I would be a good teacher for a trumpet player with 3 or less years of playing experience. I can help students with their concert band, jazz band or solo/ensemble music.

About Amy
As I child I had an early interest in music, dancing and creative things. I took piano lessons and excelled at my chosen instrument, the flute, in band at school. I continued with my music training at Northwestern College in Roseville, Minnesota and graduated with a Bachelors of Arts degree in Music Education in 1992. I worked for 11 years in my profession in various settings before I took a break to start my family. My experience includes teaching students in classroom general music, choir, band, piano lessons, and school plays/musicals. I spent six years at a private school (grades K-8), three years at a charter elementary school and 2 years at a public elementary school. Also, since graduating in 1992 I have spent a total of 18 years teaching private lessons both at Hovland Conservatory of Music and in my home. Along the way I
further broadened my background by accompanying church choirs and congregations, playing for weddings, and volunteering to lead children’s music time at church.

I love music of all kinds and have a strong belief that everyone should experience the joy and power of it in his or her life. It is very rewarding for me to help students develop their skills as they discover a meaningful way of self-expression using a universal language. Teaching music is something I love to do and I know that fact reflects to my students resulting in an enjoyable experience for them as well.

*** Lesson Details ***
What can a student/parent expect from lessons with me? I can provide my students with a solid foundation of proper technique. This is so very important because you do not ever want to have to unlearn bad habits. I also include appropriate music theory, ear training and improvising for each level. I purposefully pace the lessons to prevent students from feeling frustrated. Instead, I work to generate excitement about the learning process and keep students motivated by their own progress. Furthermore, I am willing to accommodate a student if they have a special interest in a certain musical genre or a personal goal they are working towards. I encourage, but do not require students to take advantage of recital and performance opportunities that I provide.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Large music room: piano, electric keyboard, flute, clarinet, trumpet, music stands.
*** Specialties ***
I have a lot of experience teaching students who are brand new to their instrument. I believe the beginning is a very important time to start building a solid foundation for all future musical growth. I love being able to help my students establish good habits from the beginning and influence the overall direction of a new student’s musical experience.

I love music of all kinds and have fun playing and teaching all the instruments that I listed. However, the two instruments that I have the most training on and have performed on are the piano and the flute. I would be a great teacher for private lessons to help a student excel in band at school or for a high school student preparing for contests or auditions. Also, I am very patient with beginners and would be ideal as a child'€™s first piano teacher or for an adult who has always wanted to play a certain instrument of his or her choice.

I hadn't played the trumpet in 30 years. My first lesson with Nicholas was like starting from scratch. He is very knowledgeable, polite, professional, and definitely patient. I feel that that homework Nicholas assigned was spot on. I'm playing better already after only two days. I would certainly recommend him to a friend.

Nicholas really tailored the lessons to what I needed. They weren't cookie-cutter lessons, and I appreciated that. He answered all the questions I had, and helped me understand some concepts that I never would have gotten just learning online. I definitely recommend him as a teacher.

Nicholas understood where I was in reference to me knowing nothing about the guitar and he is very knowledgeable with the music trade. He was very clear and kept things simple. My mission is to provide a positive musical experience for all students. For some this includes rigorous preparation for an audition of some kind, for others it may be an introduction to music fundamentals to foster better listening skills and greater artistic appreciation. All students will be challenged to improve their listening, timing, and technique. All students will learn to play songs that they love.

Recommendations for best results: make a three-month commitment to weekly lessons, and work up to 30 minutes of daily practice. This formula guarantees results. Bring your instrument, music books, and a binder with sheet protectors ☺

*Scheduling policy: to avoid being charged for a lesson - One week notice is required to cancel, skip, or "roll over" a lesson. 24 hours notice to reschedule (based on availability).

To continue weekly lessons, students must maintain at least 90% attendance or the time slot may be forfeited.

Good Luck!

Jordan was born and raised in the El Centro, California where he began playing the alto sax in the elementary band program. At the age of 12, he began his study of guitar and drums, performing in several rock and ska bands around his home town and San Diego. At age 14, is where he found his love for brass instruments when he took up the trombone. While in high school he became a featured soloist with the Imperial Valley College Jazz Orchestra, under the direction of the legendary trumpeter Jimmy Cannon. It was this that lead Jordan to accept the Constance Weldon Music Scholarship to attend the University of Miami in Coral Gables, FL.

While performing in South Florida Jordan appeared with major acts including 10,000 Maniacs, and appeared on the Spanish television show "Calle Ocho." He also gained invaluable experience teaching in Miami public schools. His first teaching assignment was at Hialeah-Miami Lakes Senior High School where he directed 3 beginning bands, Concert Band, Wind Ensemble, and their highly decorated Jazz Band. Later Jordan moved into the elementary setting, teaching vocal and instrumental music for grades K-5 at Cypress Elementary.

In 2007, Jordan returned to California to pursue a music career in San Diego. He can be seen performing all over San Diego, Orange, and LA Counties in styles ranging from rock, jazz, funk, blues, hip-hop, Latin, and more. He performs primarily on trombone, piano, and guitar, but is known to pick up percussion, harmonica, and other wind instruments as well. Jordan, along with the rest of the aggressively funky cover band SuperMagnetic, were the grand prize winner of the 2010 Viejas Ultimate Music Challenge 4. In 2011, Tori Roze & The Hot Mess were nominated for a San Diego Music Award in the category of "Best Blues Artist" after the release of their first album "From The Hip." They released their second album "Turbulence" last December, and are heard regularly on local San Diego radio. This album has also been nominated for Best Pop album for the 2013 San Diego Music Awards. In 2013, Jordan completed his Master of Music degree in Jazz Studies from San Diego State University.

On stage, Jordan is a talented and versatile performer. He is known for his trombone sound and improvisational ability, as well as his positive relationship with his fellow musicians. In lessons, Jordan is energetic and creative.

I aim to instill a love of music and of the instrument through both student guided song selections from popular genres and movie/video game soundtracks, as well as technical and music reading exercises designed to make my students well rounded and ready for any way they choose to pursue music.

About Nicholas
Detroit native, Nicholas C. K., demonstrated an innate musical talent from a young age. His command of piano, guitar, trumpet and bass progressed to studies at both Columbia University in Chicago and Wayne State University in Detroit. Since age 16 Nic has toured the country sharing the stage with acclaimed rock acts such as; Tesla, Bret Michaels, 3 Doors Down and many others. He is currently endorsed by Warwick Basses.

Nicholas been a musician in some form or another for as long as he can remember. His musical journey started when he was only six, with a delve into the realm of classical piano. While there he studied under world class child prodigy Josh Cullen. The composers that he studied include Bach, Beethoven, Barton, Hayden and many others.

From here he progressed to playing jazz trumpet, studying the Jamey Aebersold method un
der Paul Finkbeiner, the lead trumpet player for the Paul Keller Ensemble.

Then at the age of 11, with the help of his grandfather he discovered the guitar. He learned quickly on his old SR guitar. He quickly discovered that he had a natural taste for blues phrasing, and his soloing abilities quickly blossomed. 2 years later, he had formed his first band, Spherical. It was through this band that he found the bass.

His journey into the realm of bass, began out of necessity and progressed into love of the bottom end. Since then, he has been collecting basses, playing, living and breathing bass. He now realizes the importance of a funky beat, a subtle line and most important of all A Tight Groove!!!

The benefit of studying under someone with a vast array of both talent and experience is clear.

*** Lesson Details ***
During his musical career Nicholas has played almost every style of music; from folk to experimental from jazz to rock. One thread holds true through all music, it has to groove.
During the course of a lesson he will cover a broad range of topics starting from the basics, and moving into ear training, sight-reading, theoretical knowledge and most important for bass players, groove. Just as every player has their own musical personality and voice, so to does every lesson that Nicholas gives.
In a supportive, patient environment, every lesson is custom tailored to the student.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Home: lessons in dedicated music room with piano and stereo, guitars/basses, cables/amps

*** Specialties ***

I'm very relaxed and patient with students. I like to make the trumpet fun, but at the same time stress the fundamentals and how critical practice is in order to see improvement. I have a masters degree in education from St. Mary's University. I also took lessons from Lynn Erickson of the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra throughout college. I have a vast amount of education experience, but I don't have a great deal of lesson teaching experience, but am looking to expand my student base.

About Tim
I have been involved in music since I was very young. I learned piano at an early age and started playing the trumpet in grade 6. I don't have a music degree, but have a masters degree in education from St. Mary's University. My undergraduate degree is from Augsburg College where I played trumpet in jazz band and concert band. I also took lessons from Lynn Erickson of the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra throughout college. Currently, I am an IT Manager at the University of Minnesota. You can see that I have a long history in the education world, but I would like to focus more on teaching. I have a great deal of patience and a knack for helping kids understand the importance of fundamentals, but at the same time have enough fun to keep them interested.

Experienced teacher of 10 years, specializing in brass and beginner/intermediate jazz! I just landed in Shoreview, MN from the top-shelf music programs of Poway Unified School District in San Diego, CA. Whether you are just learning your first notes or you're ready to start jazz improvisation, let's jam!

About Dayna
I am a life-long musician, performing with my vocalist mother from age 4 and studying piano and voice for all of my childhood. However, it all changed the day my 5th grade band teacher put a tuba on my shoulder. It was a match right from the start and, from that day forward, my life has revolved around school band. I earned my Bachelor of Music Education from South Dakota State University, marching with the Pride of the Dakotas for the 2000 Independence Day parade in Washington D.C. as well as in the 2003 Tournament of Roses Parade. Upon graduation I taught in rural South Dakota schools for 4 years before packing up and moving to Los Angeles, CA to pursue a career in songwriting. While composing is still a part of what I do as a musician, I missed teaching and took a position with a prestigious middle school music program in San Diego, C
A. I taught individual lessons, small ensembles, and jazz band there for 5 years, before packing up once again and heading for the Twin Cities where, with any luck, I'll once again have a full studio of amazing students!

I continuously perform, write, and play music and I love to tailor lessons toward the goals and interests of each student. I incorporate different styles and techniques that help students at any level be a greater success!

Briefly teaching during my high school years, and now teaching privately for about 10 months, I believe my passion is in teaching music. Currently, my students range from the age of 6 to the age of 15. During my high school years, I specialized in helping and guiding special needs children.

My goal for the next 5 years is to become the best music teacher I can be, and hopefully open and run my own music school. My focus when teaching lessons is not just to teach my student their instrument of choice, but to help them understand what they're playing. Have them see why they are playing what they are playing, and teachi
ng them the ins and outs of music theory so they can expand their musical knowledge to other instruments effortlessly!

I am excited to share my passion and knowledge of music to the Tampa Bay area!

My daughter just had her first lesson with Syarra. It was her first time learning the keyboard, so she was a bit nervous. Syarra, made her feel comfortable and she really enjoyed the lesson. She left excited to learn more. Glad we found Syarra!
