I help singers develop powerful, authentic voices. If you want to sing with more ease and freedom, deepen your understanding of your vocal instrument and learn tools to help you become more confident performing in public whether it be singing or speaking, THIS is for you! Optimize your voice by understanding how it works.

I use multifaceted exercises to help you find and feel the difference in sound immediately, and we follow-up by with learning daily exercise protocols that help develop the muscular structure to create an easily sustainable vocal resonance.

Singing skills we will develop include:
1) Learn how to hear your starting pitch
2) Learn how rhythm helps you count yourself in at the beginning of the song

Learn singing exercises that help you:
* Increase your range
* Broaden vocal tone
* Explore dynamics
* Cultivate calm energy
* Feel better about your voice

My teaching style is infused with the knowledge that students of voice must be treated with great ...

About Arlys
Are you a singer or speaker who would like a more powerful, authentic voice? My focus is to assist you in finding an easier way to sustain your best posture, breath support, resonance and pitch control by bringing awareness to existing vocal habits while providing a hands-on experience adjusting those habits. My mission is to help you find your most relaxed & elongated posture, breath support, full resonance and best pitch control.

My specialty as a professional voice teacher is Contemporary Commercial Music [CCM] which encompasses genres & sub-genres from Pop, Country, Hip/Hop, Folk, Rock, R&B, Soul, Gospel, EDM [electronic dance music], etc.

I grew up singing freely and naturally until I destroyed my voice thru improper, frequent overuse. I believed my career was over, but it was just starting. Private lessons with vocal professio
nals coupled with academic studies rebuilt my perception of how I was generating sound and their training gave me back MY VOICE, for which I am forever grateful. I combine knowledge from these studies and my own vocal exploration to re-build my voice in exercises that I share with students of voice.

I CAN HELP YOU REACH YOUR GOALS: My cross-training in dance, yoga, Tai Chi, commercial & improvisational acting provides a well-rounded platform from which to deliver information, guide vocal explorers and also help develop talent.

EXPERIENCE:
* 20 years teaching experience
* 12 years living & working in Los Angeles
* A lifetime of performing experience
* 12 years personal private vocal studies master teachers of bel canto & contemporary singing techniques.

LIFE SKILLS: No matter the subject, my focus is also teach skills that can be extrapolated into any area of your life. Life Skills focuses on eradicating negative self-talk and expanding communication skills that help develop confidence, enhancing daily life.

Between performing and my own artistic studies, I have been taking the occasional private voice student since 1997, mostly via referrals from friends and other students. While living in California, one of my voice teachers requested me as her regular substitute at Culver City and Santa Monica Music Schools from 2008-2012, which I felt deeply honored. She said she trusted me with their voices, which encouraged me into full-time voice teaching practice. In June 2012, I returned to Minneapolis and began teaching in my home studio through music services like Take Lessons. Past projects include producing a vocal showcase at The Ritz Theater, musical direction & choreography for a school's 2016 production of the Wizard of Oz; assisting students to prepare for local & national auditions like La Banda, The Voice & American Idol; prepping singers for studio recordings and congratulating a new student who's stepped out of the chorus to land her first lead role!

I am forever grateful to all of my teachers, past and present, for their valuable gifts of knowledge, skill, grace and compassion.

ENJOY LIFE MORE! Singing & dancing improves our quality of life.

I have been taking voice lessons with Arlys since February 2017 and have noticed significant improvement in my singing and speaking voice, which is really something for me because my voice quality was not very good to begin with. Arlys is skilled, knowledgeable, patient, creative(thinks outside the box), and very professional. Definitely several points above average-I would highly recommend her as a teacher!

I found Zach through 'take lessons' after my daughter had a few years with an intense classical pianist. I want my daughter to have fun and appreciate music and not feel the intense pressure she was feeling with our previous instructor. Zach was the perfect choice. My daughter loves her lessons. Zach does take time off for his professional endevors. Good for him. He has always let us know and connected with us when he returns.

I've been a guitar player for a while and have wanted to learn how to sing along with the guitar. Mark has done an excellent job determining where I currently am as a singer and how I can get to where I want to be as a singer. He has started with the basics and explaining to me how you can improve as a singer by making routine out of several exercises. He has done a great job not just explaining what the exercises are, but why they are beneficial to me as a vocalist. After gathering a better sense of my voice, I have started bringing my guitar to lessons and he has helped me immensely to blend my voice with my instrument. Since doing these lessons, I've had the confidence in my voice to start performing at open-mic nights in the Twin Cities and I thank Mark for that! He is wonderful!

I found Mark through TakeLessons a little over a year ago when my dad and I were looking to start learning guitar. I could not have been more pleased with how accommodating Mark was with our schedules and different skill levels. Whether its reviewing what we learned the week prior or taking on something new we are being challenged every lesson. My dad and I have come a long way since we started last year and Mark is to thank for our success. I highly recommend Mark if you are just starting out or have a few years under your belt. He is crazy knowledgeable!

In voice lessons, I emphasize healthy, natural singing technique, clear diction, and strong communication (acting) skills. I am fluent in German and can coach diction in French, Italian, and Latin. I am comfortable with classical/opera, musical theater, jazz, and pop styles (but classical will be our foundation). Whether you think you can't carry a tune in a bucket, want to get into an auditioned choir, or aspire to a stage career, I will give you what you need to reach your goals!

About Siri
I am passionate about providing the most well-rounded music training to singers and pianists of all ages. This includes learning healthy technique, sight-reading, theory and analysis, and appropriate repertoire. Singers also learn acting techniques. Flutists can get a solid start on their instrument with good tone and note-reading skills. I have MM degrees in Voice and Piano Performance and Instrumental Conducting and am nationally certified in piano teaching through MTNA. I am an active member of both MTNA and NATS.

I started learning German through what is now the Concordia Language Villages. I spent my senior year of high school as an exchange student in the southern Black Forest of Germany and took several high-level German classes in college. Because of this, I have the ability to teach each student based on their own individual needs. As a result, I have enjoyed a wonderful rapport with all my students, since I make them comfortable and help them feel a difference in their singing from the very first lesson. This way, there is an atmosphere of trust and ease so that students are free enough to explore and ask questions. Something that is an important part of my teaching is simplifying and clarifying the basics. Being able to grasp a concept is a confidence builder for students. Then, they can thrive and approach their practice sessions with joy. Therefore, they continue to make progress and are proud of the work they do.
