Suzuki pedagogy employed for beginners

About Farobag
Music Director of the Chicago Philharmonia Orchestra since 1985, Farobag has also served as Managing Director of the University of Chicago Performing Artists Series from 1989 through 2002 and principal conductor of its resident professional ensembles. A skilled interpreter of Baroque literature as well, Farobag continues in his capacity as Artistic Advisor to the Baroque Masterplayers, a virtuoso ensemble that concatenates period performance techniques with modern instruments thus creating a unique voice within the realm of 17th and 18th- century repertoire.

A double graduate of the Eastman School of Music and the University of Rochester, Farobag studied under Anastasia Jempelis, a pioneer of Suzuki violin pedagogy in the United States. In addition to the Suzuki curriculum, he is also associated with the Royal Conservatory Music Devel
opment Program that sets a national standard of musical achievement in various fields.

Befitting his penchant for encouraging artistic interest amongst younger members of his community, Farobag is also the principal conductor of the Zoroastrian Symphony Orchestra that offers a unique mixture of young and seasoned professionals sitting side-by-side in a strictly professional setting. Since the year 2000, the ZSO has staged highly successful performances at various venues in Houston, Chicago, and Toronto. A New Year's eve performance in Los Angeles is scheduled for 2014.

Having also taken graduate-level coursework in educational psychology, mathematics, and philosophy at the University of Chicago, Farobag offers tutelage in various areas of elementary and secondary education as well as in SAT, ACT and GRE test preparation.

Additionally, as a certified Reiki Master, therapeutic and/or educational sessions are also extended to those who may be inclined to alternative healing techniques.

*** Lesson Details ***
Sheer technique is necessary but insufficient to play an instrument well. Aural skills, that include the study of functional tonality and voice-leading are important factors that impart musicality. This is of great import if the prospective musician wants the audience to truly enjoy his or her performance !

Whether it be the 3 Rs or preparation in the performing arts, a remarkable instructor must go well beyond the subject matter at hand and help imbue the student with a spirit of wonder that, in due time, will foster enthusiasm necessary for excellence.

A child emulates and learns to communicate in his or her mother-tongue through a supporting and nurturing environment. Likewise, a student needs to be sufficiently motivated to embrace learning in a familiar supportive manner.

*** Studio Equipment ***
The In-Studio lesson take place in the living room. Driveway parking. No pets.

*** Travel Equipment ***
None; I do expect a reasonably good piano / keyboard at a student's home.

*** Specialties ***
Traditional and Suzuki-based education. Performance and musicality training is open to all instrumentalists.

*** CD's***

I've taught violin for over ten years. I promise you'll have an exciting first lesson! I've been a violinist for Glee (1000 Miles), Kevin Olusola (Pentatonix, "Heart Attack"), and Perla Batalla (Leonard Cohen). I have a BFA degree in Violin Performance/Composition from the California Institute of the Arts.

Our lessons will focus on strengthening technique and sight-reading skills first and foremost, and we'll get you started to being the violinist you've always wanted to look and sound like.

About Andy
I am Andy. I am a graduate of the California Institute of the Arts with a BFA degree in Composition/Violin Performance. I will be attending school again in the Fall to get my teaching certificate to teach in the public school system. My violin playing has been featured on Glee, with Kevin Olusola (Pentatonix), and guitar featured on shows like Rachel Ray and Dr. Phil. My main passions are songwriting, and collaborating with other great musicians all over the country.

I have been a private music teacher for the past 8 years and it has been an extremely rewarding journey. My students love their lessons with me, and parents love that I am patient and more open-minded than most music teachers out there. Students say I am friendly and funny, and fun to learn with. My teaching style on the violin is centered around the Suzuki method, but I l
eave a lot of flexibility to cater lessons around your interests. If you ask to play a certain song, I will find a way to help you play it. Every goal is achievable with practice, dedication, and fun!

Andy has been teaching my son piano for the last two years. My son always looks forward to going to piano with Andy and he has made so much progress. Andy is very communicative about my son's progress and ideas he has for new goals. Andy is very good at helping my son keep his enthusiasm for piano. He is also sensitive about where my son is at in terms of what he needs to strengthen or if any adjustments need to be made. I highly recommend Andy, not only as a music teacher, but as a person with whom you would want yourself or children to spend time with each week.

If you are not having fun while learning an instrument you won't want to learn. Lessons can be fun AND educational at the same time. I have had many parents tell me I'm one of the best teachers they have ever seen. (A couple of them were public school teachers themselves). Our daughter took cello lessons from Esther from 9th grade through her senior year in high school. Esther is an excellent teacher and she taught our daughter so much in such a short amount of time! I so loved going to all her mini recitals too! Especially when they had mini ensemble groups! They did some original scores that just blew me away! One such original was called "School in the Wall" that combined Alice Cooper's School's Out for Summer and Pink Floyd's Brick in the Wall and it was completely awesome! Thanks Esther for teaching Summer!

Excellent teacher. I started violin lessons with Esther as a beginner adult in music and violin. I knew very little and was nervous about how to "jump in" to music later in life. Esther patiently and effectively guided me towards realizing my own individual potential. I initially took lessons in-house but then moved out of the country and continued online. She is extremely knowledgeable, reliable and experienced with a real ability to work with students of all levels! I absolutely recommend her to anyone looking for a sincere, gifted teacher who loves sharing music.

I would highly reccomend Esther to anyone pursuing a musical talent. She is an amazing performance artist as well as an music educator who is very passionate about both.
She also gave private lessons to my daughter who was a 5yr student of hers & helped my daughter to become a 3yr concert master of her high school orchestra. I was very impressed by Esther's teaching style & it showed through my daughter's performance. So if you're serious about learning music, you will learn from the best!!!! Hands down!

I have played violin for the past 18 years and received my Bachelor of Arts in Music at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. I am currently a graduate student at Boston University. I think the most important part of violin playing is having fun and enjoying what you do, so I really emphasize this in my teaching. I also think it is important that we use our bodies well and avoid playing related pain, so my teaching focuses on getting players into a comfortable position with their violin. I have taught all ages, and am great teaching in the beginning stages when everything feels new and difficult!

About Marial
I have been teaching violin for the past three years and have experience with a variety of different students. My own background is in classical music, but I also have done clinics and performances in jazz, mariachi, and fiddle. I like to cater to my students and find what music drives them, so I view lessons as a collaborative process between me and you!

I encourage students to not only spend time with their violin practicing, but also finding times away from the instrument that will enhance their playing. My teaching incorporates a lot of mental practice and strategies that make practice time as efficient as possible. This is especially helpful for students who may not have much time for practice in their schedules! Additionally, I am very cognizant of the toll violin can take on our bodies, so I focus a lot on positioning and musculo
skeletal health in my teaching. I have taken five years of Alexander Technique lessons (a movement based therapy), and incorporate aspects of it into my teaching. This ensures a longer and healthier musical career, particularly for those who have prior injuries or those who are susceptible to playing-related pain.

If you have any questions about lessons, please feel free to contact me!

What I look for in musicians is that anyone is able to unlock their potential and become the violinist you desire. I’ve played for 11 years and have taught two years of lessons. The aim is to improve bit by bit, which is necessary, but for the best results. Fun is part of this process, so expect to be productive but enjoy yourself!

About Tyler
I am a violin player for 11 years with vast experience in the music world. I am currently a student at Temple University, studying for my degree in Music Therapy. Music is a passion and I greatly embrace it.

I tend to make music lessons fun for everyone and teaching is something I love! I provide proper feedback and ensure growth in students.

I have participated in many orchestras from grade school up to university. I participated in a music string camp at Florida State University in 2014.

Temple University has another orchestra in which I joined in 2018 called Owlchestra, a community orchestra that performs a concert at the end of term. I greatly enjoy the group and we bond musically and as friends.

I am based in classical music training, but I have small exposure to bluegrass, klezmer and jazz.
