My name is Robin Rapsys and as a drummer, I have booked, performed, and toured in small jazz combos, rock groups, and metal bands. I have also recorded and engineered drums and percussion for rock bands, film & TV, and jazz combos. Combine all that experience with years of teaching private and group lessons at a music academy and you will find a wide range of topics to learn about within the entire music industry. I teach out of my home recording studio in Prior Lake, MN where I record tracks on a regular basis. This gives my students an opportunity to get recording experience during their lesson.

About Robin

I offer drum lessons for beginner, intermediate, and advanced students supported by real-life experience in teaching at a music academy, touring and performing in bands, recording at my home studio, writing and reading music, advanced styles, etc.

I believe teaching needs to be tailor-fit to the individual. There is no one-size-fits-all when it comes to private instruction. Our lessons will begin by me getting to know who you are as a student and as a musician. We will determine what you want out of music and your instrument, then we will set goals to get there. All of this will be a collaboration between me and you. I believe that music must be a self-driven endeavor. It is a vehicle for self-discovery.

That being said, I do believe in having a solid technical foundation, and I will push you to develop a daily practice routine. I try to begin every lesson with a rudimental warmup, regardless of age or experience. I also try to include free-play time, playing together, or playing along to music with every session to have fun and develop creativity. I believe fun, creativity, and human-connection is what music is all about, and technique is the work you put in to make those things happen. We will always end on a positive note ...

About Alex

Alex began his drumming career at age 11, and it quickly became his number one passion. Graduating from the snare drum to the drum set in high school, he learned to love the excitement of the stage with his rock band, Ghost Animals, and dove deep into the world of jazz while playing in his high sch

I came to Paul for some voice lessons before my band entered the studio. Not only did he help me improve my voice and ear training, but he gave me many tools to improve my timing, vocal range, and knowledge of theory. I highly recommend him!

This was my first experience with on line teaching and it was great. I had tried reading the books and watching some videos on You Tube and was not making progress. Just a few minutes with Paul and what I couldn't figure out suddenly made sense.

Looking forward to next week.

"Garrett is an extremely good teacher & really caters to your abilities and learning style. I’ve learned something new every single week, so I don’t get bored while trying to perfect all of the basic rudiments. He’s also extremely flexible with his scheduling, and has occasionally driven to my rehearsal space for our lessons. I highly recommend him!!"

"Michael has been very patient and flexible with my inconsistent schedule as a working adult. He brings a positive energy with a lot of praise and positive reinforcement that makes me look forward to my weekly lesson. If learning how to play drums is on your new years resolution/bucket list, Michael makes that commitment a fun experience! I've tried a few drum teachers but I especially noticed a huge improvement in my drum skills since I started lessons with Michael. I've played songs that I wouldn't have imagined playing a year ago. He is of course very knowledgable with the drums, published his own drum lesson book, but he doesn't just go through rudiments or textbook material. He gives various resources that are useful in drumming and never makes the learning experience dull. Very professional and easy-to-approach guy, I would recommend him to anyone wanting to learn drums, especially if you're an adult wanting to try something new!"

"Matt is AWESOME. He has been a great musical role model for me since day one. The knowledge that Matt has passed down to me has completely reallocated my purpose as a musician and challenged me to question my role as a drummer in an ensemble situation. What insight! I have absolutely no doubt that I will be prepared to confidently attend college university music ensembles in the next couple of months, because of Matt's mentorship and how it has inspired me (and of course, taught me how) to achieve my best. Matt has exposed me to styles of music I didn't even know existed. His talent is beyond the capacity of any other teacher I've had, and my family and I respect him very much. Very personable, easy-going, and intelligent. Thank you Matt, for everything. :)"

"I decided to look for a drum teacher because I wanted to improve my soloing on drum set. After frustrating experiences with two other teachers, I was relieved when I started working with Garrett. His teaching environment is professional, the exercises we work through have helped me immensely, and he records many of our lessons for me to use as feedback. I look forward to my lesson with him every week."
