I like to show my students how the guitar can be a small orchestra. The possibilities of sounds and colors that it can provide is unknown to other instruments and that is what makes it so great. Unlike the piano where a small hammer hits the strings or the violin where the bow frictions them, we have to produce the entire sound on the guitar with our own hands. The process is more personal and, even though it can be harsh at times, it is always satisfying. I also try to bring a more creative part of music when studying the instrument, which keeps classes more dynamic and interesting. I bring my own experiences so that the students can relate in different levels of difficulty.

Hiya! I'm Andrew, and I've played guitar for more than half of my life by myself, in bands, and as a session musician in the studio.

I am well versed in songwriting, song structuring, and playing techniques. I have music theory knowledge, though I am mostly self taught. I am well versed in theory as it pertains to the actual function and sound of music. Being self taught, I know how to explain concepts to players in a much more direct and easily followable way, as opposed to what you might find with a person who is academically trained in music.

I also have perfect pitch, so I am great at learning by ear, knowing what feels right when it comes to songwriting, and have an extensive knowledge on chords, tuning, and learning by ear.

I specialize in mainly electric guitar in rock/heavy metal/punk rock, but am also knowledgeable in acoustic guitar. In addition, I am an Audio Engineering major in college, so I have extensive knowledge in recording and mixing music, if that is ...

Dear Students,
I'll do my best to help students understand how to play the guitar and what they want to play, hopefully giving them a lifetime skill that will enrich their lives.

I teach all levels of guitar in the areas of rock, blues and jazz, but I really focus more on the musical skills need to play guitar in any style. These include a thorough chord vocabulary, experience playing rhythm guitar, and a complete progressive study of scales and their use in improvisation (lead guitar) starting with pentatonic scales and progressing to major scales, different forms of minor scales and modes. All scales are learned in multiple positions and the student learns to perform with them in any key. In every lesson the student and I play exercises and study materials together to make actual music from the materials being studied.
