By Michael B. - Minneapolis Voice Teacher
It's been almost a year that I've lived in the Twin Cities metro area, and it's causing me to look back on the time I've spent here - good food, good people, and outstanding music. The entire Minneapolis-St. Paul area is riddled with concert venues, bars, opera houses, concert halls, colleges and universities, theaters, and clubs (need I say more?) bursting at the seams with eager performers and reasonable admission prices, sometimes even free. Whether you are taking singing lessons in Minneapolis or simply a fan of live music, going to a show, concert or performance is always a great way to kick back after a long day's work - and if you don't watch out, you could end up learning a thing or two.
In my studio, I am a huge advocate of jumping in with both ears. Going out and listening to local musicians and performers is a fun way to keep the educational process flowing. It keeps students' end goals in sight, gives them something to work toward, and also helps shape their preference for the sound/style they want to pursue. Seeing a show can often take the pressure off of individual study and can breathe some creative initiative in the mind. It is very easy to get one-dimensional with studies in private singing lessons in Minneapolis - keeping good posture, correct notes, rhythm, and a concert can be a welcome change of pace for a student. Sometimes we forget about the end result: enjoying the experience.
Inevitably, going to a show is about enjoying the experience, and supporting our colleagues and friends in the arts. It is the audience that drives the prevalent music scene in the Twin Cities as much as the performers. So as the spring and summer approach, get out there and support local music of all shapes and sizes; in addition to your enjoyment of the performance, it adds to your musical education.
I have been singing seriously since I was 13 years old & have studied with many great teachers in my time. From traditional choirs to rock bands, the voice is the most personal instrument you have (& also the most delicate). My approach is safety & comfort in addition to technique & pitch accuracy.
Singing lessons are so much fun! You choose what you want to sing. I have a large repertoire of classical pieces, theatre tunes, gospel, rock, pop, country, you name it. My goal is to help you sing what makes you happy while coaching you on good techniques to keep your instrument healthy.
Voice study is the secret to success for many contemporary vocal artists. My lessons are designed to teach you how to make your voice sound more powerful, how to use vocal technique to expand your range and expression, and how to become more confident in vocal performances. Lessons are a fantastic starting point for anyone wanting to make the most of their voice.
