It was apparent in the first lesson that Susanna is an experienced, understanding, thorough, and patient teacher. She carefully covered all the basics: different parts of the violin, proper posture, finger positions, etc., making it easy for our daughter to get started on the violin. She corrected our daughter’s mistakes right away and moved on only when our daughter got a good grasp of the material.

About Olivia

Hello!

I am a second year Master's student at CU Boulder studying Piano Teaching and Performance. I previously lived in Nashville, TN (Music City) - obtaining my Bachelor's Degree in Piano Performance from Belmont University, teaching, and gigging in the city.

I specialize in classical piano, but also teach pop, jazz, and ensemble repertoire. Classical piano lessons (especially for beginners) provide a great foundation for students, even if they decide later on to pursue another musical genre.

My teaching philosophy is that music should be inspiring! I truly believe and have seen first-hand that music lessons have the power to change lives at any age. For me, teaching piano is a way to positively contribute to my local community. I am currently teaching at the Parlando School for the Arts in Boulder and hope to expand my teach

ing studio into the broader community.

Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or reference requests. I look forward to meeting you!

I can't recommend Olivia highly enough! She did an excellent job with my ants-in-his-pants 7-year-old son. She is extremely patient and knows the trick to motivate each student individually. She figured out what "made my son tick", and taught him from that perspective. One thing I especially appreciated was Olivia's ensemble piano efforts with my son and the rest of the students in her studio. They played such a sweet 8-hand piano piece for a recital. It brought down the house! It is a rare teacher that would be willing to take the time to coordinate 4 students and coach them through a song so that they'd be able to perform on a recital.

My experience with Olivia was been outstanding! While I was completing my undergraduate degree, I hired Olivia to perform a few difficult piano movements I had written. Before that point, I did not have much experience writing for piano, but she had incredible insight into making the music more idiomatic for the piano. Additionally, I received piano lessons from her to supplement my college instruction. She was very very patient and her love for the piano was clear through her instruction. I could not recommend her high enough.

About Shelley

I'm a professional singer/teacher residing in New York City with degrees from Indiana State University, and New York University with a specialization in Classical Art Song, Musical Theatre Repertoire, and Vocal Pedagogy.

Every lesson is about YOU. So each week we will take a look at your goals for the lesson, whether you are preparing for college auditions, school talents shows, a desire to work with music theory, or piano skills, this is your opportunity to explore. Everything is possible.

As a professional singer myself, I am constantly auditioning on broadway, off-broadway, and for smaller local and regional theater opportunities. I believe that as a teacher I have to continue to be in the field and learning as the industry continues to change. I have to be aware of the opportunities in this business. I have been hired by pr

ofessional opera and musical theatre companies, in additional to large choral works as a soloist, and have a private studio in Washington Heights.

Prior to NYC I taught middle school choir for 200+ students, of which I received teacher of the year in 2012. I also still hold a valid teaching license in the state of Indiana and currently applying toward my NYS teaching certification.

Within my voice studio I teach in person and online lessons. While online lessons can be beneficial for students wishing to study with me that are not in the immediate vicinity, I recommend in person lessons

I look forward to hearing your beautiful voice and helping you to embrace music!

Shelley is fantastic. She made me feel at ease right away, even though I have no prior singing experience and I was incredibly nervous. As early as my second lesson, I could already hear a difference in my voice when I listened back to the recording of our session! She really knows what she's doing and it shows. I highly recommend Shelley. In addition to being a great music teacher - which she is - she's also so pleasant to work with! She's fast to respond, very accommodating with her schedule, friendly and easygoing, and professional. I started out thinking I'd just take a few weeks' worth of lessons to get out of my comfort zone. Over a year later, I'm still here, and looking forward to every week.

Shelley is by far the best voice teacher I have ever had. Within the short duration of time that I have worked with her, I have noticed that my voice has significantly changed (it feels and sounds better) after using her techniques. She knows what she’s talking about and offers substantial and specific criticism. She individualizes every student, in that she chooses repertoire that benefits a particular voice instead of assuming that every student has the same voice and strengths/weaknesses. This is a very important skill for a voice teacher to have. Shelley is also very good at time management within a lesson. Most importantly, she makes the experience fun! I would highly recommend Shelley to anyone who is looking for a voice teacher! Thank you Shelley!

About Ifadara

I am a professional pianist. I have 2 years of teaching experience along with 7 years of performance experience.
I teach piano to students ages 8 – 35. Beginner piano students will learn about basic techniques and music theory along with how to apply these elements to understanding and playing music. Students can expect to see improvement in their technique each week.
I have been classically trained in piano for 14+ years. Through my teachings, I can help my students excel in sight reading through various exercises. Rudimentary knowledge of music theory such as, scales, chords, ear training and beginner level repertoire will be provided and/or recommended to my students.
My philosophy is to become the best pianist you can be by having fun while learning music. As a pianist, I love playing other genres of music as well. However, I belie

ve in learning the basics of music theory to create a solid foundation in playing every genre of music. As your teacher, I would help you each step of the way to reach your goal and become a better pianist.

"Rich was happy after the first class and he started to wonder, would Kelvin be available to teach him a guitar lessons as well (we thought it is a great
beginning) :)

Also, Kelvin immediately pointed out that the violin we have picked is too small for Rich, where other teacher didn't say anything about it. We changed the size and it helped a lot with holding violin and feeling more comfortable. Thank you !"

"I am about retired and decided to take piano lesson as a hobby last year. I knew nothing about playing piano and music theory. I was lucky to find Doniell
as my piano teacher. She is very patient with me for not knowing anything and explains everything I need to know for that day’s lesson. She is also very flexible to work with me with my work and trip schedules. I have been with her for one year and take half hour lesson each week except when I was out of town, now I am able to play many songs and very happy with my good progress. I definitely recommended her to anyone who is interested in learning piano lessons. You will get satisfactions."

"Elaina has been the perfect instructor for our 11-year-old daughter. She is young enough to relate to a pre-teen but mature enough to have many years unde
r her belt of professional instruction. Our daughter has enjoyed working on the pop songs she likes to sing around the house, and as a mother I'm pleased that Elaina is teaching her the classic building blocks to mastering a healthy voice.

We highly recommend Elaina. She is professional, on time, organized, easy-going and fun."

Songwriting 101: Using the "Long-Line" Concept

By Megan L.

One of the most wonderful and rewarding things about the art of songwriting is that there are many different ways to approach making your own music. Arlington,TX music teacher Ric F. previously shared with us his tips on using rhythm as a guide to writing. Today, Ric would like to add another aspect to your understanding of writing songs, something he calls the "long-line" concept. Unlike visual art where you can see it all at once, music takes “time” to reveal itself. Today I would like …
