I can teach you the basics of congas, bongoes and timbales. How to play with the Clave and how to incorporate the tambourine, shakers and other fun instruments.

About Edgar

Hi there! My name is Edgar V., I'm from Bogota, Colombia but I now reside in Miami, FL. I have an Associates Degree in Music Business, Creative Performance from Miami Dade College. I'm focused, patient, enthusiastic and very active! "Schedule a lesson with me now and start either speaking in Spanish or playing drums from day 1!."

**For Drum students***

My passion is playing drums and percussion. I've been playing drums for 14 years now. First I studied drums in Colombia with Shakira's former drummer Italo Lamboglia for 4 years and then when I moved here in US, I've kept refining my craf
t taking drum lessons at Miami Dade College, learning new techniques and so on.

I'm currently an independent drummer. I play with many artists and bands as a freelancer, So I get to perform very often live in different venues all over South Florida. I also freelance at different T.V. Networks as a background drummer and percussionist for artists promoting their songs on TV shows. I have won drum contests and competitions on stores and online as well. I have recorded various records and singles with major producers and performed in different countries as a hired drummer.

I've been sharing my knowledge in drums with others since I first started playing drums! I’m a believer that the more you share, the more you learn, and overtime I've realized that the process never stops. At first I was a drum instructor at a local church in Colombia. I had 10 – 20 students in a single classroom -- It was a great experience! Then when I came to the U.S. I've been mainly instructing privately, so I have plenty of experience.

Schedule a lesson with me now and start learning the art of playing drums. I am looking forward to meeting new and eager students who really want to bring their inner music out to share with the rest of us and develop their skills to the peak of their abilities. After all, you might be the next music prodigy, but perhaps you don’t know it yet! See you soon!

From Mark and Diane after their 3 day Intensive with me...they came from Seattle,WA..where they had also taken some lessons with is what they said abut their experience with me.

Hey Johnny,

Want to Thank you and Maggie for your hospitality and good cheer while Diane and I were visiting. This was truly a great experience for us. Trying to remember all the individual details we learned and very glad we recorded everything. You certainly did take us to the next level and over the next several months we will review and improve. The metronome will now be standard in our practice for quite a while as well as working for speed. You showed us many fun rhythms but more importantly you taught us a clear path for development which is what we have been missing.

Be in touch in the future and already starting to think about an early winter return for another 3 day intensive--but for the time being we are finally on path. Just playing a bit over the weekend we were so much more focused and also very realistic about our renewed dedication.

Thanks, Mark & Diane

Recent testimonial from ongoing pupil Charles B.

I’ve been studying the conga drum with JC for just over two years and I just want to give my total thumbs-up to his approach as a teacher and percussion professional. As a Brit with musical tastes ranging from rock, funk, jazz, hip-hop (and latin music!), I came to JC professing a slightly uncertain attraction to conga drums. Without a well-defined notion of what I really wanted to learn, JC took me through the basic strokes, rhythms and rudiments, developing my knowledge and skills in Afro-Cuban music and much else besides. JC’s experience in the music biz is obviously amazing and one of the best things about learning from him (aside from the great stories) are the unique rhythms and styles he’s acquired (and invented) over the years, from hanging and playing in so many “scenes“. So if you want a proper idea of how to play alongside funk, disco and other r n b styles, this is your guy. Needless to say, he’ll also makes sure you know the essentials behind the instrument, most importantly its deep roots in African music and traditions, and its obvious dominance in Afro-Cuban music. Not only that, JC is a very attentive teacher and is well up on things like “cognitive discovery”, which emphasises learning through hearing and hands as much as through more logical processes. Learning through Skype is also a lot easier and effective than it sounds. It’s been a great experience, revealing the full potential of the instrument to me and motivating me to keep up practice and lessons

From your very first lesson, I will work with you to determine what specific goals you have so we can custom fit the methods, materials and keys to fulfilling them together. I have the patience and the enthusiasm to get you motivated if you bring the commitment.
My studio is in a safe, family-friendly home & smoke-free environment and sessions will be comfortable, yet challenging.

Knowing from experience how "boring" it can be to learn solely from books, I combine technical work with fun time playing duets together, improvising, and exploring a wide variety of styles and genres of music.
Students will learn all the basics of drumming, and also spend time developing strong ensemble skills and strong background knowledge of style and repertoire.
I make a special effort to invest in each student’s particular needs, utilizing a variety of tools such as supplemental workbooks, ear training, sight reading, note spelling, etc. as necessary. Each lesson will conclude with an assignments to work on throughout the week.Music theory sheets and technique exercises will also be included in the assignments.

I do strive for excellence and believe every student should work to be the best they can possibly be, while having fun doing so!

I've been teaching Music for 5 plus years and my students have gone on to accomplish great things. My goal and challenge for every student is to teach them how to play, read and listen to music. This will enable them the ability to play any song and any style of music. I specialize in Jazz, R&B and Classical. Typically I learn my students leaning habits whether its hands on or visual and their attention span, so I can't effectively teach my students. Can't wait to meet you!

About Charles

I have acquired over five years of teaching experience, travel from ages 5 to 17 acting and playing music. In addition I am a full-time music teacher and spend my free time volunteering at a local high school teaching music. I love music and teaching, it is amazing to see the look on a student face when they learn something new and even better when they perform and stun the audience the joy that my students get makes me happy its confirmation of a job well done.
