Have you ever wanted to play an instrument or sing? Do you have a genuine passion for music? My lessons properly prepare students for what is needed to execute their journey as a musician. Lessons will be customized to meet the needs of the students. I have five years of teaching students from ages five to fifty and over twenty years of experience as a musician. Students will learn core music essentials such as music theory, ear training, sight reading, and more. And for songwriters I offer lessons on songwriting and structuring.

You can learn how to jam on the guitar in just a couple lessons by understanding the basic shapes and patterns that make up the instrument. You can learn how to read music or how to play by ear. Lessons are catered to your goals so you see results quickly.

Mat’s goal is to create lesson plans to fit each student’s unique learning style. Whether the student prefers the structure of studying through a book or wants coaching as they explore their own path, Mat will help them develop a strong understanding of the fundamentals of guitar to help them play the music they dream about playing.

I will teach you the formula to find every note on the guitar in the first lesson, also teach you note reading, as it is the fastes way to "learn by ear". We will learn the songs you want to learn, because you will remember chords better if you are learning a song you like.

For beginner students the focus will be primarily on getting you able to play songs from artists you love quickly and enjoyably, with a focus on developing good rhythm, technique, guitar care and a solid foundation of chords that can be used in innumerable songs. Theory will be given in small, easily-digestible pieces, and always within the context of actual musical examples. If you're interested in learning to sing while playing, I'll also help you find ways to incorporate it early on so that it becomes more natural as you progress.

For students with some experience the direction of our lessons will be largely determined by your personal needs and goals, but subjects we might cover include songwriting, finger-picking, expanding chord vocabulary, ...
