In my time of need (I had a B- average), I was fortunate enough to receive Varna's tutoring support. Varna is clear ("Do this"), firm ("Don't do that") , AND exceptionally kind ("You can do this!") in her approach. Thanks to Varna, I was able to get an A+ in both Calculus 1 and Calculus 2. You are the best Varna, thank you!!!

As a student, I studied physics and chemistry in high school, and earned a 5's on all four of my AP exams for math and science.
In college, I continued in the Physics Department at USC and completed calculus-based physics coursework in: particle mechanics & dynamics, electricity & magnetism, thermodynamics (oh boy!), and statics. This was in tandem with corresponding coursework in General and Organic Chemistry, Geochemistry, Calculus, Linear Algebra and Differential Equations and Statistics

I have nearly 10 years experience tutoring math, physics and chemistry, for students both in high school and university courses. Whether you just want to get through your course with a "good" grade or you want to create a *solid* foundation for continued education in engineering/sciences, I can help you to achieve your goals!

About Erin
I carry an enthusiasm for knowledge and "nerdy" subjects like mathematics and science! I believe in the power of positive reinforcement and aim to foster not only knowledge, but also confidence. Lessons are individualized for the student and their goal grade/test score. I am passionate about education and the development of growing minds, and it shows in my sessions.

My assistance doesn't stop just because the lesson is over. I make myself available to students (via email) for as-needed homework and study-related questions.

I have nearly 10 years experience working as an educator.
I am honored to work with students throughout the year, for long-term results, but am also happy to assist with short-term needs such as midterm/final exam preparation.

Also available for:
College admissions consulting -- Let me help your family nav
igate this complex process. I can assist with choosing programs and schools, tailoring applications to each recipient school, and generally putting together the strongest possible application packet.

Erin was very caring, articulate, thorough and responsive. She tested my daughter's knowledge by assigning her problems to do prior to their sessions. As a result, she was able to get 100% on all of her home/class work.

Finding a good physics teacher/tutor, for some odd reason, is perhaps more challenging than physics itself. Physics is actually quite fun when you have someone who can effectively communicate the more complex and counter-intuitive truths about the way our universe works.

As a physics tutor, my job is not to show off how much I know, but rather it's to help you find your understanding of the material and become great at it yourself. I do this by 1) not assuming you should "just know" how to properly set up a particular problem 2) not expecting you to "just get" why a particular phenomenon is the way it is 3) by asking you questions about what may be confusing or counter-intuitive, and using various approaches to explaining it until we find the one that works for your unique way of thinking about physical laws and properties.

About Colin
Hello there! My name is Colin, and I have five years of experience tutoring math and science. I am a PhD student in the UC Berkeley-UC San Fransisco joint bioengineering program. My strong background in STEM qualifies me to tutor math and science up through lower-division college courses. Aside from my academic qualifications, I believe that it is my genuine passion for math and science that makes me an effective tutor for students of all backgrounds.

As a tutor, my goal is not to impress students with how much I know. Rather, my goal is to show my students how easily math and science concepts can come to them when they are presented the material in a straightforward way. The late physicist, Richard Feynman, posited that the ability to explain complicated ideas in a simple manner is the true mark of understanding. I agree with this a
ssertion, and I make it my goal each tutoring session to explain even the most complex phenomena in a simple way, so that my student will come away from the lesson invariably understanding it. Additionally, I emphasize a strong understanding of the fundamentals, because both math and science are heavily inductive disciplines; many of the theorems and laws are founded on other, more fundamental principles. I have personally experienced the discouragement of trying to learn material that is beyond my preparedness level, and so I can empathize with students who are in that boat. Fortunately, I have learned that the remedy is always a return to, and a strengthening of the basics. That is the approach I take with students who find themselves struggling in a course.

My online teaching platform is a “black board” drawing program that my students can follow along with as I explain concepts and solve problems. I simply share my screen with them during the session, and at the end, I take a screenshot of the notes and email it to my students for their reference. I hope this brief explanation of my qualifications and teaching style has provided a clear image of what you can expect from me as your tutor. I am eager to hear from you and help you succeed in your academic goals!

Colin took the time to thoroughly explain the lesson before ending the session. My son felt more confident about algebra after meeting with him. Colin also took the time to email me, the parent, detailing how the lesson went. I would recommend Colin.

I had no idea how lucky I would be to find Pedro. I am an interior designer learning Autocad and having no prior experience with the program, Pedro made it totally accessible. He is a phenomenal teacher and is so kind and patient. He provides foundational rules at the beginning of each session and has clear goals mapped out for every step of the way. We have done a number of exercises that I did not think would be possible for me to accomplish at this point. I am so grateful to have found him and highly recommend him!!!!!

Half a decade of experience teaching on a variety of subjects to learners at nearly all levels. Subjects taught include classical mechanics, electricity and magnetism, analog circuitry, statistical and thermal physics, quantum mechanics, relativistic physics, propositional logic, first order logic, modal logic, music theory, jazz improvisation, and saxophone. I started my educational journey as a musician, and it led me into physics. Anyone can succeed in physics! I approach physics as a discipline which consists primarily in problem solving, and will empower students to discover reoccurring patterns in the problems they face. This problem solving skill applies not only to physics, but universally to our everyday lives!

About John
John S.F. Martin Jr. is an adjunct lecturer and laboratory instructor at Boise State University where he teaches introductory physics. He has bachelor certifications in both physics and philosophy, and a minor in applied mathematics.

His five years teaching experience spanning across a variety of subjects have shown him that any student can achieve their educational goals given the right guidance. His goal is to communicate to the student a complete understanding of the problem at hand, and to do so in a way that is exciting, entertaining, and humorous.

John is a 'right-brain' creative type who spent his youth studying jazz improvisation and music theory, gathering a small collection of awards from jazz festivals. With his father he founded and ran the 'Boise Student Jazz Jam' - a series of community jazz jam sessions spanning fro
m 2012-2019.

When he entered his collegiate education he made a switch to the hard sciences. There he learned his creative skills could be put to use analyzing scientific problems from novel perspectives. He has spent three years in a biophysics research environment working on fluorescence microscopy and computational modeling of intragenomic interactions. His work has been published in the evolutionary intelligence journal.

While pursuing his physics degree, John fell in love with philosophy, and the philosophy of physics in particular. John has presented his philosophical work at several philosophy conferences, working at the confluence of physics and philosophy to improve our understanding of the fundamental nature of the universe.

More than all of this however, John loves teaching. From the first private saxophone lesson he taught to the physics lectures he now gives, he has found nothing more fulfilling than to share the perspectives he has worked to gain, and help students exceed the expectations they hold for themselves.

I was a physics tutor at my college for about a year; it was a relaxed setting and an open place to ask questions. I'd like to bring that environment to this online platform. I'd also like to make sure that you understand the core material before moving on to the next lesson. The most common thing I experienced was an student too embarrassed to ask a question. I can assure you that there will be no judgement.
