Eugene H.

Stafford, TX

About Eugene

Greetings and Salutations! I want to let you know, whether you're a music student or a fellow lover of music, that you have great untapped potential for music! More so than most people would tell you, because music is a powerful, life giving, uplifting gift that comes to all those that love and enjoy it.

If you have a desire to pursue music in any shape or fashion. I congratulate you! You open to yourself a brand new world filled with fun, excitement and great opportunities.

My Philosophy:

There is great music potential waiting to be untapped in yourself. I value greatly the t
ime I spend with every student and wish them to become the very best at the instrument they wish to pursue.

There is indescribable expression to be found in music. A wide range of emotions can be conveyed along with untold stories just waiting to be opened up. I will help foster a student's ability to see music for what it really is and help them strive for whatever musician they wish to become, whether it be for personal fulfillment, just for fun and recreation, or even in the pursuit of becoming an effective classical musician.

My Education:

My mother took me took a classical concert when I was six and I sat in the front of the stringed section. After the concert I made my decision that would shape the rest of my life, I wanted to become like those musicians.

I eventually graduated from a local music school in the following years in piano and violin and immediately went to enter the Tchaikovsky Conservatory. I was among the 10 out of 40 applicants that were eventually chosen, along with being the youngest of them as well.

After four years of study, I graduated and received my Bachelor's Degree in Music. I then went on to study for another year and received my Master's Degree in Piano.

My Other Experience:

I was Church Music Director in Kiev for Living Water Church from 2002 - 2010. I directed the adult choir, directed and led church worship services, accompanied various musicians and managed all aspects of church music responsibilities, including budgeting, rehearsals, planning and library management.

I also have been a private music teacher for several years teaching adults and young students. I planned lessons with them and established their repertoire.

I am also fluent in the Russian language and have extensive computer literacy.

Notable Recitals

*** Lesson Details ***
I pay close attention to the fundamentals of music especially throughout the early lessons. These include reading notes, measuring tempo and rhythm, sight reading, hand positioning, posture, and technique.

I believe in positive reinforcement for all my students. Building a kind and friendly atmosphere is paramount for encouraging students, especially children, to continue pursuing music. Everyone I believe has hidden music potential, and I believe the key to unlocking this is through inspiration. Music is a grand adventure of excitement and discovery for everyone.

I am very kind and honest with my students and am never too strict with them, but I do require and greatly encourage regularly that they make habitual practice a vital part of their musical education. As the old saying goes, "Practice makes Perfect." There is great truth to that saying especially when learning a musical instrument.

Excellent Teacher

I am an older student and I started to learn to play the piano more than a year ago under a different teacher. I started with Eugene about 4 months ago. I was struggling with the piano previously. But after just 2 lessons with Eugene, I found myself playing confidently. Eugene explains so clearly and everything makes sense to me now. I enjoy practicing everyday now. He is excellent teacher, patient, and very professional. He is always on time.

Laura R.

Houston, TX

About Laura

I am a mezzo soprano with a bachelor and masters of music degree in vocal performance from the University of Houston. I am pursuing a career in opera while teaching private voice and piano lessons,
During my voice lessons I like to focus on developing the student's voice through a classical approach. By forming a strong foundation in healthy singing the student will be able to sing in various genres without strain to his/her voice.
In my piano lessons I use the series of method books, Piano Adventures, developed by Nancy and Randall Faber. Through these instructions the student will learn
to read music as well as establish a proficiency for playing the piano.

*** Lesson Details ***
If you take lessons from me we will have fun while working hard. I develop my lessons around what I feel the student needs on that particular day.
In a voice lesson we might spend the entire time on technique exercises to strengthen the voice. We might also work on several songs with an emphasis on interpretation.
In regards my piano lessons, I generally stick to the curriculum, but will take the time to focus on the individual needs of the student.
I expect my students to practice at least 30 minutes a day for 5 days a week. Everyone learns at a different rate, but if the student practices regularly, he/she will see progress within a few months.

*** Studio Equipment ***
I have an upright piano in my studio as well as several music books. I expect my students to bring their music as well as their assignment book to every lesson.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in a classical technique when it comes to teaching voice. I focus on proper breath support and a relaxed open larynx to produce a free, beautiful sound. I believe a classical foundation can be applied to any musical genre, with the result that you are singing in a healthy manner that will not damage your vocal chords, thus allowing for a longer singing career.

I am pretty easy going. I want you to feel comfortable and at ease, but we do need to focus and can have fun doing it. :)
I utilize various methods for each instrument, which is determined by the students learning style and ability; needs, so this can change as time goes on (not sticking to one particular publishers materials). I have done (and continue to do) extensive research into materials available for each instrument I teach, and supplement with my own, to utilize the best out there for "YOU" for the best possible progress. While ensuring an extremely well-rounded musical education, so you can progress at the best possible rate. Since each student's potential is different, each will progress differently. I have been taking flute lessons from Shannon for about six months now. I am an older beginning flute student. It has been great working with her. She places much importance on fundamentals, getting the embouchure right and developing a good tone. My progress is slow, but i feel that later i will not have to go back and unlearn things. She is also happy to let me include flute pieces i like in the lessons rather than doing only lesson books and the like.

Hsiao-Lan started teaching my 3 year old. She has incredible patience and shows the kids how much fun you can have while playing the piano. My daughter loved her and was always looking forward to her piano classes. I would highly recommend this teacher to anyone who is looking for their kids to have fun while they learn to play the piano. Unfortunately, we were not able to continue the classes but in a near future i would love for her to teach my daughter once again. Hsiao-Lan truly has a gift in teaching young children.

wonderful teacher

I asked my 10 year old son what rating I should give Dr. Wang and he said "5 stars". She is very patient and friendly when teaching my son who is a bit shy. She has chosen songs that are fun that he enjoys playing, and I never hear a complaint about going to lessons. She is helpful with all aspects of learning to play the piano, and I have noticed his playing becoming more personal rather than simply following notes.

But instead she has enjoyed each lesson and has made surprising progress. The lesson is talored to her short attention span, mixed with games and fun motivation. We have enjoyed the lessons.

She then tailors the lesson to achieve this goal by helping the student develop a good foundation through music theory, music technique, and sight singing/reading. Paula believes that no matter what style of music you want to play or sing, you should always have some basic classical training. Drawing from her personal experience, Paula strongly believes that classical training can help one be a better player or singer in any genre, whether classical, Broadway, pop or contemporary Christian music.

No matter what genre of music, no matter what age or skill level you are at let Paula help you achieved your musical goals.
