I am a seasoned performer and teacher who loves to help people discover the great talent that lies within them! I have been performing for over 20 years, and teaching for about 13. I love working with people, especially children. I have an AA in music and specialize in helping vocalists overcome confidence issues due to obstacles (whether real or imagined) that are holding them back when they sing. I have traveled with choirs and small singing groups as well as performing as a soloist in musicals and with choirs. I have directed children's choirs for 15 years. Now available nationwide for online students!

I have a very easy going attitude that helps my students feel comfortable. At the same time, I expect hard work and diligence as the student progresses. I don't want to waste anyone's time or money...the o

About Jessica
Dear students and parents,

Hello and welcome to takelessons.com! My name is Jessica and I am classically trained violinist with over 19 years of playing experience. I was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland and recently relocated to Saint Louis with my family. Music has always been passion of mine since a very young age, so it was inevitable that it would end up being my career. Naturally, a love for teaching the wonders of music followed suit!

I always try to form a great rapport with my students and parents from the very first lesson. For younger students, I encourage my parents to take an active part in both lessons and daily practice, as is encouraged by Shinichi Suzuki.

I've been teaching violin and viola professionally for over 10 years now. My experience includes teaching private lessons at students homes as well as at
various music schools, summer camps and festivals. A few advanced students have even attended and performed in some of these aforementioned festivals! I am always encouraging my students to go above and beyond.

A bit of background about me: I started my music studies at the age of 7. Lessons and orchestra were literally the highlight of my childhood. I ended up attending the Baltimore School for the Arts for high school, and went on to receive my Bachelor of Music Performance degree from Shenandoah University and complete further studies in England, Northern Ireland and Maryland (UMBC graduate certificate). I am also a registered Suzuki Violin/Viola teacher and have attended many teachers workshops in order to gain the knowledge and experience necessary to work with any and all types of students, including those with learning disabilities, such as ADD and FAS.

*** Lesson Details ***
While I am a registered Suzuki violin teacher, I do not teach solely out of a certain method or "by the book"; I choose and mold every lesson depending on specific, strengths, weaknesses, etc. If you are a more advanced, serious player, more intensive lessons and repertoire will follow suit.

I am comfortable teaching all ages and levels up to advanced. Use of games make learning the violin fun and accessible for young children. Older and more advanced students receive a more technical, intensive and advanced approach. Coaching and weekly help on school assigned materials (orchestra/string class music and homework) Classical, Jazz, Gypsy and Fiddle styles are all introduced and studied to give students a rounded technique. Music theory (reading and understanding music) is incorporated in lessons. Repertoire is diverse and exciting. Various approaches for the visual or aural learner. Guaranteed to keep you or your child engaged and interested!

*** Equipment and Studio Lesson Details ***

-If you are coming to my home for lessons, please be sure to bring your instrument and any books you may already have.

**Please note, there are three cats in the house. They are usually isolated to a different part of the house during lessons to ensure there are no unnecessary distractions and to help minimize potential allergies (studio is also sprayed with allergy reducer spray and vacuumed regularly). All are UTD on shots. Please call and ask to schedule a "trial" lesson to see if the animals interfere with allergies.

New students:
You may park on the Clayton Rd outside our house or on the cul-de-sac next to the house and walk down.
I have a trial 1/8, 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 size violin to use for the first lesson if your child is a beginner.
After the first lesson I will send an email explaining what materials and equipment I recommend you buy to help you sound your best.

Places to rent or buy instruments will be recommended upon request.

*** Cancellation/Reschedule Requests ***
1) At least 24 hours notice is required if you need to cancel your, or your child's, lesson. You will be given the option to take a credit that will automatically roll over to cover future unpaid lessons on your calendar, or the option to reschedule for a different day within a week of the canceled lesson.

2) If you find that you need to cancel with less than 24 hours notice (I completely understand life happens, and sometimes it is unavoidable to provide 24hr notice), you will be given the option to make up your lesson within 7 calendar days of your originally scheduled lesson time. If you cannot do a makeup lesson, this will result in the lesson being marked as "missed" and will still be charged as if you attended the lesson.

3) If you do not show up to your lesson scheduled at my home studio and no notice was given, the lesson will be marked as "missed" and will still be charged as if you attended the lesson.

4) If I need to reschedule or cancel a lesson for whatever reason, you will be given an option for a makeup lesson or given a credit that will automatically roll over to cover future unpaid lessons.

5) I require two weeks notice to discontinue lessons if you would like to receive a refund or be exempt from paying future tuition.

6) All lessons are billed ahead of schedule and must be paid in advance in order to keep your lesson slot.

We'll develop the repertoire that fits YOU. You'll learn how the Voice works and where it really comes from, and probably be amazed at the almost immediate widening of your vocal range.

Trained by one of the Metropolitan Opera'€™s most beloved Voice Coaches, Vanessa brings to the world of music a wonderfully varied Performing and Teaching career ranging from Opera to Broadway. She holds a BA degree in Music Performance from the School of Fine and Applied Arts of Boston University, and is an award winning Poet. Vanessa has produced, hosted, sung, and broadcast over 2,500 te

And, you will be able to sing for longer periods of time without getting tired or injuring your voice. You might also want the experience of practicing stage presence, working with trax, learning how to relate to an audience, and learning microphone technique, all of which will add to the professionalism of your most excellent and enjoyable career.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in finding the student's unique voice, and helping them to understand its natural operation in order to set it free to be used in any style they choose to sing. The Italian Bel Canto method describes the basic singing technique, and is the foundation from which a healthy and versatile voice can be developed. My upcoming book, "All God's Chillun' Got A Voice" How To Find It, and Release It As A Creative Tool”, discusses both the technical and esoteric sides of the singing voice, its operation and purposes.

About John
I'm a Detroit-based multi-instrumentalist with experience playing gospel, jazz, R&B, rock, and more. I studied jazz bass at University of Michigan, but I am certainly down-to-earth and open to teaching a variety of musical styles at many different levels. I've played bass, keys, and guitar in a number of groups over the years, and I've studied these instruments privately with amazing mentors since I was young. Because of this experience I can help a student find and fine-tune their role in their band no matter what the instrument. I can also help those students who play music privately in their own homes or with their friends to create and attain musical goals.

More than anything, I appreciate the friendships I form with my students. There is tremendous trust formed in the teacher-student relationship as we work toward shared go
als, and that is something very special to me. Essentially, music takes on an apprenticeship model. Interested beginners find an experienced mentor, gain knowledge and experience, and in turn become experienced musicians who can mentor students themselves. I've celebrated achievements with my students as they begin to perform, write and record original music, and pass auditions for groups and music schools. I derive so much pride and responsibility from carrying on my musical lineage, and I strive to help students follow their interests and become accomplished musicians in their own right.

About Donnie
Want to carry out at least one of your life goals? Well, if one of your goals is to learn the guitar, I can certainly help you!

Hi! My name is Donnie and I can't wait to meet you! I've been teaching private lessons for several years and have loved helping my students, Kevin, Andrew, and Avery (all of whom have left 5-star reviews) reach their goals! I strive to not only give my students exercises and riffs to learn, but to teach them the reasoning and Music Theory behind those notes and chords.

My teaching style is committed to showing you "how" to learn and not just throwing various songs, scales, and techniques at you. I will be firm and provide you with the accountability you need to move forward.

My favorite artists (many of whom have songs that are taught as part of my curriculum) are The Beatles, Metallica, Santana, Stev
ie Ray Vaghan, Nirvana, Green Day, Johnny Cash, The Eagles, Avenged Sevenfold, and many more!

Additionally, in 2017 I was given Takelesson's "Student Favorite" award. This means that I have consistently ranked in the top 15% of Takelessons teachers based upon reviews, number of students, and student retention!

Guitar has been a love of mine since I was 9 years old and I enjoy helping other people realize their full potential! I have training in standard notation and tablature, and I am equipped with the resources necessary to get you going quickly!

I graduated from Liberty University this year with a Bachelors in Business Administration degree. Each week, I teach around 23-25 students! I am looking forward to helping you reach your goals!

Please feel free to use the "Ask a question" feature, I will reply to you as soon as possible.

About Julie
I am a professional musician, specializing in traditional American and Irish music and song; I can, however, also teach classical guitar and beginning-intermediate violin. My CD, "American Stranger," has received critical acclaim and I have authored two books on DADGAD guitar for Mel Bay Publications.

I taught myself guitar at the age of thirteen, but took three years of lessons at Washington University, where I also studied English and French. As an adult I became interested in fingerstyle guitar in open tunings, especially DADGAD. I am, however, happy to teach in standard tuning--including basic guitar proficiency, classical guitar, and "folk" guitar.

I have played violin since I was eleven, taking lessons until the age of sixteen and playing in both high school orchestra and the local youth symphony. I later learned to sus
pend much of my classical technique in order to play both old-time and traditional Irish fiddle as authentically as possible; but I still retain my initial training and apply good basic violin technique to my fiddle and (of course) her violin teaching, while tailoring it to the musical idioms of each of students.

I have also studied voice, which again, however, I have never allowed to interfere with my performance of traditional songs--largely because I had developed a traditional approach to the singing of both American southern mountain repertory and traditional Irish song many years before receiving any formal instruction. This training, however, has given me greater insight into how to get the most out of your voice for almost any style.

I also taught myself to play lap dulcimer, basing my approach on the Eastern Kentucky styles associated with Jean Ritchie, Barbara Edwards, and Anne MacFie—that is, primarily using a small dowel stick or noter to sound the melody, and playing counter-melodies for song accompaniments.

My clawhammer banjo-playing is influenced by various Appalachian instrumentalists and accompanists (including Dock Boggs, Clarence Ashley, Hobart Smith, and Lily May Ledford), but my style is also influenced by years of playing with midwestern and southern-style fiddlers.

I welcome students ages 10 or above, and have learned to adapt my teaching style to the individual student, helping each one to make the most of his or her talents and enthusiasms, while emphasizing sound technique and good practice habits.

I loved working with Julie. She considered what my goals were for playing and the playing style I was interested in. She then guided my lesson practice toward those goals, while at the same time making sure I was getting the underlying foundational principles to build upon. I'm off to a good strong start and I'm certain I will continue to build my skills and enjoy playing music for many years.

About Beatrice
Before I am a teacher, I am first and foremost, a performer. I believe this puts me at an advantage as a music teacher because I not only have formal training to educate, but I also have the experience of performing. I know how music involves our passions, emotions, our dreams and our fears, that all our complexities as human beings can perfectly be communicated through music. This is why I turn to performance time and time again. There is, no doubt, so much to be said on the intellectual and educational benefits of learning to play an instrument, but I don't think that is the reason many students want to learn. Rather, it amounts to being an outlet of creativity for the student.

In lessons, I try to take a balanced approach by exposing students to every aspect of music: theory, technique, expression, history, and composition. They're
ALL important in music lessons! Within a well-rounded music education, I encourage students to apply both rigor and patience in what I assign. Lastly, no two students are the same; everyone has different needs and goals and comes with their own unique set of traits. I diagnose accordingly and work to uncover each individuals' strengths and weaknesses.
