Bridget is a fantastic teacher. She is easy to understand and very patient. She goes a little to fast so I think she could slow down a bit but otherwise she is a great teacher.

Bridget is an amazing piano teacher. My 9 year old daughter loved that she would help her with pop songs as well as the traditional lesson book. She also helped her with voice audition songs for her musical theater group. We highly recommend!

Private Cello Teacher

I have over 6 years of experience teaching private lessons in addition to teaching seminars on songwriting and music business at Infinity Visual and Performing Arts and SUNY JCC.

I teach both online and in-person lessons at my studio in Nashville and offer 30 and 60 minute lessons.

I have played over 1,000 shows, both solo and as an auxiliary musician for other touring acts. I performed on over 30 albums and have composed for radio, television, and internet video series, including sharing the stage with members of the 10,000 Maniacs. I've been featured in The New York Times, on the CBS Evening News, and on NPR.

While each student is different, I do generally start everyone on either Suzuki or the Essential Elements books.

As one of my old teachers said, “I'm not teaching you how to play cello, I'm teaching you how to teach yourself how to play cello.” This is something I strive for. Students will not only learn technical skills( how to play their instrument, read ...

As a cellist with 18 years of playing experience and 5+ years of teaching I have learned that music can change your life at any age and even can help you heal from whatever struggles life throws at you. Music and learning an instrument can improve your brain functions in a way that no other activity can accomplish. I am so passionate about teaching and customize my teaching style to each student individually because the same approach does not work for everyone. I strongly believe in that and try to get to know my students, who they are, what their strengths and weaknesses are and how I can help to overcome those. I get very involved with my students and build a personal relationship with each one of them to further help them with cello. I've had some wonderful instructors myself including Amir Eldan and Hans Jensen who taught me not only how to play the instrument itself but also how to use those skills that come with being a musician in life.

My approach to teaching the cello incorporates mindfulness, body awareness, and deliberate practice, and I strongly believe in simplifying technique and practice methods, and leading you to your own discoveries rather than just telling you what to do. In order to reach your potential as a cellist, you need to train both the body and the mind. I am a strong believer in mental practice and being able to hear the sound you want before you play - however, this is only half the battle; you also want to set yourself up for success by training your body to feel comfortable and relaxed while still maintaining structure. I have studied with the top cello pedagogues in the world, including Hans Jensen, Richard Aaron, Ralph Kirshbaum, Desmond Hoebig, and Frans Helmerson to name a few. The methods I’ve learned and developed on my own can be taught from the very beginning of a cellist’s journey, and I can’t wait to share them with you!

About Lukas

I am a soloist, recitalist, and chamber musician and have performed all over the US and Europe. I am a recent graduate of the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University, and am currently pursuing my masters degree at the University of Southern California. Lukas was incredibly helpful as a teacher because it's clear that he's spent so much time over the last several years thinking about how the cello works and how to constantly be improving as a player. Lukas knows the best exercises to help solve whatever problems you may have as a player, and he has the real-world experience to back it up. I was particularly impressed by his ability to break down exactly what goes into creating a beautiful tone on the cello. He made me see my own technique differently and opened my eyes to aspects of cello playing that I had never thought of before. But most importantly, Lukas is a great teacher because he leads you to your own solutions. He won't just give you the answer to a specific passage of music, he will give you the tools to level up as a player, which you can then apply to anything you play. I would highly recommend taking lessons with Lukas Goodman.
Sam
Lukas has been a peer/colleague of mine for the past 6 years. As a conservatory student myself, I have often turned to Lukas for insight and help on various struggles I face as a cellist. As a cellist and technician, he has profound understanding of the fundamental concepts of playing the cello, whilst maintaining the ability to break things down in a simple and concise fashion. As an artist and musician, he constantly challenges himself for deeper expertise in so many facets of the art – both technically and musically.

Lukas has a clever sense of humor, is very bright, and void of arrogance (which I experienced so many times from teachers when I started out). I am certain he would provide a student of any level and goal with an adaptive, forward-focused approach. I cannot thank Lukas enough for the amount he has helped me, and I am certain he can do the same for so many others

"Victor has the rare ability to both inspire and equip a budding musician. Often, a teachers may be enthusiastic but may lack in practical, effective techniques to enable a student to truly excell. There are also the cases in which an instructor has excellent info to share, but lacks the spark and fun needed for a child to truly benefit. Victor has both. He took our frustrated daughter who was convinced she could not do this thing called cello, and gave her both the tools to succeed and the drive to work. As a former music educator myself, I recommend him with my highest regards."

"Nader has taught cello to my 10 year old son, Caleb for the last 2 years. During in this time, Caleb has made amazing progress. Nader challenges Caleb in a way that builds excitement for music and confidence to excel at his instrument. I can imagine that music lessons and practice can become a chore, but Nader's patience, positive attitude, enthusiasm, and method of teaching keeps Caleb engaged and excited to play the cello. Caleb has truly benefited from the way that Nader engages him each and every time they meet. Nader is a very good listener so that Caleb always feels heard. His questions and concerns are addressed. I give Nader my highest recommendation not only because Caleb has made such good progress, but also because Nader has made the cello very rewarding and enjoyable for Caleb."

My daughter has enjoyed playing the cello, in large, part due to Dr. Leonard's teaching style which is intellectually stimulating, humorous, inspiring, and caring. She is a relatable to my teenager. We have never thought of moving to a new teacher because Dr. Leonard always brings something new to the table in her lessons."

"I've been working with Nazar since 1998. Not only does he know his stuff and makes his teaching personal to your needs, but he also has a way to make you feel successful even when you are struggling. you always feel better about your playing when you leave than when you got to his studio. He recognizes your learning style and what you want to accomplish, then builds his teaching around that.

If you are looking for a cello teacher (and yes, he also teaches piano and other instruments) I'd say put your time and money into Nazar and you, you will feel it is one of your best investments"

What is a Yamaha Cello? A Detailed Look for Cello Students

Who made your cello? Who carved the body, stained, varnished, and assembled the instrument, including the label visible through the f-hole which bears their signature? Many musicians consider the maker of their instrument, or luthier, a point of pride. There are famous luthiers, like Stradivari and Guarneri, whose names are synonymous with masterpieces of craftsmanship. These masters innovated many of the standards for modern stringed instruments, and so many luthiers might include on the la …
