The first week is awesome. I had taken a class at a college for a quarter. I did very well and learned a lot. With that, John knew right where to start with me. Looking forward to getting the best sound I can. Thanks, John.

I've been teaching music for 15 years and my students have gone on to play in bands and some even went on to study music in college. Within the first few lessons, you'll be able to play a few basic rock patterns and as time goes on you'll be able to play fills while also keeping the music steady. I specialize in understanding rhythms and practicing them slowly in order to develop the physical coordination which is needed to be successful on the drum kit. Generally I will make recordings for you to play along with. This makes it easier and fun to practice. I love working with students of all ages and experience levels and I can't wait to meet you!

About Michael

Michael C. was eleven years old when he began to play the electric bass guitar. He decided to get an electric bass because it was the one instrument needed to start a band among his friends. In addition to playing the electric bass, Michael enjoyed time practicing on the guitar and piano in high sc

"My 9-year-old son, Luke, who is on the spectrum (PDD-NOS) studied with David for the better part of a year and the experience was terrific. In addition to being extremely communicative and reliable, David was kind and patient. David kept Luke focused and entertained while also inviting him to think about rhythm in ways that made sense to Luke's brain. We happily traveled from Inwood to "Downtown Brooklyn" for lessons because the level of instruction was that good and, I think, Luke's progress demonstrates that. Luke was bitten by the hockey bug, so we are taking a break from percussion right now, but I wouldn't hesitate to return to David's studio should time allow in the future."

I was new to learning music and glad I came across Brian because he is a chill guy with positive light. I felt as if I could take drums as far as I wanted with Brian as my teacher. "Kevin is a fantastic instructor!

I have been taking private lessons from Kevin for two years now as we'll as receiving instruction in Band for the last three years. Kevin not only is an incredible percussionist himself, but he has a knack for being able to convey ideas to students that they can understand. New and better approaches to teaching rhythm, personalized lesson planning to suit a student's needs, and a vast knowledge of music from years of professional experience are just a few things that Kevin brings to the table. If you're looking for a percussion instructor, I would highly recommend Kevin as your first choice!"

She made lessons relatable to each boy and never compared them to each other. Sarah has a wealth of knowledge and breadth of experience that make her an excellent choice in percussion teachers."

"My daughter and I have been taking lessons with Carmen for over four years now. Carmen has proven herself to be a outstanding teacher and wonderful person.

When we started our lessons with Carmen, my daughter was 7 years old and I was in my 40s. And we take our lessons together. Carmen has done a excellent job of meeting the challenge of having both a child and adult student. She personalizes our lessons to our interests and goals while keeping in mind our individual strengths and skills.

Our lessons initially started with the drum set. My daughter now proudly calls herself a percussionist. Our lessons with Carmen now include snare solos, marimba, vibraphone, bells, tympani, clave, agogo bells, tambourin and ganza. (We plan to start Conga soon.) Styles we study with her include classical orchestral, rock, jazz, blues and samba.

Carmen creates but a core structure for continued skill advancement while integrating this to match our interest. For example right now, my daughter and I have been focusing more on Samba rhythms. Carmen integrated a system for our drum rudiments to be incorporated into a Samba beat to maximize our practice (and fun).

Carmen goes beyond the scheduled lesson time to help her student. Between lessons Carmen will produce record tracks of her playing various pieces for us to use as a guide during our practices. She will download music for us to enrich our understanding of a genre that we are studying. And she will email or text us between lessons to follow-up on our status if we had specific difficulties in our lesson.

I would highly recommend Carmen as a percussion teacher for a child, an adult or (as in our case) both. We definitely plan to continue our lessons with her."

"Mariano was an amazing percussion and drum set teacher. His lessons were engaging and productive, and he was always able to communicate an idea or musical concept in a way that I was able to understand and connect with. After about 2 years of lessons I was accepted into the Orange County School of the Arts for percussion and I owe my success to the lessons I took with Mariano. I continued lessening throughout high school and my skill level contined to grow. What I loved about Mariano's teaching was his unique ability to take very simple exercises and make them more difficult and therefore much more beneficial. Along with stressing the importance of basic technique, he would constantly inteoduce me to new things - Afro beats, traditional grip, Latin beats, new ways to sight read, and 4 mallet marimba technique. I would highly suggest taking lessons with Mariano if you are looking for a fun, encouraging teacher who has lots of experience with a variety of percussion performance!"
