David enjoys teaching students from all different backgrounds and levels of proficiency. Whether you are just starting out or a virtuoso shredder in the making, he is happy to teach you! Over all, he is fairly laid back, as long as you practice. He usually combines work with reading off of the treble clef (what he likens to "eating your vegetables." You may not want to do it, but it will make you a healthier musician!) with learning more popular songs (or songs the student says they would like to learn) through tablature and chord charts, depending on the style of the song.

David is also very pro music theory. He usually incorporates music theory into the curriculum in conjunction with the material already being discussed. He is also very knowledgeable about composition/songwriting, and if the student is interested in learning more about this area, he is happy to share what he knows!

About David

David is a successful singer/songwriter/guitarist out of Fairfax, VA. He has a bachelor's degree in Music with a concentration in composition from Salisbury University, where he also studied jazz and classical guitar . In the 25 years he has been performing (20 of those professionally) and playing

My classes are very flexible when it comes to what the student wants. On the first class, I give the student the choice of controlling our lessons materials about what they want to learn. Or the student can choose to let me control our classes, in which I will bring my own materials and ideas in which we should work and will go through the whole academic process of learning music.

Have been teaching for many years and know that each student has their own mindset and we need to work around each person`s goals and interests. "I have been taking lessons with Jimmy for about 3 years now and couldn't be happier. I remember being amazed at how quickly I progressed early on, which instantly got me hooked. He focuses hard on your guitar foundation as well a your music theory foundation, not just on how to play a few songs. Since Jimmy has his own studio, you have the capability to record your own songs as much as you would like. The studio also provides a new way of learning that no where else offers by going through your own recordings step by step to pinpoint problem areas. I look forward to going to Jimmy's every week. He is a funny, kind and easy to talk to guy with a passion for what he does.

Eric is patient with me as I am a little older and not a quick learner plus my work and family life is hectic so my practice times vary. Only reason I am not giving five stars is this is my first time taking guitar lessons but I know I will be sticking with Eric probably for another couple years of lessons as this is the first hobby I have had in a long time that I truly enjoy!"

How to Simplify Your Live Guitar Rig for Performances

Playing the guitar is such a fantastic experience. It’s so relieving to be on stage or in your designated practice space and just wail on your instrument. However, one of the difficulties of being a guitar player is deciding what gear is needed for live performances. We often get trapped in thinking that we must have the biggest and loudest guitar rig for shows, accompanied by a pedalboard equipped with 30+ pedals. Don’t get me wrong, there is something extremely satisfying about plugging in …
