I am very passionate about technique, and so I make sure each student is set up for success by encouraging good posture and both left and right hand placements. I believe scales are vital, so each of my students does a variety of scales and rhythm exercises to ensure they are confident in counting as well as note accuracy and intonation. My mother is a piano teacher, so I grew up loving music, and in turn, falling in love with the idea of teaching! I care deeply about each student and want to ensure that they walk away from each lesson with new knowledge, whilst learning to love the violin and music in general!

I have been playing the violin for 18 years and teaching for 10 years. My curriculum includes a heavy emphasis on sound quality and correct, relaxed technique, followed by musicality and a well rounded music education. My goal is for students to be well versed not only in how to play violin, but also be knowledgeable in music history and theory. I believe that students should enjoy their music lessons while utilizing their individual learning style.

Having taught and performed for over 30 years, I have had the pleasure of working with students of all levels and ages. For beginning students, you can expect to be playing and learning to read music within your first month of taking lessons. I am happy to say that my intermediate and advanced students have met goals of preparing for auditions with success, performance events, and simply studying new technique and repertoire for their own pleasure. I am not only passionate about violin but a people lover! I enjoy working with young ones and helping adults achieve their musical goal on their bucket list. My 10 years of violin experience has made me into the person I am today, and I can not imagine life without music. I want to teach my students the beauty of the violin and that it is a fun hobby. I have studied the violin with Manuel Diaz, Sylvia Whers, Tzu-yi Chen, Ruslan Apostolov, Tian Xu, Gina Moody, Lazslo Stan, James Palmer, Jon Carmack, and Boris Abromov. Studying with several teachers has made me learn through different perspectives which I can share with my students. I have been concertmaster for most of the orchestras I have played in and made a state-wide orchestra audition.

First and foremost, it is so important for me to get to know you and your musical interests (favorite songs, artists or bands). Once I know a little bit more about you and where your musical interests are, I help you build goals based on what you’d like to accomplish...that could be anything from “just wanting to learn something new and to have fun” to “playing my sister’s favorite song at her wedding in 3 months” or “to join an orchestra and make it my professional goal”. My style of teaching over the last 25 years incorporates technique, reading music, ear training, and improvisation. In addition to the violin, I teach viola, cello and piano/keyboard. The genres I love to teach are classical, rock, pop, jazz, film/tv music, and fiddle!
