Elizabeth is a phenomenal instructor! Both kind and patient, she is incredibly knowledgeable and takes the time to help me understand the nuances of technique or the background of a particular piece of music. I'm nowhere near a natural player, but her approach to structuring my lessons and practice activities fits my needs as a learner, especially considering that I am an adult student juggling a myriad of other responsibilities. Elizabeth is adept at tailoring her lessons and long-term approach to my growth as a player to my skills and challenges, so that I not only immensely enjoy the experience, but also feel the growth I am making each and every week. She's the best I've ever had!!
As a Teacher-Consultant for the Wayne State University branch of the National Writing Project, I am able to remain current regarding best-practices in the teaching of reading and writing. Add to this my passion for writing, and you have a winning combination!
I am a veteran teacher with ample experience working with children and adults in an online format. I hold a BA in English and a MA in Teaching. I am a Teacher-Consultant with the National Writing Project.
If you are a beginner interested in pursuing fiction or non-fiction writing as a hobby or career or if you are someone who is needing help with working ideas for a class, I can help! Also, I help individuals with editing and revising as well as with developing ideas from scratch or further develop ones an individual already has in mind! I do not look to contribute anything directly to your work (unless desired). Instead, I help with processing ideas and with creating an outline to help you structure your work. Further, I help individuals with creating and developing their 'writing voice.' Throughout the process, I gently provide objective feedback and discuss where improvements should be made. I understand that inspiration is a precious thing that must be incessantly nurtured; therefore, I also help with maintaining good momentum.
I am been inspired by and influenced by various writers of fiction and nonfiction, including Carl Jung, Aldous Huxley,Ernest Hemingway, Kurt Vonnegut, ...
*In order to avoid an awkward schedule, I have limited my availability to a few evenings during the week. However, I am open to working another time that may work best for you.*
I have experience working with people individually and in groups, as an undergrad Psychology intern, a cognitive skills trainer, a counseling student, an adjunct instructor and an academic coach. As an undergrad intern, I worked with elementary school children as a tutor and a mentor. As a counseling student, I have worked with various populations, from grade school students (grades 4-8; making healthier choices) to adults (stress, anxiety, career decisions, bereavement, etc.) to older adults in hospice care. I have facilitated psycho-educational groups with individuals suffering from a mental illness as well. Lastly, I worked with college students at a local u
niversity as an academic coach. In this role, I helped students process concerns and create goals regarding developing time management skills, coping strategies for anxiety, study skills, information processing and motivation. These experiences have helped me gain a continually growing understanding of facilitating the learning process with individuals and with groups.
I teach student development classes (critical thinking, motivation theory, study strategies, time management, stress management, etc.) at a local community college, I teach an upper-level educational psychology course (views of learning, motivation, the memory process, memory strategies, critical issues in education, etc.) at a local university, and I work as an academic coach at another local university.
As the information above may suggest, I hold education to such a high, passionate regard. It is what promotes a healthy, well-informed society. As an auto-didactic learner, I believe that everyone has the ability to learn anything one desires. It is a matter of how one approaches it. Therefore, my approach is one that is peculiar to each of the individuals I work with.
I present concepts with the idea that the combination of experience, discourse, and meaning-making is the key to learning. This aside from my teaching tools based on the views of learning. With an aversion towards cookie-cutter approaches, I maintain an open mind to my invariably evolving approach of sharing knowledge and insight with others. This comes with my continual seeking of growth in the art of teaching with consideration of the process of learning. Further, I strive to create a warm, positive atmosphere that allows one to feel comfortable with making mistakes, with making progress and with being themselves. Fundamentally, this is my approach to working with people.
PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT COACHING: Using my insight gained as a counseling student, I am happy to offer my personal development coaching service. In this role, I help individuals develop their path of change, making sure motivation and focus is well-maintained. I provide a judgment-free and understanding atmosphere for one to reflect and process concerns as well as work towards making personal changes (e.g. self-actualization, career, anxiety management, lifestyle, life changes) from an existential perspective. I believe that such a space should be available for everyone, so I am especially happy to provide it.
My approach to personal development coaching is based on my therapeutic orientation called Gestalt Therapy (GT). The underlying idea of GT is that awareness is the key initiator of change. Awareness allows one to discern where such things as anxiety, unhappiness, ambivalence, etc. stem from. I believe that it is important for every human being to go through such a process so that peace and awareness within brings peace and awareness to the outer world. I am inspired by and influenced by the ideas of Carl Jung (Analytical Psychology- particularly the Psychological Types) and Carl Rogers (Client-Centered Therapy). I help facilitate the process in a genuinely humane, empathic and professional manner. If interested, please, see the details I have provided under Life Coaching. I work with grade school students and adults. I am absolutely loyal to the idea of confidentiality; therefore, I ensure that information of anybody I work with is not at risk of being shared with a third party.
ACADEMIC COACHING/STUDY SKILLS: Using my passion for education and my insight gained in my few years (so far) immersed in the world of education, I help students (grade school and college) develop areas of their academic life needing improvement. As suggested above, I help students develop time management, learning strategies, coping strategies for anxiety, and motivation (i.e. help them to see the value of learning). Though it is a valuable tool, it is presently not a service that is offered at most schools in the area.
WRITING: As a lover of reading and writing, I understand the value of expressing thoughts, feelings and ideas. As a writer, my focus is on creative writing (mostly short stories presently) and essays. Given my undergraduate and postgraduate experiences, I have written many academic papers, in APA format and in MLA format. I edit and revise papers as well as help individuals develop their writing voice, develop their ideas, develop an approach to structuring writing, maintain consistency with writing and provide genuine feedback. Beyond that, my help with writing is limited to the goals of the the individual.
TWO IMPORTANT THINGS: I strive to maintain a positive collaboration with those I work with. I believe this is one of the most important parts of the process. Also, I promote the idea of Soul. To me, Soul is any sincere display of passion. With Soul, we perform in a most genuine and graceful way. I personally believe that whether one is playing the piano, writing a story, living life, singing, giving a speech or anything (necessarily peaceful), one should do it with Soul.
LASTLY, I am open to: Going beyond my travel radius, at an agreed-upon adjusted rate; working with multiple students, at an agreed-upon adjusted rate; meeting at a public place that is convenient, if it is preferred; and meeting at a student's location, depending on the preferred time and the distance.
I mentioned everything that is above so that it may be known and understood. Feel free to send me a message if you have questions about any of the services I provide, my approach or anything!
Together with supplementary books, materials, and free-association, I guide the student through his or her own mental process to facilitate the expression of an idea; concept or theses. In addition to assigning homework or improvements for the student to work on his/her own piece offline, I help him/her revisit the manuscript with fresh eyes and rework the draft into a presentable, well reasoned document. In the case of a scholarly work, I help with the appropriate form for citations and asterisks. Lessons of one hour to 90 minutes in length are recommended.
About Tamari (Tamara)
Hi, there! I'm Tamara and I can't wait to meet you!
On social media and for those who are more familiar, I'm Tamari. We all learn in different ways; some are more visual; others, auditory; some, kinesthetic--I combine a number of different modalities in my teaching, including direct feedback-teaching--once you learn a concept or skill, teach it, as soon as you possibly can, to someone else! -- this reinforces your own knowledge of the skill or concept! I've been teaching private lessons for many years and have loved helping my students acquire new skills, master new pieces, and prepare for concerts and performances. Over the years, my younger students have earned Blue and Gold ratings at the Young Musicians' Festival in Fairfield U., some of them earning gold cups: This is a statewide event to encourage long-term commitment
to the art, discipline and joy of music making. I attended Indiana University's distinguished Jacob School of Music where I earned a Masters in Piano Performance, and Composition in the '90's. I sang all types of vocal music as well as prepared singers with vocal coaching and voice development techniques 20+ years. I'm fun loving, patient, and optimistic-- these traits carry through in my teaching style, One Size does NOT fit all--I approach the lesson plans for each student tailored to your learning style. Over the past 23 years, my life experiences have encompassed other disciplines and compelled me to learn and acquire many other skills: my liberal arts as well as fine arts education lent itself to helping me work administrative jobs and even expanded into sales and public speaking. I have coached after school and SAT preparation to High School and College age students, helped with the preparation of legal and analytical documents, creative writing and editing assignments; and even tutored computer, social media and Microsoft Office & iWork Suite of applications to older adults. Within the 10 most recent years, I served as Music Director in Catholic, Methodist, Presbyterian and Lutheran Churches, as it is my firm conviction that Music is a universal language which can help deepen the prayer experience while helping to bring comfort and joy.
I have known Tamari professionally for fifteen years.
She is an excellent music teacher for piano and voice. Her expertise is noticeable as she patiently meets her student at his/her level and guides that student to the next step.
The process is perfect for any student, even if developmentally challenged and for any age. I highly recommend Tamari.

I've been consistent weekly taking yoga lessons from Tamari at the Y in Canaan CT. I try not to miss it. She's a compassionate and caring yoga teacher and will trailer her classes to fit your needs. Her classes are good for newbies and seniors and those who want a simple class. No athletics. Hatha Yoga are basic yoga stretches that will make you feel good after participating . My aches and pains are gone after each session. To be continued....

Tamara is a very highly qualified, and extremely capable musician and instructor. While away on a leave from my position as music director at a local church, Tamara planned and provided the music for services, and led the congregation's music programs in my absence. While I was away, it was a great comfort to know that Tamara provided quality music for each service. In addition to demonstrating an extraordinary level of musicianship, Tamara is a dependable, and dedicated professional. I am pleased to provide my strongest recommendation!
At an early age I discovered a passion for writing and as I got older that passion only grew. In college, as a writing major I was able to take writing classes in many different genres. In my lessons whether your goal is to find that passion for writing, improve your skills, or even just receive help with class assignments I would be honored and more than happy to help. I have experience with writing workshops and tutoring. I will base my classes on your needs, ability and writing goals. Whether you need help organizing a piece, expanding your vocabulary, learning how to correctly format a piece based on genre and topic, or anything else, I will do my best to help you.
Hello! My name is Samantha, I have a Bachelor of Arts degree from Ithaca College and a TESOL certification. I received my B.A in Creative writing and am a strong supporter of using writing as a tool for self expression. I have taught over 1000 ESL classes! I really enjoy helping students realize that learning can be fun and inspiring them to continue on their path through the English language. My lessons will be fun, exciting and specific to your child's learning needs, goals and personal interests. In my classroom students can expect a positive, uplifting and encouraging learning environment. My teaching philosophy is that students learn best when they feel a connection to the material and so I will build my classes based on a student's interests, this way the student will be motivated to learn and see a relationship between what they le
arn and their lives. I also believe in positive encouragement and correction, we learn from our mistakes and I think it is important to highlight the growing process in learning. In my classroom I notice and appreciate effort and will pay attention to my students' journey and make sure they see their own progress and feel pride in their accomplishments and growth. Whether you want to improve your skills in writing, reading, or speaking, expand your vocabulary or improve communication skills through casual conversation, I am more than happy to help.
I have a bachelor's degree in Applied Linguistics with a minor in Psychology. I graduated summa cum laude with a 3.85 GPA. I also have special teaching licenses in TEFL and TESOL. I have been tutoring for 10+ years all grade levels and subjects, Mathematics, Sciences, Social Studies, and Language Arts. In my experience, no two students are alike, and I'm able to identify unique needs, to help each student progress. Students find me patient, kind and fun to work with. Regarding ESL tutoring, I have a deep understanding of the science and research behind the way English as a second language is learned. I also train teachers on state-adopted ESL materials, so I have access to great resources. I love technology and enjoy using it as a tool for my work. I'm flexible and can adapt to the way each individual student learns best.

My greatest passion in life is teaching. I was born and raised in New Jersey, and experienced great success in my academics, due to amazing and unforgettable teachers. This is the foundation of my commitment to helping out my students, whatever their abilities may be. I have been tutoring and teaching for over 10 years in various settings — tutoring small and large groups, private individual tutoring, and teaching in rural, suburban, and urban classrooms and home settings. I have a bachelor's degree in Applied Linguistics with a minor in Psychology. I also have special teaching licenses in TEFL and TESOL. In my experience, no two students are alike, and I'm able to quickly identify unique needs, to help each student progress quickly! Students find me patient, kind and fun to work with. Regarding ESL tutoring, I have a deep understandin
g of the science and research behind the way English as a second language is learned. I'm flexible and can adapt quickly to the way each individual student learns best. Education has given me the opportunity to find what I am passionate about, and I hope to help others gain that same opportunity through tutoring.
I love writing and learning different languages. Writing has been something that helps me de-stress and challenges me to always articulate my thoughts clearly. I have helped high school students on essay assignments, creative writing, and on college essays that eventually helped a couple of them get into their dream schools. If you simply want to improve, I would have prompts and other materials that could help you achieve your goal.
Hi there! I am majoring in mathematical and computational biology at Harvey Mudd College. I love studying the sciences because it's exciting to learn how things work and to logic things out. I love working with others - I have been tutoring students (ranging from elementary school to high school) on various school subjects for about 6 years now.
Music is another huge part of my life: I have been playing the piano for 14 years and the violin for 8 years now. I am currently a violinist in the Pomona College Orchestra. In 2014, I was invited to perform at Carnegie Hall after my participation in the American Fine Arts Festival. In high school, I placed either first or second on solo, duet, and ensemble competitions in various competitions held at places such as Diamond Bar High School and Chapman University. Through these activities, I prac
ticed on persistence and patience. Teaching experience wise, I have taught piano for 3 years before.
Additionally, I enjoy actively participating in my community. In high school, I was really involved in the American Red Cross and Key Club. In college, I am still finding joy in volunteering in different organizations on campus. I also enjoy other activities such as reading, meditation, theater, tennis, rock climbing, and ballroom.
I work with people according to their personality and the way that they learn best. If I were given the opportunity to tutor your student, I would make sure everything is clearly explained because I hate memorizing.
Sophia worked with my daughter during her Junior year of high school. My daughter was really struggling to understand the material and Sophia was a huge help. Sophia broke the lessons down and was able to instruct my daughter in a way that she could comprehend. Her grade improved by one letter which was wonderful. We truly appreciated Sophia's help.
I have been teaching and tutoring writing for over 10 years. I bring a unique, interdisciplinary perspective to the table because I have taught academic writing across the disciplines in the social sciences and humanities. I have also collaboratively taught writing intensive seminars with engineering faculty. In addition, my current writing project is a historical fiction manuscript based on my dissertation research on the Reformation era.
I enjoy working with students from middle school age through adults of all ages. My previous students have ranged from adults returning to school after many years in the workforce, to high school and middle school students who were seeking mentorship in academic and creative writing, to adults working on writing their dissertations. In my lessons, I work with you to help create a learning environment that is suited to your unique needs.
In addition to my writing background, I also have professional theatre experience, which I build on when I ...
I have been a professional Writing Consultant, Editor, and professor for over ten years. My training in writing consulting began at Oberlin College, where I worked in my first university writing center and studied teaching and tutoring across the disciplines. I then went on to apply my training in teaching writing across the disciplines through my teaching in the disciplines of history, religious studies, political science, and university writing programs. I have a Ph.D. in International Studies from the University of Denver. I am also a writer of historical fiction (my blog is available at historicalfictionfornow.wordpress.com). Finally, I also bring professional theatre experience to the table, with a focus on Shakespeare.
Writing students can expect to learn practical strategies and tools to help them become stronger writers. Throug
h lessons, students will learn not only the tools that will help them develop strong language, reasoning, and organization skills, but they will also learn to trust their own writer's voice. Good writing is about craft, persistence, attention to each stage of the process, and being authentic to one's own ideas.
Shakeaspearean theatre/acting students can expect to work on deep analysis of Shakespeare's texts. By starting with the language itself-- both the words, as well as their rhythm and structure--students will learn techniques that will help them delve deeply into character work and the historical context, while also finding ways to deliver their lines naturally.
I enjoy working with students of all ages, starting with high school students and moving through adults of all ages. Here are some examples of the types of writing and students I have worked with previously:
-High school students planning their college essays or preparing for the SAT or ACT (I was previously an SAT exam rater); -High school and college students seeking support to become stronger writers in their academic classes; -Adults in career transitions: I've helped with job searches, focusing on cover letters and resumes, graduate school applications, and writing assignments in graduate classes as students who have been in the workforce for a long time get re-acquainted with academic work; -Graduate students working on their dissertations, from the earlier phases of their literature reviews to the final revisions before they finish their degrees; -Creative writing coaching and mentoring for high school students seeking individual support
Of the different instructors I have collaborated with, Sarah is by far one of the instructors who has most consciously worked to make sure that her course design met the goals and learning outcomes of the curricula. From the first day I met her, she already had a syllabus design that met any suggestions I might make from my previous years' experience teaching courses in our program. I know she worked actively with others in the program in designing her materials, and she took all their comments to heart, building her syllabus around their recommendations for achieving learning outcomes.
In addition to creating assignments that clearly and usefully supported the goals of the program, Sarah incorporated the community contributions elements of the program, as well. She invited speakers from the campus community and the broader community. The students responded positively to all of these speakers, and they actively incorporated the ideas they learned from them in their work for the course.
The students' final presentations are the best indication of how successful Sarah's course was. The students were asked to use their academic research paper to create a policy paper or deliverable to a stakeholder of the students' choosing. The students created such fantastic presentations, that some of them could perhaps have been sent to the intended stakeholder--if we had the right contacts--with only minor revisions. The final presentations indicated that they achieved the learning outcomes of the course.

Sarah was very patient and gave constructive advice during our lessons. She also does her research regarding the topic or subject you are writing on before the lesson.

Thanks to Sarah's help with my high school daughter's writing, my daughter achieved major milestones in her work as a creative writer. Sarah helped my daughter learn how to write in genres she never had before (poetry, short stories, and drama) and to have more confidence in her ability as a writer and a person. Also, whenever I wrote Sarah with questions about her sessions with my daughter, she always took time to write thoughtful responses that showed how much she cared about my daughter's growth.
"As an adult student who has struggled with creative writing, Larry has been instrumental in opening a whole new world of self expression for me. I highly
recommend him for any student who wishes to either grasp fundamental skills or for the one who simply wishes to polish their own.
Additionally Larry has been able to introduce me to Shakespeare, a life long interest of mine... one which has always frustrated me do to my lack of understanding, in a non threatening, non stressful way.
Thank you Larry."

A good story needs to be strong from the first line through the final page. It's all too easy to start strong with a great hook and an interesting set of characters, but then lose momentum along the way and stop short at the end. This can be tough for budding wordsmiths of all ages - so how can you encourage your kids and help them understand the writing techniques involved? Here are some tips for parents and private writing tutors alike...
Read and discuss great literature
