I want my students to enjoy the arts but the music and acting is hard work. My students will be well rounded in their subjects and have

the opportunity to cross over if they would like.
I pay attention to my students needs and wants. I would like students to be open minded about the work that they are being taught but I also want to take their interests to heart. If a student brings me music or a monologue that they would like to work on, I will review it and try to incorporate it within our studies.

My daughter started a series of lessons with Kristen in preparation of her high school play audition. It was very clear that Kristen is extremely knowledgeable of all technical aspects of singing & able to clearly communicate. My daughter really enjoyed her initial lesson w/ Kristen & is confident that she will be well prepared for her school’s play auditions.

About Jake

I want to teach the material that excites students. After a handful of really crummy experiences with teachers who wanted me to learn a specific way, I stumbled across a music school in Philadelphia and a college in Boston that really got the principle of teaching what students are drawn to. Bruce Springsteen wrote, "we learned more from a three minute record than we ever learned in school." Although I don't agree with that on all occasions, there is something so special about hearing something that makes you tick and going, "ok let me listen to that again, and now let me figure out HOW I can do that myself." As a teacher, I'm flexible, focused, and also love to have fun with music. It's something that makes us excited and alive; there's no use in pursuing something you love if you don't equally enjoy the process of getting great at

it. So let's find what makes YOU excited about music, and let's figure out out to make you great at it.

About Andrew

I have been an active professional musician in the Utah Valley for the past 4 years. I came to Utah from Portland, Oregon in 2011 to study at Brigham Young University under Ray Smith, where I earned a BM in Saxophone Performance in 2018. While there, I performed as a member of the BYU Synthesis Big Band as a performer and featured soloist, sharing the stage with the likes of Gladys Knight, Peter Hollens, Konrad Herwig, Ed Calle, Corey Christianson and others. In 2016 I went with Synthesis on a tour of Eastern Europe, where the band and I performed at the Salkrastu Jazz Festival. I can be heard as a featured soloist on the tracks “Laura” and “Downtime” from the BYU Synthesis Album “Downtime” (2018). On the classical side, I was selected as a finalist three years in a row for the BYU Concerto Competition, played tenor saxophone from 2015 to

2017 in the BYU Wind Symphony, and played principal clarinet in the BYU Symphony orchestra in 2018.

In addition to my performances at BYU, I have performed and collaborated with numerous groups and artists on the Provo and Salt Lake music scenes as both a commercial and studio artist, such as my collaboration with Utah-based vocalist Emily Merrell in her performance at the 2018 Jazz Education Network Conference in Dallas, Texas. I also returned to the northwest in 2015 to take part in the Port Townsend Jazz Festival, where I studied with jazz greats such as Terrell Stafford, Steve Wilson, Bob Mintzer and others.

I am a passionate teacher and am happy to take students of all levels, over Skype or in person.

About Will

Have you ever hoped to learn piano but didn't know where to start? Whether you (or your child) want to learn classical, jazz, pop, gospel or rock, I have experience performing and teaching many different styles of keyboard and piano. I've taught piano for about 8 years to ages ranging from 4 to over 60! It's never too late to start.

I have a master's degree from UT in jazz piano and a bachelor's in classical piano from James Madison University. I've played in a wide variety of bands and ensembles, ranging from pop cover bands to reggae groups, jazz trios and classical ensembles. In addition, I have more than eight years of experience teaching piano to students of all ages, young to old. Whatever style you're hoping to pick, I can help you learn and understand the music you play so that you can really connect with the music.

I focus my l

essons towards what the student wants to accomplish. If you want to learn a song, I will find the music for you or transcribe it from the recording and write an arrangement for you. I also try to give my students an understanding of music so that they can connect more deeply with what they play and make their learning of future music easier.

Victoria was a great instructor for adult classes! I decided to explore taking up piano as a hobby again after not playing for over a decade. She was patient, encouraging, and did an awesome job finding out what my level of understanding was. I'd recommend her as a teacher to anyone.

"This voice coach is a musical genius when it comes to getting the most out of her students. My son never really showed the enthusiasm for singing until Ma
rgo started working with him. In just a few short months, Margo has him singing with confidence and his vocals are off the chart! I give a lot of credit to her techniques and style of teaching. If you or someone you know is looking for a great voice coach, you'll want to employ Margo's services. Even today we call on her to tune up his voice and help him smooth out the rough edges."

"We are so very fortunate to have had Patricia work with our daughter. She was very helpful on many levels. Patricia was able to help my daughter decide
on what roles best suit her. She picked up on her strengths and motivated her to work on her weakness. My daughter was in awe with how much experience Patricia has in Broadway and truly enjoyed working her. Patricia was always prompt and really gave her all in each session. We really enjoyed having her around while working with our daughter.
Thank you Patricia for all your help! Lauren had her audition tonight and she is very confident. We will let you know how she did next week!!"

How to Sing Like Beyonce

By Suzy S.

Beyonce has been the center of pop culture attention lately, following her Inauguration Day performance, and love-it-or-hate-it Super Bowl spectacle. The singer is often praised for her vocal range and powerful sound - but perhaps her most well-known stylistic specialty is her use of melisma - moving between several notes in succession to create a dramatic, "bluesy" effect. The technique is attributed to gospel and jazz music, but has become more mainstream as artists like the late Whitney Houst …
