Hello, welcome to my studio! I am a cellist located in Lisbon, Portugal. I offer lessons online. Teaching online allows me to keep sharing what I love with my students while I am studying music in Europe. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to send me a message!

With 5 years of teaching experience, Emily is excited to start cello lessons with you! She has performed for dozens of venues across 8 countries and 3 continents. Emily received 12 years of formalized training including 4 years of specialized instruction of the Alexander Technique at The Master's University. Consequently, she brings a comprehensive approach to cello instruction, utilizing knowledge of muscle and joint function to her teaching. Aside from using her talents weekly in a contemporary band setting, she also enjoys ensemble work in other capacities. She has performed in a commercial for the Porsche Panamera, a short film for EMD films, has recorded at Capital Records, and has had the pleasure of being the featured musician at various weddings, business functions, and private events. Emily hopes to not only train up talented musicians, but to also encourage responsibility, perseverance, and enjoyment through music!

Having 10 years of experienced cello teaching, I feel very comfortable helping my students understand the foundations of cello technique. I graduated with a Bachelors of Music from the music conservatory Cleveland Institute of Music, and got my Masters in Music from Northwestern University's Bienen School of Music.

In addition, I completed a 2 year rigorous Suzuki Technique Pedagogy Program where I am now certified to teach all 10 levels of the cello books. I am confident in explaining any questions a student may have. I love to make practicing a game, so that way we are developing the proper skills but also challenging ourselves while having fun! Even I can understand that practicing can get tiresome and dull at times!

As a traveling musician who has performed all over the world, I feel it is important for students to appreciate all types of music. While classical training and technique are absolutely crucial to the beginning stages of a student's development, I like to show ...

I have been studding strings from age 8, starting on violin. I switched over to cello when I turned 13 and received scholarships to potentially attend the University of Pacific in Stockton, CA. I instead studied cello at the University of California, Santa Barbara where I had the opportunity to perform in the university's symphonic orchestra and teach private lessons to college students as well. I have experience teaching from the Suzuki method, but consider myself to be a flexible educator and teach many methods according to the needs of the student.

I’m passionate about music education and I am a full time music teacher and active performer throughout the SE Michigan area. In the summers I teach cello and music improvisation at the Cellochanwoods Cello retreat in Vermont.

Lessons are designed and catered around each student and I believe in a well rounded approach in teaching music. While everyone will learn a solid foundation of note reading and playing technique, lessons also pull from sources such as music theory, ear training, music history, etc.

I hold a Masters in Music Performance from the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, London and a Bachelors in Music Performance from the University of Michigan.
