Students really have fun as they learn to play Piano! Not only does it make their brain smarter, but it will also improve their reading and math comprehension! Many different methods are used, using the one most effective and tailored for your student. Faber and Faber is a favorite. I also teach Suzuki Piano lessons. Students have a 30 minute private lesson once per week. Quarterly all the students get together for a group lesson. this is a fun time of playing music games, performing a special piece for each other, learning how to be an appreciative audience, coloring music notes for music theory and listening examples of the great Classical composers. We have Christmas, fall, and Valentine parties too with the group lessons. Students are able to perform at many Recitals thru the year. They can earn ribbons, medals, and trophies! We always have a Christmas Recital at the Mall of America, and a huge Recital in the Spring!

I have been playing the piano since I was five years old. My passion for music led me to steadily progress in my studies, and I naturally chose to major in music at Ohio State. To broaden my scope, I earned my degree in Composition while taking piano lessons concurrently from Professor Emeritus George Haddad and Professor Steven Glaser. Rather than focus on one area of piano music, I augmented my repertoire through extensive study of the Baroque through Modern periods. In addition, I accompanied orchestra and band instruments, a youth choir, and even performed the first movement of Shostakovich’s Second Piano Concerto with my high school’s chamber orchestra.

I am very perceptive of my students’ rate of improvement and level of engagement with the music they’re playing. If they are stuck on something, I take the time to break the music into manageable steps and to find appropriate supplemental material. I am thrilled when students are eager to learn and committed to practice; ...

I am a fully self-taught pianist...until I went to college that is. After 15 years of struggling to reach the highest levels of playing I could achieve, I have collected a few gold nuggets of secrets to make piano learning a LOT more fun and easier to understand. My approach to teaching is simple: if you're not having fun while trying to perfect your favorite song, I am not doing my job well enough. I always adapt my teaching style to fit the student's personality, mood and learning style (even on a week to week basis). I truly enjoy seeing the student SHINE and get excited about mastering a hard part in a song or playing both hands for the first time; if the student is happy and excited, I am happy and excited for them!

About Cristian

HELLO! My name is Cristian and I have a rather unusual history and background. I was originally a metal head who turned to piano playing because a lot of classical music sounded like my favorite band's guitar sections. After teaching myself from age 14 for 3 years, I was playing at a level that mos

Elizabeth did a great job making my son feel comfortable and introducing him to the basic concepts of the piano. Unfortunately, he was hesitant and not willing to participate in this lesson. My husband and I look forward to the next lesson and his willingness and enthusiasm to participate with Elizabeth.

"Love my lessons

John is an amazing teacher all around. Very professional and good at getting me to understand things which may be a bit confusing. I am currently reading and playing between four books and I never thought it would be possible especially just after taking lessons for a year. Sometimes I feel a bit frustraited when I am not able to play certain pieces or when I dont understand a concept but John is great at breaking everything down and making it easier. I am now realizing how my piano skills can be utilizied in my other music projects. When I attend my lessons I am reminded why I love having them so much. With him as my instructor I can see my skills improving and I know I will only get better. I recommend piano lessons to everyone and if you are looking to have a great teacher John is your go to person !"

"I began my piano lessons at Mr. Yakov's Music School when I was in fourth grade. Since then, I have progressed far in my piano studies. When I first started taking piano lessons, I thought it was going to be hard and tedious, and that it would take up too much of my time. However, just by practicing fifteen minutes a day, I was able to get through Piano: Primer Level (my first piano book) in a matter of months! I’m not saying that piano is easy, just that you don’t have to spend hours each day to learn how to play. Also, I feel that taking piano lessons has given me something to improve upon and work toward. I feel more motivated to learn songs that I like to play and to display my skills to my family and friends. Sometimes, I play for my family while they are eating dinner, like a mini-concert. Overall, I highly recommend taking music lessons to anyone, at any age. Music lessons have greatly improved my life as a rewarding and entertaining experience.

"I am a public school music teacher and Collin has been giving my 5 yo son piano lessons for about 6 months. I am very impressed with Collin's patience with a very active 5 yo boy. He instructs him in music "theory" as it relates to the piano, while also developing appropriate beginner skills. He gears his lessons to what my son wants to do at the time and Collin is very good at finding teachable moments.

Collin is a well-trained musician and has had instruction in music education and its theories and practices. He is very punctual and interacts with my son in a very friendly manner. I give Collin my full recommendation!"

"When I first started my lessons with Dr. Jordan, I already had some piano experience. However, it had been years since I studied and I needed to brush up on my skills before pursuing a undergrad degree in music education.

My degree requires six semesters of piano courses. Jordan and I set some objectives with the final goal being my placement into the 2nd piano class. Scheduling lessons was a very easy process as well.

Overall, Jordan is a very talented pianist and teacher His teaching method is very effective. Based on my musical background he was able to adjust our lessons to the level of instruction that was needed to meet my goal. I would highly recommend Jordan."

"Allan taught piano to my two children for over four years. He was always very kind and patient with each of them, teaching them the fundamentals first and then building on those skills with progressively more difficult pieces. The twice yearly recitals taught my children memorization skills and presentation poise. I would highly recommend Allan as a piano teacher!"
