Shane L.

Milwaukee, WI

My approach to teaching is welcoming and encouraging, but I also set [reasonably] high expectations for students. I believe everyone has potential to become skilled at whatever they're passionate about, but it takes diligence, patience, and practice to get there. I make sure to supplement that process with plenty of inspiration, whether that means listening to great recordings, suggesting certain live performances, or learning to play like the artists a student admires. Any meaningful learning experience is accompanied by curiosity, joy, struggles, and ultimately, fulfillment. I strive to provide my students with a balance of these elements.

About Shane

With 17 years of professional experience as a musician (multi-instrumentalist, producer, recording engineer) a bachelor's degree in English literature and education, and 10 years experience as a public school teacher, coach, lessons instructor, etc., I am a proficient educator in each of these areas. My musical focus is in the styles of folk, jazz, and classical; my theatrical focus is in Improv comedy and stage acting, and for English/language arts I specialize in literature, reading, composition and public speaking. Currently I work full time as a musician, producer, and recording engineer. When I'm not on the road, I love to fill my home life with teaching lessons or tutoring. I began studying percussion at age 6, and mostly learned jazz and classical until late high school, when I

Kirstin R.

Milwaukee, WI

I teach students from beginner to advanced the art of singing. We work through the technical concepts of breathing and truly supporting the sound. I help students develops ways to learn music independently. In addition, I help students to develop their musical skills through a wide variety of vocal repertoire from classical to folk to musical theatre selections. We also work with Alexander Technique to help for an easy, relaxed sound.

About Kirstin

*** Travel Equipment *** I can bring music books and a music stand for their music. I expect the student to have some sort of piano or keyboard that we can work with. For online lessons, I have a piano but ask that students have a camera and microphone on computer. Students must have rehearsal copies of music and may need to purchase books after a period of time. *** Specialties *** I specialize in classical voice. I can also teach in popular music and Broadway theatre styles. I have studied some Alexander Technique in my own training and seek to incorporate those teachings into lessons. Having dealt with voice issues in my own vocal training, I am comfortable working with students who may be coming off of voice trauma. I also teach other styles of music, including pop, country, and ...

Kirstin took a long time to respond to my requesting lessons (I actually had to call customer support to get her to respond). Then she rescheduled my first lesson twice, so that my first lesson would have been three weeks after signing up. I got a new teacher before that lesson. I never had a lesson with her, she might be great, I never got to find out.

Michael N.

Oak Creek, WI

We can use a few fun musical techniques to apply to your singing. Whatever YOU want to do with your singing is our goal. You want to sing pop tunes? Classical? Whatever it is, we can approach any type of music. Let's sing!

About Michael

No need to be nervous before my lessons. I have taught lessons to ages 6 to students in their 70's! My lessons have a comfortable atmosphere where students can be okay learning with mistakes; through trial and error. I always keep a light mood with quick bits of humor. I teach in a relaxing way, but at the same time you may expect to leave with new musical knowledge every lesson. I enjoy showing the connections between music and other areas of study and life. I always finds ways to work a student's personal interests into lessons. I always strive to help students learn how to practice in an efficient and organized way. I am a published composer and active performer/teacher/conductor with a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education and a Master's Degree in Conducting!

Michael is the best instructor! He has such patience and works with my son so well. Even though we have only had a few lessons Michael is able to tailor the lessons to fit my son. He is encouraging, prompt, and very personable. We are excited to continue lessons to improve my son's skills!

Michael is great with my kids. He is teaching my youngest daughter, age 11, the drums and my oldest, age 13, the guitar. We are able to all come together and he takes them one at a time. He is very encouraging to the girls, even when they mess up he has something positive to say to show them the correct way of doing it. In just 3 lessons I can see improvements and they are both very excited when we get home to show dad what they learned.

About Paul

***My goal as a teacher*** I try to teach what the students are interested in and make it fun and interesting so that they learn the lessons and their favorite songs. Every student is different and needs to be taught in a way that makes learning easy and fun for them. I have a passion for all people and all ages and am blessed to be able to teach from the very young, (ages 2-5 Kindermusik lessons) to teens and adults.....all the way to senior citizens. I've had many older students all the way up to a 93 year old gentleman who is taking singing lessons and asked me to put music to his lyrics. We have recorded over 50 songs together. ***Background*** I started playing trumpet in 5th grade and knew that music was for me. I also liked playing with drums and piano also ...

Good teacher and knows his stuff, but is too talkative and condescending. Lessons were interrupted by lectures to me on "life" and got off topic for several minutes (before I knew it the lessons were done because the lectures cut into our practice time). No real structure or lesson plan, just told me "the student is the boss and you decide where the lesson goes." Most teachers have a plan, structure, or goal for the student, at least by the 2nd lesson but not in this case. Also charged me for a cheap binder with music notes in it when I was done with the 1st lesson (which i would think is included in the price) and said it was optional, when in reality, I needed it to practice. If his lessons had more direction and he was more friendly, he would be a great teacher, but he was not for me.

Paul is a very patient and persevering teacher, he is particularly adept with the reluctant or difficult child, he never stops being encouraging and is dedicated to instilling knowledge to the child. I've had a very good experience with Paul at Abbey music and feel my child has gained some valuable musical knowledge at a young age which will become increasingly useful as time goes by.

I would highly recommend this artist, musician, composer, teacher. His personality works well with all ages, backgrounds, enthnicities, cultures, etc.
Thank you, Paul, for taking me on the journey.

Paul is the go to. He's dynamic, writes, instructs on many instruments, takes his gift and gives you the tools to explore this fantastic journey we all love.

I always come away with a new concept, theory, vocabulary, and to do lists that will take me to the next level.
