. They learn in their own unique style which suits them best.

Our 8 year old son had his first Guitar lesson with Dee this past weekend, and she was amazing. She wasted no time getting down to brass tacks with our son, showing him the various parts of the guitar, how to hold it and within minutes he knew two chords. She was able to keep our kiddo engaged, offered great praise and positive feedback/reinforcement and kept him on task for the entire 45 minute lesson. We could not be happier and cannot wait to see what he learns during his next lessons with her!

About Ray
Hello!

My name is Ray, I'm 31 years old, and was born in Queens, NY. I studied classical music for many years as a youngster at the Aaron Copeland School of Music college preparatory program. During this program I was introduced to Jazz, and around the same time began experimenting with synthesizers. I went on to study Electronic Production & Design at Berklee College of Music in Boston, and quickly became a very sought after studio musician and performer.

I've been successfully teaching many instruments and proficiency levels for approximately 16 years now, and can say with pride that teaching is my passion, and I anticipate it remaining a very important part of my life.

I enjoy reading nonfiction books on science, math, and philosophy.

*** Lesson Details ***
My music lessons are unique for three main reasons:

1. I h
ave a very deep understanding of music, sound, and theory, and feel music to be one of my native languages.

2. I have devoted considerable amounts of time and energy studying neuroscience, which has greatly improved my understanding of the learning process.

3. I have been blessed with the tremendous amount of patience necessary to guide a student through the necessary steps it takes to learn at whatever pace is optimal, in order to maximize the efficiency of the learning process for each individual.

*** Equipment ***
Students must have their own instrument, and purchase their own materials (books, etc). From time to time I make my way to a local music shop, and am happy to purchase materials for reimbursement.

*** Specialties ***
Classical music is my background, and what I believe to be the most cognitively and emotionally fulfilling style of music to listen to, study, and play. That said, I'm also a big fan of pop music (as well as other genres), and encourage students to enjoy, for example, learning their favorite songs from the radio.

My understanding of music theory is extremely thorough, and I'm happy to incorporate as much or as little of it as the student's interest dictates, nevertheless maintaining the minimal amount of theory necessary to get the most out of learning music and the instrument.

Thanks for checking out my profile! Please contact me with any additional questions you may have, as well as to inquire about day/time availability. I'll do my best to get back to you right away (usually within a few hours).

I love the viola; I'm primarily a violist and love nothing more. I would love to share my passion with you or your child!

I have a Master's degree in Viola Performance, and viola is my primary instrument. I have received extensive instruction on the minutiae of the viola, and can help you with any need that you many have!

I tailor my approach to each student. Some students require more technical work, some require interpretive. Both are fascinating and can be taught with structure and clarity.

About Martina
Hi! My name is Martina and I am a classically trained violist. For my background, I received a Master of Music from Roosevelt University, where I studied with Lawrence Neuman of the Chicago Symphony. I received an undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin with Sally Chisholm of the Pro Arte quartet.

The only thing I love more than playing viola is sharing the joy of music with others! I've received training on violin and viola and can't wait to start teaching you or your child.

*** Lesson Details ***
I tailor my approach to each student to make sure that:
1.) The student is getting exactly what he/she wants out of the lessons.
2.) The lessons are an appropriate difficulty for the student.
3.) A student's strengths and weaknesses are being addressed with a tailor-made lesson plan and long-term goals.

For the last year I have been taking piano, viola and violin lessons online with DeAndre. He is a natural, insightful teacher and I look forward to years of lessons with him. I would absolutely recommend him.

I'm a beginner with the violin and viola and an intermediate pianist. I was doubtful at first that I would be able to learn through a video chat. I'm amazed at the detail DeAndre can pick up just by watching a video chat. There have been many times when we just did the lesson over the phone with no video and he was able to tell that my fingering hand was in the wrong position or I was holding the bow wrong just by listening over the phone!

On and off through my life I've taken piano and viola lessons (I'm 46) and was never able to get very far. I found my teachers discouraged me in many ways without trying to. DeAndre has been fantastic. With his instruction I've been able to do things I never thought I would ever be able to do. He's excellent at giving feedback about the things I'm doing wrong but in a way that keeps me positive and makes me aware of the things I'm doing well and the things I need to improve.

DeAndre is absolutely worth the time and money.

Classically trained, but I also love alternative styles! I can make skill-appropriate arrangements of whatever music you want to learn, and teach you the technique you need to master it!

I love sharing music with people of all ages. When your teacher is having a great time too, you'll learn more, better and faster!

I really can't describe the emotion of seeing a student light up when they conquer a new technique or figure out that song they obsessed over. Whether your child wants to join the school orchestra and learn classical method; or you were inspired by Lindsey Stirling and just want to learn that one song; or you're retired and have always dreamt of crossing "Learn an Instrument" off your bucket-list, I would love to guide you on your journey to musical literacy!

About Elly
Hi, my name is Elly. I was inspired to learn violin when I was very little, after seeing a performance of Riverdance- I fell in love with Irish fiddle and begged my mom to let me begin lessons.

I began classical violin lessons in elementary school. By middle school, I had worked my way up to the advanced school orchestra. In 7th grade things changed- we found out that both of our viola players would be missing our next concert. My orchestra teacher begged me to take a viola and methods book home that weekend and learn the parts to fill-in for our absentees. I ended up loving it! I pursued classical viola all the way through middle and high school, then at the University of Arizona, as part of numerous string ensembles and symphonic orchestras.

I continued independent studies of violin, frequently attending Bluegrass and Irish music
jams and festivals.

One of my favorite musical experiences was being part of the Northwest Intergenerational Community Orchestra: a full symphony in which members ranged in age from 9 to 90, and skill levels from first-year player to retired career professionals. I started as a guppy and ended up a respected mentor after several years' participation. Being immersed in that environment was simply amazing, and showed me that age and experience are never a limiting factor in the kind of beauty that can ensue from mutual musical passion.

I will teach all ages and abilities, and I would prefer to travel to you. If you are unable to host, I can possibly arrange an alternate location. Thanks for visiting my profile, and I hope to hear from you!

I strive to craft lessons which will give my students a wide base of skills on the violin, although we will be foremost concerned with having excellent technique and a great sound. Beyond that, I can teach you note reading, theory, composition/arranging, and improvisation. If you are interested in learning something other than classical violin, I also have extensive experience in bluegrass, old-time, and jazz fiddle, and can help you develop a unique voice on your instrument. Shoot me a message today to see if we'd be a good fit!

About Kyle
I am a professional violinist, violist, guitarist, pianist, and educator. In addition to recording and touring with my own bands, I regularly arrange and record strings for artists and producers in a wide range of styles, from underground rappers to indie rock bands to grammy winning pop producers. I studied classical viola and composition at Temple University's Boyer School of Music, and have also studied at the Montreal Conservatory and IRCAM in Paris. I currently teach about 35 students a week ranging in ability from beginner to advanced, and ranging in age from 4 to 64. My versatility, experience, and formal training ensure a fun and engaging learning experience, catered towards what YOU want to learn (with some suggestion/encouragement from me of course).

I've studied classical viola for 13 years, with some training in bluegrass
and old-time too. I've also received training in jazz and rock guitar, and have been trained in the Taubman Method on piano, allowing me to teach my students to play with confidence and ease, without fear of injury later on.

Students can expect to receive top notch training in technique and theory. All students will also receive training in improvisation in a variety of styles, so that they can not only play and understand other people's music, but create their own too. Students interesting in writing/recording will also have the opportunity to write and record a song with me, and learn all my best tips and tricks along the way!

Some styles I regularly give lessons in: Rock, Classical, Jazz, Pop, Bluegrass, Folk, Country, Punk, Indie Rock, and Blues.

The main goal of my teaching is to help students express themselves through their music. I tailor my teaching to each individual student, according to their personality, physiology and current needs. While giving students structure and discipline to play with a healthy posture, sound, and intonation, it is also important to keep that same sense of wonder and discovery as when first hearing a new piece of music.

About Helen
[Education]
I graduated with a Bachelor of Music from the Korea National University of Arts. After that, I came to the US to study at Mannes School of Music with Daniel Panner, and at New England Conservatory in Boston with Dimitri Murrath. I graduated in 2014 with a Master of Music from New England Conservatory. I took Masterclasses with Kim Kashkashian, Roberto Diaz, Steven Tenenbom, CJ Chang, and James Dunham.
In the field of education, I completed Suzuki Teaching Certification in Hartford, CT.
[Teaching experience]
I am currently on the viola faculty of San Francisco Conservatory of Music pre-college. Before that, I taught at Encore Chamber Music in Cleveland. I have been teaching privately since 2005 and maintained a private studio in Boston before I moved to California.
[Student successes]
My students have entered into the fin
als of Northern California Viola Society competition, and are members of the San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra. In Boston, my students were members of the Boston Philharmonic Youth Orchestra. Several of my students' music training contributed to them qualifying and entering prestigious higher education colleges, such as Harvey Mudd College and Brown University.
