As a harp teacher, all of my
students play scales, arpeggios, and technical exercises in
their lessons. I believe having a strong technical base is the foundation for
every part of playing and you can't learn without it. I will set the repertoire
for students according to their technical progress and although I may
take into consideration a student's desires to learn a certain piece, there has
to be time and they have to be ready for it. I have both short term and long
term goals for each student that involve theory, technical ability, and
repertoire both orchestral and solo. Adult students still have to learn
technique, it makes things much more fun and easy six months later, I promise! Beginning students will learn how to read notes, understand basic theory, and technique in a short amount of time, so don't be scared if you have never had a music lesson before.

*** Lesson Details ***

As a HARP teacher, all of my
students play scales, arpeggios, and technical exercises in
their lessons. I believe having a strong technical base is the foundation for
every part of playing and you can't learn without it. I will set the repertoire
for students according to their technical progress and although I may
take into consideration a student's desires to learn a certain piece, there has
to be time and they have to be ready for it. I have both short term and long
term goals for each student that involve theory, technical ability, and
repertoire: fun, orchestral and solo. Adult students still have to learn
technique, it makes things much more fun and easy six months later, I promise! Beginning students will learn how to read notes, understand basic theory, and technique in a short amount of time, so don't be scared if you have never had a music lesson before.

I require all students make
at least half an hour a day commitment to practice. I teach mostly the Grandjany method of harp technique, however, I also use Salzedo and Renie methods
at times to fit a particular students' build and unique physical attributes as well as what the piece requires. I
have studied all techniques throughout my education and I find them all
beneficial for different reasons. I do, however, believe everyone is built
differently and the technique should help the harpist play and not hinder them
from achieving their goals. Everyone learns at a different speed, but as a
brand new musician, after six months practicing regularly, you should be able
to read music fluently, understand basic theory concepts, be able to play with
both hands and four fingers on each hand, play all of the basic scales and
arpeggios musically and be able to play at least one piece memorized.
Curriculum is based on the student's technical ability and issues and is
individually created – if you learn slower than someone else, don’t worry about
your pace. In the end, lessons are about you personally and not someone else.

As a PIANO teacher, I want students to learn about music and not just the piano. Students will learn basic music theory and basic scales as a part of their lessons. They will also occasionally choose a song of their choosing to work on chords. I do promote note reading and theory, so I am not the right teacher for students who don't want to invest time in learning the basics. These basics are the building blocks of all music and can be used for any instrument the student chooses to learn in the future.

*** Studio Equipment ***
I have harps and a piano at my studio, so you do not need to bring your harp to lessons. If you don't own a harp, you can rent one for around $45/month from several sources.

*** Specialties ***
HARP - Grandjany Technique with an incorporation of Salzedo and French school depending on the player's body type and technical difficulties. I make use of the ABRSM as well as local, national, and international competitions depending on the student's level of commitment.

PIANO - I teach basic piano for fun through an Intermediate level. Although some students choose to take CM and ABRSM exams, I do not push them. I want students to enjoy piano and music lessons.

Alexandra has met all my expectations. She is very patient. I feel like we are moving along at a good pace. I had zero musical experience and after only 3 lessons can read basic sheet music and actually have music come out of the piano!! I am enjoying the whole process.

As a music teacher of over 10 years I take a fun but structured approach to learning the harp. I've taught all ages and I individually work with each student to help them learn the music that they want to and reach the goals that they set for themselves. I also have a large emphasis on hand position and help my students have the very best technique so they can play their very best. We will typically start with exercises and technique and then move to music. I will then send written individual feedback after the lesson to help remind the student of what we are working on. I hope to have the chance to share my love of music with you!

About Jill
I am a harpist, pianist, arranger, composer, performer and lover of music. With over 10 years of experience teaching both piano and harp lessons. Although I graduated from Brigham Young University in Idaho with a Bachelors in visual communication, I have continued to stretch my skills as musician and teacher.

I perform frequently and love sharing my passion for the harp and piano through teaching so others can also experience having these beautiful instruments in their lives.

I teach piano and harp students of all different ages and experience levels, although I have an especially great love for teaching children and youth. I studied classical piano for over 12 years, and classic harp for over 11 years. A huge part of my music education was focused on theory and as a result I have a great love of having a strong foundation in musica
l theory.

I strive to help my students develop a love music that can last throughout their entire life while still learning proper technique and theory. I strive to help students set individual goals and then structure lessons to help these students reach each of their dreams.

I really enjoy composing and arranging so something that I especially love to do is help students play music and songs that they want to by arranging music specifically to their individual levels and skills. I've found that this not only helps motivate students but also adds an extra fun aspect to our lessons.

My passion is sharing my love of music with those around me. I would love the chance to meet you and hopefully share this passion with you!

Jill is an amazing harp teacher! Because she is so positive, energetic and supportive, she has made learning to play the harp a wonderful experience for my daughters. She is able motivate my girls to practice and they look forward to their lessons each week. I asked my girls what their favorite things are about Jill. My 14-year-old said, “It is really obvious that she loves to play the harp. This makes me love to play as well because of her enthusiasm and example. She is really encouraging when I get frustrated.” My 12-year-old said, “She helps me find my weaknesses and thinks of ways to strengthen them. She also makes learning the harp a lot of fun.” We would highly recommend Jill as a music teacher!

I enjoyed my first harp lesson with Liudmila so much! She is a very sweet lady, and a very patient, knowledgable, and professional teacher. She taught me the correct posture and hand positions at the first lesson. I was struggeling with the hand positions first, but she didn't mind to explain them to me over and over again. She also plaid some tunes to me, and I could tell that she is an awsome harpist. I am very glad that I can learn from her. I highly recommend her to anyone who wants to learn from a professional harpist.

About Louise
French-born harpist Louise Ollivier is emerging as an engaging performer in both her native France and New York City. She has won awards and has participated in several international competitions (Rovere d'Oro, Concours Francais de la Harpe, USA International Harp Competition). In past seasons, she has performed at the Lincoln Center in New York and was invited to play with the United Nations Orchestra. Louise has also performed across Europe (France, Germany, Netherlands, Germany, UK, Italy, Belgium, Sweden, Switzerland, Spain) with the Brussel Chamber Orchestra, National Police Orchestra of France or at the Royal Opera of Liege and on Josh Groban’s live tour in 2016. The harp has honestly taught me so many valuable lessons and I would not be the same person without it. I highly recommend it because it is a glorious instrument that will change your life. You will learn technique, theory, dynamics, and different styles of playing the harp. Anyone can play the harp regardless of age. I would say a lesson with me is encouraging, yet challenging. I would you to fall in love with the harp, just as much as I am in love with it and I also want you to feel as though you are being stretched. Happy harping!

About Lauren
Hello, my name is Lauren and I am a harpist living in New York City, Manhattan and Oxnard, California. I first fell in love with the harp when I was five years old. I attended a wedding in Minnesota where I saw a beautiful pedal harp and immediately took an affinity to the instrument. It took my mom and I three years to find a harp teacher, but when I was eight, I had my first lesson. Since then and now, much has happened. I’ve played at several weddings and events. In 2011, I placed second in the Redlands Harp Competition and I have even been blessed to preform at spectacular venues such as The Thousand Oaks Civics Arts Plaza and The Grand Ole Opry in Tennessee. I have also attended the prestigious summer intensive "Young Artist's Harp Seminar." For my first year of college, I was the principal harpist for Pepperdine University's Symph
ony and Woodwind Ensemble. Currently, I am pursuing a Film and Television degree from New York University Tisch as well as involving myself in the music community at NYU Stienhardt.

When I am not harping, I like to watch movies (Wes Anderson films are my favorite!), go to coffee shops, and visit museums. Being able to play the harp is a wonderful experience and I hope to share my gift with as many people as possible.
