Hi, my name is Gabriel and I'm a violinist currently serving as Assistant Concertmaster of the Annapolis Symphony, Principal Violin II of the York Symphony, and a section violinist in the Harrisburg Symphony. In addition to extensive orchestral experience, I am looking forward to performing as soloist in an upcoming concert with the York Symphony, and I have given numerous chamber music performances and other small recitals.

My musical education was completed at the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University, where I received three music performance degrees: BM, MM, and GPD. I was awarded top merit scholarships for all of my studies there, and I received the first prize in the undergraduate violin competition.

With my expansive experience as a violinist in various genres/settings and my three years of teaching experience, I provide my students with a well-rounded and unique take on learning the violin. While I often start with classical music to get the students familiar with note reading, fundamental playing techniques, and basic music theory, I do take the time to get to know the students and their musical interests - thus tailoring my curriculum and repertoire choices towards the students' interests and goals. A specialty of mine is arranging pieces and songs from various genres for the violin based on the student's preferences and level of playing.

As a board-certified music therapist with a passion for mental health and well-being, another goal of mine is helping students develop a sense of self-compassion and patience as they learn their instrument and run into many bumps and blocks throughout their musical journey. I am a professional violinist and violist in the Boston area. I am a graduate of the New England Conservatory where I have studied with Miriam Fried, Donald Weilerstein, and Martha Katz. I have performed extensively throughout my life as a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral player on both the violin and viola in a variety of professional ensembles including substitute viola work with the Borromeo String Quartet. I draw from this performing background to teach my students of all ages and abilities.

I currently act as Adjunct Instructor of Violin and Viola at Merrimack College, where I serve as a primary instrumental teacher to enrolled students. I have also acted as the primary violin teacher for Main Street Music, LLC, in Waltham. Additionally, I run a private studio of 5-10 students as young as 6 and as old as 60. Of these, some never touched an instrument before our first lesson, and some are serious conservatory-bound musicians intending to make a career as a performer.

First and foremost, it is so important for me to get to know you and your musical interests (favorite songs, artists or bands). Once I know a little bit more about you and where your musical interests are, I help you build goals based on what you’d like to accomplish...that could be anything from “just wanting to learn something new and to have fun” to “playing my sister’s favorite song at her wedding in 3 months” or “to join an orchestra and make it my professional goal”. My style of teaching over the last 25 years incorporates technique, reading music, ear training, and improvisation. In addition to the violin, I teach viola, cello and piano/keyboard. The genres I love to teach are classical, rock, pop, jazz, film/tv music, and fiddle!
