The most important thing to me is to keep the student interested and engaged in the lessons. This way learning guitar is easy and fun, not a struggle. A great place to start is by learning songs you enjoy listening to. Then later moving on, applying theory and scales to the songs we have learned.

About Sam

Hi! I'm a recent graduate of Berklee College of music where I majored in professional music. This included music theory and guitar instruction, as well as reading and writing music notation and charts in different styles. I also play frequently, including shows at The 9:30 Club, The Howard Theater

Terrible experience. I bought a package of 20 lessons for my 9yo nephew. He looked forward to it ever day from Xmas to the first week of January. Sam canceled the first lesson only 2hours prior its beginning. Then canceled the second lesson 10 minutes before he was supposed to be there because he “forgot” he had a “recording session today”. During the only lesson my nephew had, Sam didn’t show any ability to tailor a lesson to a child. Instead he gave him a pick, which dismayed me, and taught him a rock song we never heard of.
When I contacted the company they were very nice about it but I had to challenge their vetting process of teachers.
Dara
It was an excellent lesson! I really learned a lot from it. I was able to learn one song and start on a second on my first lesson only! Definitely recommend Sam to anyone thinking about picking up the guitar!
Karen ..
Sam is awesome! He listened to my learning objectives and background, he instructs clearly (and kindly), and I’m super stoked for my next lesson.

I believe opera singers have a unique mission in life to bring joy and healing to others thru the power of the great music they sing.

You will receive my holistic approach to Bel Canto, the Italian tradition of beautiful singing. In addition to vocal and breathing exercises that I've designed to simplify and de-mystify classical technique, you'll be given a system of self-study so that you can begin to fully master and own your singing body.

We'll work with diction, languages, arias, vocalizes, interpretation. I speak several languages, and emphasize the importance of words when singing.

We will use piano accompaniment tracks from youtube, or other sources. I do simple piano accompaniments only.

If you are already an advanced singer, I may ask you to invite in and bring your own occasional pianist/accompanis at some of our lessons, as we work on finalizing your opera arias.

About Ahdda

Good opera training prepares you for a long and healthy singing life, and a voice that can sing in a variety of styles. As a holistic Bel Canto opera teacher with 25 years of performing and teaching experience, each student gets my full support and commitment. I work with beginners to seasoned

Ahdda Shur has great breadth of singing and teaching experience; in Opera, Broadway, and classical styles, as well as liturgical chant. Ahdda will guide you in sensitive instruction in the breath, tone production, vowel placement, pronunciation, posture, and stage presence. You will be delighted and transformed working with Ahdda. Her calm sense of wellbeing, and attention to details you had not even considered, will enable you to sing with greater ease and confidence. Singing for Ahdda is fun, and relaxing. She can tell very quickly what needs to happen to improve your voice. I recommend Ahdda to you with confidence that she will transform your voice through proper technique, stage presence, and correct repertoire choices for your voice. Enjoy freedom of production, and increase your confidence on stage, with Ahdda Shur.

Ahdda has worked with my daughter for two years, and is an outstanding teacher. Ahdda focuses not only on how singing should sound, but on how your body should feel and what it should be doing when you sing. She explains this clearly, and the techniques she teaches result in a beautiful sound while ensuring that the singer's voice will remain healthy.
Yanqing
My past voice trainings have a rigid approach so I was following the instructions mechanically. I thought that this is the way to go--until I met Ms.Ahdda. Her "Voga" (voice yoga) focuses on sensations and helps me to trust that my body has the ability to create the right sound. I stopped analyzing the "why"s and am instead remembering the right feelings. My singing skills have improved so much, and I have only been working with Ms. Ahdda for 6 months!

"I could not ask for more in a teacher. Ryan is amazing in every way. He has been teaching my 4 year old son the drums for nearly a year. When my son started lessons, he was actually below the minimum age for students, but he shared a passion for music that Ryan was willing to cultivate and be patient with.

Ryan is versatile in his teaching methods, creative, open, patient. Teaching a young student, Ryan adjusted to teaching music reading fundamentals with colors and shapes. He also figured out ways to correct, critique and build all the while building a young child's confidence.

Ryan provides a written evaluation of our son annually and has him prepare for two public recitals a year. Ryan integrates modern technology into the lessons to quickly provide feedback and create customized beats and tempos to practice to.

Above all, Ryan smiles and laughs. He makes every lesson pleasant and we treasure him, truly."

"I am absolutely delighted to have Nancy as my son’s teacher. My son is a high school student in Hastings on Hudson. He has been studying with Nancy for the past 4 years. We have seen him grow as a singer develop his vocal skills and his confidence, under Nancy’s patient and experienced tutelage. With Nancy, my son has excelled, playing leading roles in his school musical performances and more recently, auditioning successfully for the NYSSMA all state chorus performance in Rochester. We we were lucky to have crossed paths with Nancy. We highly recommend her as a teacher."
