We begin with exercises to develop technique and train for agility, musicality and music theory. Classical music is used but not exclusively as we explore the many different genres of music! Ear training is also offered so that the student may be able to play by ear as well as reading music.

About Tim

My wife and I have been teaching piano lessons in the Kansas City area for more than 20 years. We have studios in our home; she teaches upstairs and I teach downstairs! I am currently accepting new students and welcome the opportunity to see them grow and experience the joy of piano playing. W

My composition students should expect to work on traditional voiceleading and harmony, as well as how to arrange music for all varieties of ensembles. This includes everything from lead sheets to a full orchestra. Ear training is also essential for composers to translate what is in one's mind into a piece either in traditional notation, or realized electronically. I also teach composers how to work with the essential software of the industry, namely Sibelius or Finale, Ableton Live (including Max4Live), and Logic Pro.

All of my students will work on these foundations. From there, I work with my students to create a tangible system to organize their practice and goals so that we can work on more specific areas relevant to what they want out of their musical life. This system is extremely flexible and effective. I also encourage and assist my students to use this system in other areas of their lives, such as academics or sports. The skills needed for a high level of achievement are ...

"Taking lessons with Jared is a true gift; one that inevitably sends me out the door in better spirits then when I come in.
Jared is knowledgeable, experienced, respectful, flexible, funny, sensitive, patient, humble and kind.
I most appreciate his flexibility and understanding towards where I am in the moment, and believe that the ability for a teacher to meet the student where they're at is a true art.
I came to him for lessons in guitar, and am learning so much more. I have improved my skills on guitar, my understanding of theory, my confidence in song-writing, my awareness of the music industry, my comfort in singing, etc.!
Most importantly for me, is that taking lessons with Jared helps me be accountable to my own dreams of being a musician and he helps me take that seriously by celebrating the small victories and always being respectful to my ideas and efforts.
Jared has helped elevate and encourage my musicianship most importantly by simply being humble, human and easy to work with!
He shares his love of music and his joy in his students' progress, and he creates a community of learners that respect and cheer for each other at regular performances.
I am confident that Jared can help you learn what you want to learn, that you'll end up having fun and learning something you weren't expecting to learn along the way, and that he is humble enough to say if he ever gets stumped by a question and you'll end up learning something new together.
Have fun!"

Aaron has continued to help me perfect me skills as a ukulele player. My family has been very impressed with the improvements I have made with Aaron. My wife especially has noticed how much quicker my fingers have gotten! Aaron has proven to be reliable, up beat, positive and he listens to what I want to learn and hears what I need to perfect. He has helped me in so many ways and I recommend him as a teacher to anyone who wants to improve their playing."

"I've been singing my whole life, but Benjamin is the first instructor I've had and I'm really glad I decided to take lessons with him. I look forward to each lesson because I know I'm going to learn something new each time I do. He's very helpful, very knowledgeable, and gives great instructions on areas I need to improve on. I've only had a few lessons and I've learned so much. I feel grateful to have found a voice teacher this patient and fun to work with. I was also unsure how the lessons would be since I'm taking them online, but I feel like I'm getting just as much out of them as I would in person. I definitely recommend him to anyone!"
