My son has been studying with Mr Thomas for 5 years! He is a very talented musician/teacher and I’ve seen such progress in my sons playing over the years. He has helped him write his own pieces and prepped him for his orchestra performances. “Mr. Thomas is really fun to play music with and you learn a lot. He even helped me with transcribing a video game soundtrack that I loved into my recital piece”! We highly recommend Mr. Thomas!

My son took clarinet lessons in-person and then transitioned to online when COVID happened. He tried piano and violin before but clarinet is the first instrument that Micah was super excited about. He learned and improved so much with the one on one instruction with Thomas. He says clarinet is his passion now and looks forward to every lesson. I recommend Thomas to teach your child. He is patient, kind and can find ways to motivate kids to play at their best.

As a group Clarinet and Flute teacher with Youth Orchestra of St. Luke's, Thomas Giles created an engaging and inspiring music learning curriculum for his students. At each recital all of his students were able to introduce themselves, the piece they have learned, and a bit of history or commentary to go along. Throughout online learning Dr. Giles continued a supportive and creative environment, even through zoom, where each of his students composed and performed their own piece. If you are looking for your student to come away from lessons with a high level of ability and confidence on their instrument look no further than Dr. Giles, they will have the added bonus of learning important skills such as public speaking and presenting. They may even take away some composition and arranging skills!

I have been playing the flute for nine years and the piccolo for two and have been in a variety of bands and orchestras. I currently play in Montana Technological University's pep and concert bands and intend to audition for the Butte Symphony Orchestra when they resume rehearsals. In high school, I placed first chair in my school's audition band my Senior year, placed second chair in the audition band my Junior year, participated in the non-audition band, was handpicked by my director to play flute and piccolo for our school's musical, was a marching band section leader for two consecutive years, and occasionally played with the school's orchestra and choir. I find playing music to be incredibly peaceful and relaxing, as well as enjoyable, fun, and exciting! I would love to be able to pass on some of my knowledge to you so that we're able to have fun together! I do best with teaching beginners and intermediate-level students in a patient and goal-oriented environment. During our ...

I don’t actually teach flute and piano lessons… I teach fully integrated musicianship and community building that involves the flute and piano. I teach a full curriculum that blends not just good playing, but music theory (how music is constructed), history, performance skills, and positive social interaction. Why just “take flute lessons” when you can meet new friends while performing in three recitals per year and maybe even in the Kentucky All-State Band or the Cincinnati Youth Orchestra? Why just play simple melodies when you can learn the skills that enable you to take on college-level literature like a boss?

Why settle for ORDINARY when you can be UTTERLY EXTRAORDINARY!!

About Amy

Hey! I’m Dr. Amy. If it has to do with music, I’ve probably done it, from performing flutist to band director to church musician to general music teacher to college music theory professor! I have a doctorate, two masters degrees, and a bachelors degree all in music. (You know how some people col

Dr. Kennedy (Amy) was so phenomenal to work with. I felt so enriched by our conversations and one-on-one work. She encouraged me to dig deeper and push past the surface when analyzing works, an important skill I use every day as a theorist. I always left feeling like I had a good grasp on the content, but even more important I left feeling valued as an academic and human. Highly highly recommend her services!
