I have been singing and studying voice for over 23 years since I was a child! I hold a Bachelors from Musicians Institute and other accomplished degrees from American Musical Dramatic Academy to conclude my quest for vocal excellence and the ability to sing in multiple languages ( English, Spanish, Japanese and Italian) I have been lucky enough to study with some of the top teachers in the country and now I bring the experience I have gained directly to you!

*** Lesson Details ***
I do my absolute best to create a positive atmosphere for my students. Even when the students feel frustrated or stressed, it is important to inspire them and give them the fuel that they need. Though I am strict when it comes to homework and their about their studies. Every lesson at the beginning I will review what we learned previously and test them.
then begin with proper breathing technique exercises, the cornerstone of all vocals. We move on to vocal exercises to condition the voice. Then we work on the songs that you are eager to sing!

I will use a piano when doing vocal warm ups and conditioning exercises. Students that play other instruments and accompany themselves when performing (such as a guitar) are encouraged to bring that instrument to their lessons. My goal is for them to gain the knowledge that they need to help reach their artistic goals.
With all my lessons every student will be taught a basic run down of Music Theory. My students will always progress in what they do. They will have the discipline that they need and yet have fun and be filled with inspiration. Which is the most important thing, to be Inspired to do better.

I do have a portable keyboard. Though I do expect the student to have their own recording device and karaoke tracks. At Home I do have a studio, and if the students has an iPod or an Mp3 player I can attach it to a device where all of us can hear the tracks. I do have a recording studio as well.

I specialize in Musical Theatre, and Pop rock genres. When I teach my students I always have them learn a song of another language whether it's Spanish or Japanese. It helps with diction when they learn a song outside the English Language. Also It helps them to learn another Language at the same time. Also I give them a little anatomy class when they are learning how to sing. I give them a model of the vocal Chords and different areas of the Larynx and which part works for the chest voice and the head voice.

I found Zach through 'take lessons' after my daughter had a few years with an intense classical pianist. I want my daughter to have fun and appreciate music and not feel the intense pressure she was feeling with our previous instructor. Zach was the perfect choice. My daughter loves her lessons. Zach does take time off for his professional endevors. Good for him. He has always let us know and connected with us when he returns.

A well-rounded music education is very important and I have fun and educational resources for learning vocal technique, ear training, harmony, pitch matching and music theory.

I am very fortunate to have performed and studied Classical and Opera, musical theater productions, have sang in Rock, Pop, Country, R&B
bands and can bring that real-world experience into the lesson. The student will receive real hands-on knowledge about singing in a variety of environments and how to manage his/her vocal goals!

In addition to being vocally healthy, I encourage self-expression and enhance self-esteem in my students: singers of all ages, skill levels and styles. Plus, it has to be fun, otherwise why do it? Singing is a process and less about the end goal and we train the body, mind and use imagination and it's a very exciting process!

***My students regularly receive scholarships and placement in music schools and programs around the U.S., have won competitions, do well in auditions, are performing in successful bands and/or recording artists.

My laid-back and fun approach allows for versatility and is tailored to meet the needs of the individual student. When studying the art of singing you are gaining skills, which build confidence.

When you understand what you'€™re doing and why, you bring more confidence to your performance. Progress is made with regular practice outside of lessons. Voice students record each private lesson through their devices and take notes in their own notebooks.

I have "warm-up" tracks which you can use in your car or at home and you will notice significant improvement once you start your routine.

Practicing is very important and I have great methods to teach students how to maximize their time and get the best results! I am privileged to have an opportunity to teach and very passionate about coaching a student to meet his or her musical goals!

I've been a guitar player for a while and have wanted to learn how to sing along with the guitar. Mark has done an excellent job determining where I currently am as a singer and how I can get to where I want to be as a singer. He has started with the basics and explaining to me how you can improve as a singer by making routine out of several exercises. He has done a great job not just explaining what the exercises are, but why they are beneficial to me as a vocalist. After gathering a better sense of my voice, I have started bringing my guitar to lessons and he has helped me immensely to blend my voice with my instrument. Since doing these lessons, I've had the confidence in my voice to start performing at open-mic nights in the Twin Cities and I thank Mark for that! He is wonderful!

I found Mark through TakeLessons a little over a year ago when my dad and I were looking to start learning guitar. I could not have been more pleased with how accommodating Mark was with our schedules and different skill levels. Whether its reviewing what we learned the week prior or taking on something new we are being challenged every lesson. I have been singing since I was 3, anything and everything from Michael Jackson to Elvis Presley to Luciano Pavarotti. Originally from Colorado, I studied music/theatre, as well as vocal pedagogy at The University of Colorado at Boulder, where I graduated with highest honors. I made my Broadway debut in "The Phantom of the Opera" at age 24. I also performed in "Chess in concert" as a featured rock tenor soloist at the New Amsterdam Theatre on Broadway with Josh Groban. I have understudied and performed lead roles in the first AEA National Tour of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s "Whistle Down the Wind." Regionally, I have played many lead roles all over the United States in productions including "Les Miserables," "Miss Saigon," "The Wild Party," and "She Loves Me."

As an ASCAP recording artist, currently I am working in the studio with a full production team on my first pop/rock album. I also often sing on demos for producers and write songs for other artists in many different genres.

As a TV/Film actor, most recently I was on set with Marvel's "Luke Cage" on Netflix, and I played the lead role of (Abraham) Lincoln in the digital series pilot, "These Honored Dead." I also have played lead roles in 4 SAG-AFTRA short films, as well as the comedic lead in a SAG-AFTRA Web-series pilot, "Bodega Nights." Having spent a lifetime on the stage in many roles, many capacities, I have accumulated a vast amount of knowledge pertaining to all facets of performing; be it theater, television, film. While not subscribing to one particular "method", I stress "reacting, not acting", and believability of performance. All ages and experience levels have benefited from my approach. Whether a student is an aspiring actor, or a working actor sharpening their skills or prepping for an audition, I provide a solid foundation and practical knowledge and guidance.

About Glenn
I have been active in the entertainment industry since the age of 12, when I gave my first professional performance. Prior to that I was already being introduced to music with years of guitar, and then vocal instruction. I do not remember a time of my life when I was not singing somewhere; in the house, in the yard, in the classroom. That is perhaps why I identify so well with the young people who gather so much enjoyment from "just singing" at every opportunity. I studied professionally for over 10 years with renown soprano and voice teacher Sylvia Jensen, who was instrumental in the enhancement of my vocal knowledge and technique. She is now the Director of Education for the Miss Ohio pageants of the Miss America competitions, elevating many young ladies to the national spotlight. At age 14, I auditioned for, and was added to cast of a
network television variety program, "The Gene Carroll Show", that was a television institution for over 30 years in the Midwest. I was a featured performer on that program for over 7 years, all the while perfecting the art of "playing to a camera." This experience was invaluable, and the knowledge I gathered is now included in my curriculum. I also began performing a solo act in the nightclub circuit at the age of 15, performing up and down the "north coast" from Cleveland, OH, (my home), to Erie. PA. At a very young age, I learned the difficult art of choosing musical material and pacing a show; also adapting to performing under a myriad of conditions with a vast array of musical accompaniment. After graduating college with a degree in Business Administration and Marketing, I assembled my own band, and took to the road. That experience eventually brought the act to Las Vegas in 1982. Over the years my show has been a staple in major casino cabarets in Las Vegas, and all over Nevada. Since my first engagement at The Landmark Hotel in the early 1980's, I have literally been up and down the famed Las Vegas Strip many times over. The Desert Inn, The Dunes, The Stardust, The Maxim, The Tropicana, New York New York, Mandalay Bay, MGM, Bally's, The Flamingo, The Imperial Palace, The Four Queens, The Golden Nugget, The Fremont, The Venetian, The Palazzo, and a three year engagement at The Riviera. My show is truly comprised of musical variety; classics, show tunes, jazz, rock, blues, r&b, country. Even a presentation of "Music of the Night" from Phantom of the Opera, that I perform in full costume. It is this ability to successfully deliver an extensive repertoire that I am enthusiastic about passing along to the next generation of entertainers.

I have been truly blessed in my career to have experienced so many highlights; too many to document. From winning an understudy roll in the Broadway Musical "Platinum" starring Hollywood actress Alexis Smith, to performing our National Anthem at events ranging from Major League Baseball to ESPN Boxing to receptions for major dignitaries, to recording 7 albums and a full-length video, to being asked to perform for Mr. Frank Sinatra at the Frank Sinatra Celebrity Golf Tournament, I have lived a full life on stage, learning and absorbing every bit of knowledge gathered along the way.
Now it is my desire to escalate my status as an educator to a more "one on one" experience; availing myself the opportunity to pass along that wealth of knowledge to individual students who aspire to enjoy the entertainment profession as I have, providing them with the skills needed to successfully compete. Or, should it be their choice not to pursue entertainment as a vocation, to gain a working understanding of all facets of their instrument so as to gain a better appreciation of music. Whatever the goal of the student, I feel that I am equipped to provide them with the tools needed to achieve that goal.

*** Lesson Details ***
Content of Sessions

Generally, the first 10-15 minutes of each lesson will be focused on vocal warm up and exercise. (For guitar students, we will review the previous
week's assignment). For Vocal Students, it is understood that the voice mechanism is made up of muscles, and as an athlete prepares for a sporting event, a singer must prepare to vocalize. It is at this time in our lesson when the student will develop good habits of voice maintenance, which will serve them well throughout their careers. The proper care and preservation of the vocal unit cannot be stressed enough, especially for pubescent and pre-pubescent students. Vocal chords in a developmental stage are most susceptible to damage, and because they are particularly sensitive, they must be handled with care. Our warm up regimen is designed to strengthen as well as preserve the singing voice.

I am not an advocate of getting too involved and "bogged down" in the technical aspects of singing, especially with the young students, and
especially early in our program. This is not to say that breath control, tonality, pitch, etc. are not vital to good singing, because these workings are ESSENTIAL, and their application will certainly be incorporated into our studies. Some instructors, on occasion, have a tendency to lose sight of the fact that much to do with singing happens "naturally", and too much focus on the "technical" can actually be inhibiting. This can alter a beautiful, natural tone into one that is unnatural and contrived.

I adhere to the philosophy that above all else, SINGERS WANT TO SING SONGS, and musicians-in-training want to play music. That is our focus, and all of our training is conceived with that objective in mind. All the technical knowledge and coaching serves no purpose without practical application. It is my belief that the most significant progress occurs when a vocalist is singing a song.

Nearly every element of instruction can be utilized in the performance of one song. This is why the majority of our session time will be spent "in song". For the very young student, we will concentrate our efforts with the students choices of favorite and familiar songs. The older students will undoubtedly have favorite songs, styles and artists. Special attention will be paid to the genre most enjoyed by the student, but diversity will be emphasized as well, and a variety of genres will be unpacked and explored. I believe that whatever a student's musical goals and aspirations, it is in their best interest to gain knowledge and insight in all facets of music, singing, and performance.

The most vital pre-requisite for any student is their enthusiasm. My ambition will be to harness that enthusiasm and channel it productively through stimulating instruction. Our sessions will be informative and educational, but always predicated upon "having fun with music".

I am proud to feature a curriculum that emphasizes the entertainment aspect of singing as well as the technical; created to benefit all ages and experience levels, from beginner to seasoned professional. After just weeks of my "Triple Threat Training" a student will begin to see astounding results: vocally, musically, and in the art of performance. I am excited to share my knowledge with you. My studio is equipped with a full vocal sound system with microphones that I utilize to teach the valuable art of mic technique. Young students enjoy using the mics and hearing themselves sing and perform. Since our lessons are predicated on enjoying the art of singing, this opportunity has proven invaluable. For the advanced performer, studying all aspects of amplification and what a singer should know about their stage sound is a part of our educational curriculum. My studio is furnished with the equipment that is essential to mastering that knowledge.
Since the practical aspect of my course is based on singing songs, I provide all the latest technology required to allow my students the opportunity to sing the songs of their choosing, with and without the lead vocal tracks. I feel that when students are singing their favorite songs, it offers me the greatest teaching opportunities. I make certain the every musical genre can be represented, and feel I have the knowledge and ability to guide the student is whatever their musical tastes. My studio is also equipped with piano (for vocal exercises), and guitars, which gives me opportunity to accompany my students when the musical moment is appropriate. Glenn is a fantastic instructor. I was a beginner to acting, but I've really wanted to learn more about the craft for a long time. Glenn broke down the fundamentals of reading, character development, and script analysis to help make a more believable performance. Now we're getting into blocking and developing the physical aspects of a character. I'm learning a great deal and Glenn's patience and encouragement make him the ideal instructor to learn and grow. Highly recommend!

Born in Mexico and raised in the U.S., Wi-Moto worked in regional theater as a music theater performer before moving into music composition with the Funk, Soul & Hip-Hop musical collective Community Education. Since then she has toured Western Europe with the group making television appearances on Second Channel in Germany and has been a featured artist at Tanzhaus NRW International Dance Theater in Dusseldorf, as well as CKUT FM-90.3 Radio in Canada, WFMU FM-91.1 in New York and New Jersey and Tilos Radio FM-90.3 Budapest, Hungary. Wi-Moto has gone on to work with multi-media artists to write and produce seven (7) online graphic musical webisodes, The Last Days of Kartika. She has brought the graphic musical to the stage in a live cabaret show in Budapest, Hungary. Most recently, the piece was selected for The Comic Book Theater Festiva

I am a poet and I began working with Wi-Moto as a means to empower my stage presence. Working with Wi-Moto was pure joy. She has an ease about her that just makes you comfortable with yourself when in her presence. She is very attentive and passionate about the work that she does, I truly felt like she was routing for me in each of our sessions and constantly challenging me to go deeper emotionally. I learned so much about myself and the skill of acting while working with her.

Overall, Wi-Moto was very professional, She was always ready to work when I arrived and her studio space is very open with lots of sunlight and good vibes.

TEACHING PHILOSOPHY:

It is of the utmost importance that my students are well-educated in their chosen instrument; they must know and understand music and music-making. Students who can play are a dime a dozen, but students who understand the music they are playing are often hard to find. I teach students to kno
w music thoroughly, not just to “play.” I desire my students to comprehend elements of the score, to use their bodies effectively to make good sound, and to interpret music creatively and according to historical performance practices across all genres of music. Thus, I give students a purposeful education in technique, quality literature, performance and artistry, music theory, and music history.

Although students differ in ability and development, I maintain high expectations for our students. I expect attention and respect in lessons, faithful and diligent practice, careful adherence to instructions, and an “I’ll-do-my-best” attitude. If students regularly meet these expectations, then they will excel to the level that they are able. It is my joy to help students master their music, to do the best they can, and to strive for and achieve excellence.

Lastly, I want students to enjoy and appreciate their instrument, music, and music-making; and I know as as a teacher, I am very influential in making this happen. Students develop enjoyment of music by understanding music, experiencing success in music, being exposed to good and varied genres of music, and receiving instruction from a teacher who is enthusiastic and encouraging. It is my goal to provide all of these opportunities for students, and as a result their lives will be enriched as they enjoy their instrument.

Great teacher. Much better than my theory teachers at Kennesaw State. If it wasn't for Maria I would have never gotten an A or even passed Music Theory or Aural Skills. I plan to start working with her in the fall to help me test out of Group Piano.

Our child has done so well with Ms. Maria. Lauren has just completed Level 5 of the ABRSM exams this past spring and did fantastic. This is our 5th year with Ms. Maria and we know we made the right choice by switching studios. Lauren is happy and progressing much farther than others in her previous studio. Highly recommend.

A native of North Dakota, Wes Webb is an actor, singer, writer, composer, and master teacher living in Minneapolis. Wes has held positions at Brooklyn Prospect Charter School where he taught musical theatre to middle and high school students, at New York University as a faculty writing instructor, and The University of Texas at San Antonio as a lecturer in clinical teaching. From 2005-2016, he served as Artistic Director of Youth Pride Chorus, a group that harnesses the power of the performing arts to galvanize the voices of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and straight youth as agents of change. For eight years, he worked as Education Director at National Dance Institute, an organization that brings dance classes to thousands of students in New York City schools. Wes is obviously extremely passionate about what he does. I've been through a few lessons with him so far, and am verrrry much enjoying them. He makes you feel perfectly comfortable, and in the past weeks that I've been training with him, I've been improving more quickly and steadily than I ever have before. He can tell exactly what I'm struggling with and teaches me memorable techniques to help me improve trouble spots (while helping me explore new vocal avenues I haven't really touched yet). He offers very real feedback without a hint of BS. I highly recommend him as a teacher. :)
