Shane L. Milwaukee, WI

My approach to teaching is welcoming and encouraging, but I also set [reasonably] high expectations for students. I believe everyone has potential to become skilled at whatever they're passionate about, but it takes diligence, patience, and practice to get there. I make sure to supplement that process with plenty of inspiration, whether that means listening to great recordings, suggesting certain live performances, or learning to play like the artists a student admires. Any meaningful learning experience is accompanied by curiosity, joy, struggles, and ultimately, fulfillment. I strive to provide my students with a balance of these elements.

About Shane

With 17 years of professional experience as a musician (multi-instrumentalist, producer, recording engineer) a bachelor's degree in English literature and education, and 10 years experience as a public school teacher, coach, lessons instructor, etc., I am a proficient educator in each of these areas. My musical focus is in the styles of folk, jazz, and classical; my theatrical focus is in Improv comedy and stage acting, and for English/language arts I specialize in literature, reading, composition and public speaking. Currently I work full time as a musician, producer, and recording engineer. When I'm not on the road, I love to fill my home life with teaching lessons or tutoring. I began studying percussion at age 6, and mostly learned jazz and classical until late high school, when I

Kirstin R. Milwaukee, WI

I teach students from beginner to advanced the art of singing. We work through the technical concepts of breathing and truly supporting the sound. I help students develops ways to learn music independently. In addition, I help students to develop their musical skills through a wide variety of vocal repertoire from classical to folk to musical theatre selections. We also work with Alexander Technique to help for an easy, relaxed sound.

About Kirstin

*** Travel Equipment *** I can bring music books and a music stand for their music. I expect the student to have some sort of piano or keyboard that we can work with. For online lessons, I have a piano but ask that students have a camera and microphone on computer. Students must have rehearsal copies of music and may need to purchase books after a period of time. *** Specialties *** I specialize in classical voice. I can also teach in popular music and Broadway theatre styles. I have studied some Alexander Technique in my own training and seek to incorporate those teachings into lessons. Having dealt with voice issues in my own vocal training, I am comfortable working with students who may be coming off of voice trauma. I also teach other styles of music, including pop, country, and ...

Kirstin took a long time to respond to my requesting lessons (I actually had to call customer support to get her to respond). Then she rescheduled my first lesson twice, so that my first lesson would have been three weeks after signing up. I got a new teacher before that lesson. I never had a lesson with her, she might be great, I never got to find out.

Michael N. Oak Creek, WI

We can use a few fun musical techniques to apply to your singing. Whatever YOU want to do with your singing is our goal. You want to sing pop tunes? Classical? Whatever it is, we can approach any type of music. Let's sing!

About Michael

No need to be nervous before my lessons. I have taught lessons to ages 6 to students in their 70's! My lessons have a comfortable atmosphere where students can be okay learning with mistakes; through trial and error. I always keep a light mood with quick bits of humor. I teach in a relaxing way, but at the same time you may expect to leave with new musical knowledge every lesson. I enjoy showing the connections between music and other areas of study and life. I always finds ways to work a student's personal interests into lessons. I always strive to help students learn how to practice in an efficient and organized way. I am a published composer and active performer/teacher/conductor with a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education and a Master's Degree in Conducting!

Michael is great with my kids. He is teaching my youngest daughter, age 11, the drums and my oldest, age 13, the guitar. We are able to all come together and he takes them one at a time. He is very encouraging to the girls, even when they mess up he has something positive to say to show them the correct way of doing it. In just 3 lessons I can see improvements and they are both very excited when we get home to show dad what they learned.

Mike was very cordial from the first email, and contacted me not long after I had scheduled lessons for the next week. He was very eager to begin teaching, as well as proactive in his communications with me.

As we began, we quickly discovered what areas of music theory that I needed help in. While I did not have a microphone, he was able to explain enlightening concepts to me while being open for questions at any time. He also drew helpful diagrams on a whiteboard as he taught, which granted more clarity.

Afterwards, I received an email with material that I could use to study, and he gave suggestions as to what to apply my knowledge to.

Mike is definitely worth looking into if you want a relaxed, informative and experienced teacher for such a great price.

I have been taking classical guitar lessons with Sara for almost a year now, and I can honestly say she is by far the most talented, positive, patient teacher I have ever had! And being a teacher of 26 years myself, that is quite a compliment to her. I will be taking lessons with Sara as long as I possibly can! Thanks for sharing your talent and passion with me. You are simply the best!

Sara has the ability to push you to be your best with positive reinforcement. My daughter Isaly is only 11 and has some talent to sing however Sara is teaching her control, breathing and opening her up to other genres of music. It is very refreshing to have such a talented vocal coach teach in a modern way. Thank you!

Paul is a wonderful instructor! My daughter has been taking singing lessons with him for a couple of months now. She was very nervous and shy at first, but he has really brought her out of her shell and is making her much more confident! He has wonderful ideas and techniques that are not only helping her improve, but really encouraging her. She loves her lessons and looks forward to them every week! I will be taking my 3 yr. old son in for kindermusik lessons in the future!!

I am a long time student having first started guitar lessons in my late thirties. Thanks to Paul’s patience and expertise, I quickly evolved as a guitar player and all around musician. He has a great studio with a full variety of instruments so it's very convenient to not have to bring one's own instrument if one prefers not to. The studio also has a quality recording system , and I've created numerous professional sounding recordings of my guitar playing as well. Today I enjoy playing bass and guitar in a string band and continue to expand my musical horizons with Paul. I think he is an excellent instructor and I highly recommend him for beginners or intermediate musicians of all ages.

When I decided to take guitar lessons I was a little nervous. I thought that it would be hard for me to learn since I'm no longer a child. What I was thinking was that you can't teach old dogs new tricks, not that I'm an old dog. I decided to do it anyway. Paul made everything easy to learn and I did learn new tricks so to speak. He definitely a good teacher for young and old alike.

6 Things to Remember for Singing the Blues
Love to sing the blues? There a few things to keep in mind as you sing in this genre -- find out in this guest post by St. Augustine, FL teacher Heather L...   The history of blues music is rich and bittersweet. Learning to read music can be a daunting task for beginner singers! Here, Ann Arbor, MI voice teacher Elaina R. shows you how to get started...   Not to point out the obvious, but as singers, we don’t have keys on our instrument.
