I found Zach through 'take lessons' after my daughter had a few years with an intense classical pianist. I want my daughter to have fun and appreciate music and not feel the intense pressure she was feeling with our previous instructor. Zach was the perfect choice. My daughter loves her lessons. Zach does take time off for his professional endevors. Good for him. He has always let us know and connected with us when he returns.

I've been teaching violin for 11 years and my students have gone on to play with different ensembles. Within the first few lessons, you'll be able to play simple songs by reading and by ear and as time goes on you'll be able to play more complex repertoire. I specialize in classical, style but I can teach you different kinds of styles, typically use the Suzuki repertoire but I use a variety of method and books. I have the following tools available for your lessons: violin, computer program, sound system, Tuner and Metronome . I love working with students of all ages and experience levels and I can't wait to meet you!

About Maria
With more than 30 years of teaching experience for the cello, I have taught students of all ages, throughout California and overseas. I earned a Bachelor's degree and a Master's degree in Cello Performance and am currently the Principal cellist for the Camellia Symphony, California. In addition, I am teaching all levels of cello and beginner violin lessons to my students in Folsom, Napa and Sacramento.

My professional performing experience began in Medellin, Colombia in 1985 with the Medellin Philharmonic Orchestra where I was their Soloist beginning in 1992 and later on, as First Cello, from 1998-2002.

While in Colombia, I also performed with the Antioquia Symphonic Orchestra and the Antioquia Chamber Orchestra from 1991-1999.

I left my hometown of Medellin to come to the United States where I performed with the
Texas Christian University Orchestra in Fort Worth, Texas in 2000. Returning to Medellin, I spent the next year with the Eafit Symphonic Orchestra.

Finally, I settled in Sacramento in 2003, coming here to earn my Master's Degree in Cello Performance while performing throughout the next year with the California State University, Sacramento Symphony.

In Sacramento, I have also performed with the Sacramento Metropolitan Orchestra and with several other chamber groups.

At this time, I am teaching all levels of cello and beginner violin. My students range in age from six to seventy years and enjoy learning in a relaxing environment at their own pace.

I incorporate several different teaching styles to meet each students' individual needs and abilities.

*** Specialties ***

I'm an adult with no prior music experience, however, Maria welcomed me with open arms and a great environment for learning the cello. She is very kind, extremely knowledgeable and I feel very comfortable with her. I also appreciate her music room where she teaches; it's private and allows me to concentrate without environmental/background noises since I can get easily distracted. If you are looking for a great teacher you can't go wrong with Maria!

I've been teaching violin since 2010. Professionally, I play a five string violin at the Minnesota Renaissance Festival. For beginners I like Essential Elements or String Basics method, for intermediate students Strictly Strings or All For Strings method. I supplement both levels with the Suzuki method series, as the pieces are longer and more fun. I have successfully prepared several students for auditions with the Greater Twin Cities Youth Symphonies.

About Kathleen
• A Bit About Me •
I give private lessons in piano, violin, viola, guitar, saxophone, and many more. I have been giving private lessons since 2007 to all ranges of students (beginners to advanced). Personally, I am part of a music group performing for private events and Renissance Festivals. I have been involved closely with music since I was in 4th grade and received my BA in Music Education to help others find and experience the love I have for music.

• What to Expect During a Lesson •
Rule #1 is that music should be fun! Rule #2 is that it's okay to make mistakes, as long as we try to fix them. Rule #3 is that you should always let me know if there's a piece you've always wanted to learn, even if it's too hard.

Lessons with me have three segments. We'll always start with some kind of warm-up, to get things moving. I try to keep
this to a minimum as they are generally technical and boring. Then we'll move to the pieces that were assigned last week. These are both songs from the lesson book and anything extra that you've chosen. I don't expect you to play them perfectly. We'll work through hard spots and fine tune the pieces together. Then we'll finish by looking at the pieces for next week, figuring out where the hard spots are and talking about any new concepts.

• Lesson Books I Recommend •
If you already have books, you can ignore this part. If not, you are going to want to get some! Below is a list of my favorites for each instrument, though you only need one.

Guitar:
Hal Leonard's Guitar Method
Alfred's Basic Guitar Method

Piano:

Bastien Piano Basics
Schaum Piano Course

Saxophone:

I have a big experience teaching students all levels and ages. My goal is to keep the joy of music making for each and every student, but also to make sure you learn and advance after each lesson. I would happily work with you on the music you want, combining it with the specific violin techniques you need to have in order to play the instrument well.

About Kseniya
I have been teaching violin from young children to beginner adults for 10 years. I also teach piano for beginner and intermediate levels.
I believe that the the music potential comes through discipline, self-motivation and passion. As a teacher, my goal is to get to know each of my students and create individually tailored lessons according to my student's needs and goals. I believe that a strong technical foundation is a key in music making - when a student feels comfortable playing the instrument , they find how much they are capable of doing and what a great joy is this music making process. This is why I put a strong emphasis on the technical aspects. They say "practice makes perfect", but in reality only perfect practice makes your playing perfect, in other words, my goal as a teacher, is to give my students all the right tools to
succeed, when after each lesson you feel that you improved your playing and gained new skills, even if its a small one.
Lessons are taught using a Traditional method refer to students learning to read music. Whereas the Suzuki Method students learn by ear which I (might) use for very young students age 3-5. For older students I use certain aspects of the Suzuki method but definitely incorporate basic theory and note reading as early as possible.
All students will have the opportunity and are encouraged to perform in recitals.

AVAILABILITY: The calendar here is not up-to-date and still on a summer schedule. I mostly teach M-Th (depending on my schedule Fr and Sat are possible). Lessons are scheduled on an individual basis based on my schedule and student's availability. Please send me a message what days/times you are looking for, and I'll get back to you. Thanks!

In teaching lessons, it is my great pleasure to share with students of all ages and skill levels the knowledge that I've gained over 23 years of playing. I firmly believe that anyone can learn anything at any time, given the proper tools!

In our first lesson, we will determine your musical goals and create a realistic path to achieving them. It's my job to help you along this path while keeping things fun.

To maintain focus and week-to-week continuity, I always provide lesson notes to take home. I can also provide recordings of lessons and transcriptions of pieces, if desired.

About Elias
At 5 years old I was struck by the incredible beauty of Vivaldi's music, and ever since I've been playing violin. I hold a BA from Oberlin College of Arts and Sciences, won a scholarship to the Baroque Performance Institute in 2005 and attended the BPI again in 2006. Apart from teaching, as a professional musician performing in Southern California I am well versed both in classical violin and various fiddle styles ranging from bluegrass, Celtic and old-time to rock, pop and blues. I also play viola and mandolin and write music.

Playing violin is about so much more than just classical music and scales! Although we love scales. Scales are how we show off how fast we can play. In addition to solid fundamentals of technique and musicality, I teach a broad range of styles including folk/fiddle, pop, and movie and video game scores. You'll get to learn the music that YOU want to play!

My daughter, Ada, was losing interest in her violin lessons and not making progress, so we signed her up to take lessons with Alex. This turned out to be the best decision that we could have made. Alex had excellent rapport with my daughter and was quickly finding important practice points for her to focus on. Even more important I was impressed with the multitude of solutions and exercises that Alex came up with to help my daughter get beyond her problem areas, and bad habits. On top of this, Ada was having fun, and was getting really motivated to practice. Alex’s attention to detail, excellent skill on the instrument, creativity with exercise ideas, and persistent yet friendly character were the perfect ingredients for a positive and productive music lesson experience. We would still be taking lessons with Alex if she still lived in our area for sure. (She is also an incredibly talented composer, which is a great thing for young musicians to learn about).

Below is my Biography, so you can get to know me a little bit more!

-- Zeynep Alpan Biography --

Turkish American violinist, Zeynep A, started studying the violin at the age of 5 as part of her music therapy treatment for her diagnosis of speech delay and Auditory Processing Disorder. Almost immediately after being introduced to the violin, Zeynep began to speak and following a year and a half of violin studies, she had her first solo appearance with Vivaldi’s A minor Violin Concerto, after winning the Peabody Concerto Competition.

As a soloist, chamber, and orchestral musician, Zeynep has appeared in a myriad of venues such as Carnegie Hall, Royal Albert Hall, Kennedy Center Concert Hall, Alice Tully Hall, Moscow Conservatory Great Hall, Mariinsky II Theatre, and Strathmore Hall. Future engagements include performing as a soloist with the Presidential Symphony Orchestra of Turkey during their 2019 USA Tour and recording a CD with the Turkish recording label, Lila Muzik.

Zeynep is the first prize winner in many competitions, some of which include the Juilliard Concerto Competition, the Dorothy DeLay Fellowship Competition at the Aspen Music Festival and School, the National Philharmonic Concerto Competition, and the Goldie and Feder Memorial String Competition. Community outreach and service has played an important part in Zeynep’s musical life. In 2013, Zeynep co-founded the group Sonatas Stopping Starvation. The project uses musical excellence to help develop citizens and leaders within the arts and the greater community. Their mission is to be of service as artists and citizens to organizations that work to fight hunger. Along with a school-wide food drive, they gave their first benefit concert in November 2013 at the Juilliard School. Zeynep is also a Morse Teaching Artist Fellow, a Gluck Community Service Fellow, and a Music Advancement Program Fellow.

As a Turkish American, Zeynep receives frequent invitations to perform in major music halls in Turkey. She was featured at age 9 on Turkish National Television while performing works of Kreisler and Massanet and she has worked with the violinist Cihat Askin in Cihat Askin and Friends project (CAKA) with performances including the opening gala of Istanbul Toy Museum.

Aside from music, Zeynep enjoys taking business classes at Columbia University through the Barnard-Columbia-Juilliard Exchange program, drinking tea, biking, and being an avid dog lover.

Having started on viola and eventually adding violin, I have a unique perspective on what makes a good violinist, both classical and otherwise. We'll focus on note reading, scales, sight reading, both classical and modern (pop and jazz) music. Let's have fun.

About Alvin
I am a collegiate violist, violinist, pianist, composer, recording technician and sound designer. I expect to gradate from Macalester college with a Bachelor of Arts, specifically in music (viola).

Viola/violin students can expect to improve week to week in their playing technique. Every musician has strengths and weaknesses; I teach students to both express themselves and expand their horizons through implementation of foundational techniques. I can help any student to play with poise, confidence, and expression.

I teach students that are age 7 or older and of any experience level. I have studied classical viola for 9 years, classical/fiddle violin for 8 years, and sound design/composition for 2. I teach students to read music and pursue classical excellence, to play contemporary modern music using their ear, or both depending on the g
oals and preference of the student.

My personal passion is romantic and minimalist music, but I firmly believe that great technique is essential to every style. I look forward to meeting you and helping you to become a better musician!
