Lessons are fun. My philosophy is that students should have music in their lives and benefit from the lessons they take now for years to come. Learning to play a musical instrument will help students with math skills, study habits, and develop a skill that will last for a lifetime.

After 3 months students will understand the fundamentals of their string instrument, know how to care for their instrument, warm up properly, be able to read and play introductory passages. After 6 months the student will have learned basic music theory, how to read music, and have advanced through playing multiple songs.

LisaJo brings more than 40 years of private studio experience to her students.
Steeped with knowledge of music history, theory and composition, LisaJo has a Bachelor of Music Education from Eastern Illinois University, and extensive orchestral-performance experience as a violinist and conductor. During the past 40 years, she has developed her abilities as a diagnostician of obstacles in the musical learning process--both cognitive and physical.
While teaching students from age eight through adult, and enjoying all of them, LisaJo has become a recognized teacher of of the adult beginner and adult restart. She takes a very individualized approach with her students, recognizing technical and emotional components to each individual's learning process.
Although she has studied with teachers from various other violin lineages, her technique is based on the teaching of Carl Flesch and Ivan Galamian.

I have been teaching violin since 1998. I have an earned Masters degree in music and enjoy teaching students of all ages. I am happily married with 5 children at home--4 of them are musicians as well (the youngest is 4).. Students will quickly learn not only the basics of music theory, but will be playing songs as early as their first lesson. It is extremely rewarding watching students have fun, excel, and fall in love with making music. I presently teach music at 3 schools (1 college) and only have a few lessons slots available. I have played the violin since 7th grade- about 9 years ago. The violin is a very soothing and elegant instrument that can make beautiful sounds and can also wake up someone’s attention. I have played in FiestaVal in Tennessee and I did orchestra for two years in middle school. Currently going to college for vocal performance and orchestral performance. I would like to teach those who are interested all that I know about this great instrument, whether it be a beginner, or a returning violin student.

Beginners - We will start with the Essential Elements Book 1, then progress to Suzuki along with selected etudes and scales. Once a solid foundation has been laid down, we will select a piece together that is within your reach but will be a great challenge.

Intermediate/Advanced - You will be given scales, etudes, and a piece of our choice that will play to your strengths and strengthen your weaknesses.
