My approach to teaching is welcoming and encouraging, but I also set [reasonably] high expectations for students. I believe everyone has potential to become skilled at whatever they're passionate about, but it takes diligence, patience, and practice to get there. I make sure to supplement that process with plenty of inspiration, whether that means listening to great recordings, suggesting certain live performances, or learning to play like the artists a student admires. Any meaningful learning experience is accompanied by curiosity, joy, struggles, and ultimately, fulfillment. I strive to provide my students with a balance of these elements.
With 17 years of professional experience as a musician (multi-instrumentalist, producer, recording engineer) a bachelor's degree in English literature and education, and 10 years experience as a public school teacher, coach, lessons instructor, etc., I am a proficient educator in each of these areas. My musical focus is in the styles of folk, jazz, and classical; my theatrical focus is in Improv comedy and stage acting, and for English/language arts I specialize in literature, reading, composition and public speaking. Currently I work full time as a musician, producer, and recording engineer. When I'm not on the road, I love to fill my home life with teaching lessons or tutoring. I began studying percussion at age 6, and mostly learned jazz and classical until late high school, when I
Yup, I play, teach, record, and compose for drums.
No need to be nervous before my lessons. I have taught lessons to ages 6 to students in their 70's! (look up my website for your own personal background check!) My lessons have a comfortable atmosphere where students can be okay with learning with mistakes; through trial and error. I always keep a light mood with quick bits of humor. I teach in a relaxing way, but at the same time you may expect to leave with new musical knowledge every lesson. I enjoy showing the connections between music and other areas of study and life. I always finds ways to work a student's personal interests into lessons. I always strive to help students learn how to practice in an efficient and organized way. I am a published composer and active performer/teacher/conductor with a Bachelor's Degree in Music
I work with a wide variety of students from ages 4 through adult. I specialize in beginners.

I teach the ins and out of drumming up to a professional level
I graduated with a BA in jazz studies from Columbia in 2007 and have been teaching since 2005. I have played in many different projects, covering many styles including Rock, Jazz, Latin, Hip hop, classical, orchestral, and country. So, I have a strong understanding on the specifics of each of these styles, and a big part of my lesson plan is to teach my students to be as versatile as possible. Hence they have many options as far as playing music. I also play a wide variety of instruments including Piano, Latin Percussion, Mallets, Drum set, Guitar, and bass, so if at any point a student has an interest in trying something different t they have many options. *** Lesson Details *** Gabriel has been drumming professionally for nearly a decade, and teaching for seven years. I have a passion for all people and all ages and am blessed to be able to teach from the very young, (ages 2-5 Kindermusik lessons) to teens and adults.....all the way to senior citizens. I've had many older students all the way up to a 93 year old gentleman who is taking singing lessons and asked me to put music to his lyrics.
