I have played blues, hard rock, fingerpicking, folk, and jazz music on the guitar since 2006. I have played onstage in rock bands and jazz combos and received years of private instruction. I am a chronic improviser, a composer, a creative musician, and a music theory geek.

My enthusiasm for the guitar is related to its irreplaceable role in genres that are uniquely and beautifully American like blues, bluegrass, and rock 'n' roll.

I can teach you how to play the basics, how to solo, how to write a song, how to play jazz chords, how to play rock riffs, how to groove, how to fingerpick, or whatever you want to learn.

Check out my guitar lesson demo video on my profile to hear me play!

I started music when I was 5. My grandma, an amazing classical pianist, would put quarters on the backs of my hands as I played my first songs and if they didn't fall off, I could keep them. I started guitar when I was 12, and I've been teaching for 12+ years. I currently teach over 40 lessons a week through the MN School of Music and independently.

I will create a lesson experience that is personalized for you. I love working with:

-Kids (as young as 6): The most important thing for a child beginner is that music becomes a positive part their life. I have many ways to teach kids the foundations of music and guitar while having fun at the same time. I want each to kid to be successful, which means balancing fun with structured, goal-oriented lessons. Your child will set goals each lesson and leave with a clear practice plan to succeed.

Aspiring Songwriters: Songwriting is the reason I play music and teach. The songwriter's goal is to communicate their feelings, thoughts, and ...

My first lesson with Zach was great! 5 stars. He asked the right questions as to what aI am looking to do. And we quickly came up with a lesson plan that with the right amount of work in my part will get me headed in the right direction. Zach does a great job of making his students feel comfortable and good about their abilities.

I started playing acoustic guitar when I was seven years old. I have been playing and teaching mostly bluegrass, old time, Irish, blues, and swing jazz styles for many years. I have taught both privately and have also done various workshops at festivals. I have taught guitar multiple years for instance at the Gettysburg Bluegrass Festival in PA.
My students learn to have fun with music. Students can work on rhythms, melodies, improvisation, song writing, getting into and/or hanging on in a jam session, etc.

About Tara

I have a Masters in Education as well as having spent many years performing, teaching in one on one and group settings both privately and at music camps and festivals. "Awesome teacher!

Jeff is an awesome teacher! I decided to take lessons from him after hearing a friend play and finding out he took lessons from Jeff (my friend is an amazing guitarist). Not really knowing how to play guitar, at first I was a little nervous, but It was such a comfortable environment that I always looked forward to my next lesson. He has become even more a friend than a guitar teacher. He can teach you any type of music and will work with you. Without realizing it, I had progressed more than I could've imagined in a relatively short amount of time.

Even if you've never picked up a guitar, or have been playing for years, Jeff is the teacher you want."

"Great lessons, great guy

I've been taking lessons from Jason for about 8 months now, and they've been awesome. I've been playing for several years, but never took formal lessons--just checking tabs and playing along with songs. My main goal was to learn everything I missed: the basics, theory, technique... After just a lesson or two, Jason had figured out my skill level, set up relevant exercises, and began incorporating theory into what I already knew. I've seen huge improvements to my playing in such a short time, and I'm a bad student that barely practices.

What's impressed me the most is how well he incorporates the theory and exercises into actively learning songs you're interested in.. it keeps you exercising the theory while still having fun playing more than just scales. Definitely recommended for anyone wanting to dive into theory, improvisation, etc."

"Frank has taught me music for more than 20 years and now, he’s teaching two of my children. My five year old son looks forward to his jams with Frank every single week. His patience and compatibility with each of our unique personalities is uncommon. He takes time with every song and technique. I am a working musician and I still constantly learn from him and am humbled by his deep and complex knowledge of the instruments he’s teaching and his respect and appreciation for how music is made."
