I teach both old-time American and traditional Irish fiddle, hewing closely to the older traditional styles I myself perform. You can expect to learn the basic of fiddle-playing (based on good violin technique, including how to hold the instrument properly and how to achieve a good tone), bowing, phrasing, ornaments, and other tricks of the trade. I can teach both from music and by ear.

An experienced and registered Suzuki teacher, my students learn to play violin starting from a solid foundation with emphasis on posture and producing a beautiful tone. In addition to playing the instrument, students can expect to learn reading music, basic theory, music history, and ear training. Learning violin will teach patience, concentration, the value of hard work, coordination, as well as enhancing memory, aural skills, and fine motor control. It was Dr. Suzuki's belief and mine that learning an instrument not only fosters these skills but also helps to foster the hearts and minds of those learning the craft.

About Sylvia

Sylvia Wehrs grew up in Auburn, Alabama studying the violin and piano. She is a graduate of the Cleveland Institute of Music where she graduated with both a Bachelor’s in Violin Performance and a Master’s degree in Violin Performance and Suzuki Pedagogy. Sylvia is very good at taking the time to explain the reasons behind the why of doing certain things. Being an adult with no musical background what so ever she has really taken the time to teach me some basic fundamentals that are helping me build the solid foundation that I so very much want and need. Beyond the time we spend with one-on-one instructions she challenges me with exercises to practice on between our meetings. I explained to Sylvia what I was looking for and she has centered the training and instructions around that to ensure that my goals are being met. She is a pleasure to work with and learn from.

"This is a great place to take your kid for lessons. he has a great learning plan for children. The kinder music for my 3 year old grandson is awesome. My grandkids love it there. The environment is nice, clean, and safe. There is a waiting area ear shot for the parent or you can get involved. I have noticed great improvement in listening and comprehending with my 7 year old grandchild that has a learning disability. He gets a chance to play all the instruments and is taught something about each one each time he comes. Plus there are instruments for sale if needed. I have even learned something's myself. I would recommend ABBEY MUSIC as a great place to get started and grow"

"Excellent teacher, very pedagogical and knowledgeable of an extensive clarinet repertoire. He uses recognized methods, studies and diverse orchestral excerpts to develop the technique of his pupils. This technique will allow the student to play skillfully at any time (rehearsals, recitals, concerts, recordings) and in any musical format (orchestra, chamber music). He is always focused on the quality of the interpretation. Moreover, he adapts the work material to the needs of each student to solve any deficiency and enhance the strengths. Additionally, he provides advice about videos and recordings which help students expand their musical criteria. I highly recommend him!"

Learn Bass Guitar: How to Play a Walking Bass Line in 3 Steps

Looking for a way to make your bass lines move? Bass guitar teacher Miller W. shares his three step plan to creating walking bass lines... The walking bass line is one of the most fundamental parts of American music. It is found most commonly in blues and jazz, but as you learn bass guitar, you will hear its influence in almost any style of music.
