David picked up the guitar when he moved from his hometown of Phoenix, Arizona in 2001 at the age of 19 and hasn't looked back since. 7 years and countless hours of practicing, performing and teaching later, David plays at multiple venues in the Kansas City area while teaching from his studio at Guitar Source in Overland Park,, Southland Conservatory in Raymore, and in home tutoring service Mobile Music Teachers. David also teaches and records from his home studio in Raytown, MO where he offers lessons for home schoolers during the daytime hours.
As a guitarist David is motivated primarily by his passion for music. Growing up he was influenced by classical, jazz, and film scores. Since picking up the guitar he has been inspired by guitarists from such diverse backgrounds as Eric Johnson,
Robben Ford, Pat Martino, Pat Metheny, Martin Taylor, and James Taylor, to name a few. Today David plays and teaches a variety of different styles, ranging from rock and blues to classical and jazz.
David started to play the piano after years of playing the guitar. Although a second instrument, it in many ways it was the first as everything David has aspired to on the guitar is pianistic, and he draws much of his inspiration on the instrument from piano players. Correspondingly, it wasn't long before David picked up the piano itself, studying privately first with Tatev Amir and later with Karen, Kushner, Professor of Piano Studies at UMKC. David applies many of the same principles to the piano that he does the guitar including stressing a comprehensive knowledge of music theory, self transcription, ear training and classical technique as well as the more traditional facets of piano pedagogy such as sight reading and rhythm work. Students learn music theory as applied to the keyboard, sight-reading, improvisation and the application of classical technique to modern styles.
As a pianist David is motivated primarily by his passion for music. Growing up he was influenced by classical, jazz, and film scores. Since picking up the piano he has been inspired by pianists from such diverse backgrounds as Art Tatum, Nicolai Lugansky, Oscar Peterson, and Bill Evans among others. Today David plays and teaches a variety of different styles, ranging from rock and blues to classical and jazz.
*** Lesson Details *** I have extensive experience with all ages and skill levels. I use a curriculum specifically geared towards the guitar, as opposed to more traditional (and inferior) methods that emphasize note reading and piano pedagogy, my method will teach you music theory as it relates to the neck of the guitar and the music that the student are interested in. I am a fairly laid back teacher; we will go at your pace, but I do expect you to work hard.
With piano I use classical literature to develop technique but emphasize the development of a comprehensive understanding of music theory as applied to the keyboard. This includes but is not limited to studies in pop, rock, jazz and other style of contemporary piano.
*** Studio Equipment *** #1) Dedicated music room seating for parents
#2) Practice/rehearsal room seating for parents
#3) Amplification provided and music stand.
#4) Keyboard/Piano for student use
#5) Broadband network, dual camera, file sharing and the latest technology utilized for online lessons.
*** Travel Equipment *** I provide a music stand, my instrument, curriculum materials, music paper materials and amplification (if needed). I expect the student to have their own instrument and potentially amplification. I provide a piano for instruction but I expect my students to have a piano or keyboard for practice at home.
*** Specialties *** I specialize in classical and jazz guitar, however I am fluent in most styles, including rock, blues, fingerstyle, and miscellaneous. I teach from Jay EuDaly's "Vertical Truth: Chordal Mechanisms for the Guitar" but I also supplement this with a variety of other curriculum.
In piano I specialize in classical piano as well as jazz and pop.
Our lessons will be both encouraging and productive, but most importantly, will foster a love and understanding of music. Curriculum is individualized based on the student’s musical interests. Students will learn songs they love to play while also developing proper technique and important musical skills like sight-reading, a solid understanding of rhythm, music theory, and ear training. We will work together to help you achieve your goals and gain a well-rounded music education, regardless of age or musical background.
I believe that the most important aspect of teaching music is creating a positive and individualized learning environment while simultaneously teaching the necessary technique and knowledge to play your instrument both successfully and confidently.
Above all, our lessons will focus on reaching your musical potential. Curriculum for our lessons will draw from variety of methods and aspects of music education. These include music theory, ear training, sight-reading, body mapping, technique, improvisation skills, arranging, and composition. I have experience as a performer and as a teacher,i have been a full time musician for my entire adult life.Ive been on tour all over the country,Ive taught students from age 3-83.This experience allows me to take my students in whatever direction they want to go. Some of my past students have been concerned that they may not be talented enough to reach there goals on the instrument and Im happy to say a lot of them were shocked at what they are capable of and have even exceeded their goals at times.
I teach Guitar,Bass, and Piano,I can guide you with a practical method that allows you to grow progressively based on your natural skill set, needs, and interest

I have two sons that have been taking lessons with Jordan for 10 months. He is teaching both my sons, one the guitar and the other piano. I have used one previous instructor from takelessons.com for piano lessons and he was good. However, Jordan does not constantly reschedule lessons and I can see more progress in how fast my son is learning and his enthusiasm to learn. I am happy I switched my son who plays the piano to Jordan, whom was already teaching my other son guitar.
Jordan, is good at assessing a student’s abilities and interests and adjusting his lessons accordingly
He makes the lessons fun and challenging.
He has gone out of his way to learn about my sons and their interests, so when they were introduced to guitar and piano, they were able to learn and play music that they already enjoyed listening to
He is a gifted musician but also highly skilled at teaching. He works well with families and has a flexible schedule.
He is fair but firm with students
The highlight for me was hearing my sons have a jam session together
Jordan has a wonderful ability to relate to people. He has excellent skill and enthusiasm, making my sons WANT to learn.
I would highly recommend him as a teacher.

Jordan is amazing, he can just learn a song by ear the first time he hears it, I’ve been working with him for a little over a year and I never thought I’d be able to do that, but my ear has really started to develop. He always offers positive critique, never negative and always patient!!

Jordan is a good teacher. Talented. Patient. Smart.
My daughter responded well to him.

Claire is so awesome! I actually took some songwriting lessons from her also, and I was more motivated to do the work than I have been in years. I found Claire to be kind, easy to work with, encouraging, and a complete delight. Her insights made all the difference to me. As an adult student and a music teacher myself, I fully recommend Claire for anything related to music. She is a true gem.

"Incredible and knowledgeable guitar instructor!
I just realized how important to have a teacher right in front me to guide and correct my fingers when
I had my 1st class with Stephen. Just like everybody else, I took the online lessons for few months with other teacher and also learned from Youtube on my own in the last two years. I can play but I knew I was missing something.
He really brought me to the next level."
"I'm writing this because honestly, I would not be where i am today without the guidance and teachings of Paul. His ability to bridge the gap between techn

"I took guitar classes from Greg for about 8 years, bass lessons for about a year, and drum lessons for about a year, and eventually worked with him as an
instructor as well; I'll let you know that you will be very hard-pressed to find a better teacher than Greg - he takes the time to really delve deep into all your lessons and give you the best experience, as well as wonderful material to work with, in order to help you fully reach your potential as a musician. On top of that, he really gets to know you and caters to your style of learning, and helps you recognize your strengths and weaknesses, overall making your learning experience the most fruitful it can be. Besides, he makes the learning fun! I highly recommend and respect Greg as a musician and an instructor."
