Music theory is a fancy term for "how to think about music". If you wish to learn how and why certain music sounds like it does or makes you feel the way it does, we can explore these theories and concepts to develop different strategies to help you reach the next level of artistic expression.
About Richard
Music is my life. Since the age of 16, I have studied the guitar extensively. During my high-school years I was involved in band, marching band, choir, and independent music theory. I started my first band when I was 19 in the U.S. Army, and my life has never been the same since. I played music

My approach to music theory is that it should be learned by doing - being told what an Italian Sixth chord doesn't do you much good if you can't apply it in your own music. To that end, we'll spend time on close listening, sight-singing, dictation, rhythm games, etc., and minimal time with textbooks.

I am a composer, guitarist, arranger, engraver, and songwriter located in Brooklyn. I have taught extensively for the past ten years in a variety of settings, including teaching private guitar lessons at Saint David's School in Manhattan, teaching private composition lessons and TA'ing two electro

Jim was patient, he analyzed how I played , what I knew and he tailored lessons around what I knew. That way I got the most out of my time and money spent. I can go on and on about Jimmy but for you sake I'll just say that I highly recommend him"

I'm taking music theory and composition lessons from Daniel to supplement what I already know from composing by ear. He's an excellent teacher, very enthusiastic about teaching the material, and extremely knowledgable. I feel like I've learned a ton so far and we're not even close to done yet! Highly recommended."

I am a beginner, with usual stage fright and hesitation and did not feel uncomfortable at all."
