I've been teaching voice lessons since I first started teaching 4 years ago! I've helped singers in all ranges - bass, tenor, alto & soprano - to use their voice as an instrument and refine their singing skills. I've also been singing since I can remember, and I love the personal connection we have with our voice - I also understand how scary & vulnerable it can be to sing & my lesson space is always judgment free. I'm here to help you meet your full potential. In our lessons I will create specific warm-ups & vocal exercises for you, we will learn how to sing any genre of songs, and build on the confidence you will need to be a singer.

In today’s world singers need to know how to perform many styles of music. Many opera singers also sing Broadway and jazz, and all Broadway singers need to sing traditional, jazz, swing, pop, and maybe rock and folk styles. To do this, you need strong physical skills to sing belt, mixed and legit voice. You need strong high, middle and low notes and the ability to sing loud and soft and to modulate from bright to mellow. You need to know your instrument inside and out - how it functions and how to make it work safely, reliably and with good results.

I am unique because of my combined musical and medical backgrounds. In addition to my graduate and undergraduate musical training and extensive musical experience, I was a surgeon and taught anatomy and physiology. Part of my medical training included studying the mechanics of how the body works and its application.

Hi, there!

My name is Sarah-Kate, and I have been teaching vocal lessons for many years. My goal is to make learning fun and productive. I know that singing in front of someone can cause anxiety, so I aim to make my lessons as laid-back and stress-free as possible (while still learning!). I tell my students that their lessons are a "judgement-free zone."

I teach proper singing technique (including breathing, posture, tonality, etc.) and how to read music if the student doesn't already know. The styles I teach run the gamut from pop to musical theater to classical. Especially for younger/beginning students, I like to let them choose what they'd like to sing (while offering guidance if necessary).

I have taught people from age five up through adults. Whether you want to be the next American Idol or just sound better in the shower, I'm your teacher!

With all my students, I emphasize good technique. No matter what genre of music or age of student, singing in a healthful and fun way includes great posture, good breath management, and producing a free and easy sound.I believe that each student has their own unique way of learning, so I tailor my lessons to fit. Immediate feedback and specific practice instructions help my students gain a sense of confidence and assess their progress. Last but not least, singing should be fun!

My teaching method focuses on good breathing, vocal support, forward placement, clear diction, and freedom of sound. This technique has a classical base, but can be applied to a variety of musical styles. In addition to exploring contrasting musical styles such as classical music and musical theatre, students also learn to read music and study basic music theory. Students receive a well-rounded education in vocal technique and good musicianship so they will be able to sing all types of music.
